    Tour Guiding Conversations: What Can We Learn From Them?

    This research presents conversations between guides and tourists during guiding tours. The data were taken from a larger research on tasks in tour guiding, collected from observations of several tours. The conversations were discussed in terms of how the guide and the tourist developed the topics of the conversations. This paper also analyses problems in the conversations using the framework from Varonis and Gass (1985). They suggest that problems in communication can be identified by looking at the ‘trigger\u27 and the ‘indicator\u27 of problems in conversations. The analysis of the conversations indicated that the guide and the tourist in their conversations were actively engaged in the topic. They gave opinions, contributed to the conversations, and provided information to the topic. The analysis also indicated that there were four types of indicators of communication problems: (1) explicit questions, (2) clarification requests, (3) confirmation checks, and (4) rephrasing

    The communication providers compete in offering the mobile phone cards to satisfy the customers. They are giving many facilities and the best services for the customers. Many providers offer the products with their advantages. It changes the customer’s tendency for choosing the mobile phone cards. According this reason, this research will apply the factor analysis method for determining the factors that influence customer’s choice for mobile phone cards. The data used in this research are the customer's score to the mobile phone cards in Surakarta. The customers are the 15-65 years-old of the people in Surakarta city chosen by simple random sampling. The result of the research shows that there are six factors that prioritized by the customers in choosing the mobile phone cards.     HUBUNGAN KEPADATAN JENTIK DENGAN KEJADIAN DEMAM BERDARAH DENGUE (DBD) DI KELURAHAN SENDANGMULYO KOTA SEMARANG MELALUI PENDEKATAN ANALISIS SPASIAL

    Kelurahan Sendangmulyo Kota Semarang merupakan kelurahan dengan insiden DBD tertinggi. Pada tahun 2010, jumlah penderita DBD di Kelurahan Sendangmulyo sebanyak 341 kasus dengan insiden sebesar 1.152,96/100.000 penduduk. Salah satu faktor risiko terjadinya DBD adalah kepadatan vektor yang tinggi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan kepadatan jentik (House Index, Container Index, dan Breteau Index) dengan kejadian DBD di Kelurahan Sendangmulyo melalui pendekatan analisis spasial. Jenis penelitian ini adalah survei yang bersifat analitik menggunakan rancangan studi korelasi ekologi dengan pendekatan spasial. Sampel penelitian ini berjumlah 435 rumah. Survei jentik dilakukan dengan cara visual. Titik koordinat kasus DBD yang ditemukan sebanyak 327 kasus. Analisis statistik dilakukan dengan korelasi Pearson-Product Momen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai HI sebesar 33,79%, CI sebesar 15,77%, dan BI sebesar 57,93%. Selain itu, kasus DBD terdistribusi secara merata di wilayah Kelurahan Sendangmulyo. Uji statistik menunjukkan bahwa tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara H (p=0,227), CI (p=0,573), dan BI (p=0,535) dengan kasus DBD. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah indeks kepadatan jentik tidak memiliki hubungan yang bermakna dengan kejadian DBD di Kelurahan Sendangmulyo. Kata Kunci: Kepadatan jentik, DBD, analisis spasia

    THE EFFECT OF USING GOSSIPS GAME ON STUDENTS’ LISTENING COMPREHENSION AT MA DARUL HIKMAH PEKANBARU

    Based on the researcher’s preliminary observation and information from the English teacher at MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru, it was found that some of the first year students had problems in listening comprehension, especially on descriptive text. They could not reach the minimum standard of score. In this case, the researcher was interested in conducting a research entitled the effect of using Gossips Game on students’ listening comprehension at MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru. This research had two variables that were Using Gossips Game as an independent variable and listening comprehension as a dependent variable. The main focus of this research was to find out whether there was a significant effect before and after being taught by using Gossips Game on students’ listening comprehension on descriptive text at MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru. The researcher formulated the problems that would be answered by using the quantitative research. The type of research was pre-experimental research, with one group pretest and posttest design. The subject of this research was the tenth grade students at MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru. The researcher took one class, that was experimental class. There were 25 students as sample from 166 students of population after doing clustering sample randomly. In collecting the data, the researcher used multiple choices test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Paired Samples t-test formula by using SPSS version 17. Based on the analysis of data, the result showed that there was significant effect on students’ listening comprehension before being taught by using Gossips Game and students’ listening comprehension after being taught by using Gossips Game. It was proved by finding to (10.122) was higher than T-table, whether in level significant of 5% and 1% 2.0642.797. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means that there was significant effect of using Gossips Game on students’ listening comprehension at MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru. Therefore, it could be concluded that students’ listening comprehension on descriptive text after being taught by using Gossips Game was better than students’ listening comprehension on descriptive text before being taught by using Gossips Game

Penelitian ini bertjuan (1) untuk mengetahui bagaimana upaya guru dalam mengatasi perilaku siswa yang melanggar tata tertib sekolah di MAN 3 Banda Aceh dan (2) untuk mengetahui bagaiman upaya guru dalam mencegah perilaku siswa yang melanggar tata tertib sekolah di MAN 3 Banda Aceh. Metode yang digunakan dalam menelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif,Data penelitian ini bersumber dari informan dan dokumen.Pengumpulan data yang dilakukan melalui wawancara langsung dengan para informan. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah guru yang ada di MAN 3 Banda Aceh sebanyak 20 orang yang terdiri dari guru di bidang kesiswaan, guru bimbingan konseling dan guru yang mengajar di MAN 3 Banda Aceh. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan sebagai berikut. Upaya dalam mengatasi perilaku siswa yang melanggar tata tertib disekolah adalah tidak langsung memberi hukuman kepada siswa tetapi memberi peringatan kepada siswa apabila siwa melanggar tata tertib lebih dari dua kali maka akan dilaporkan ke wali kelas dan bimpen. Faktor yang mempengaruhi siswa melakukan pelanggaran tata tertib yaitu faktor dari siswa itu sendiri karena tidak ada motivasi dari siswa untuk belajar, faktor keluarga dimana keluarga kurang perhatian dirumah sehingga siswa mencari perhatian disekolah, faktor lingkungan dimana siswa mengikuti perilaku teman yang melanggar tata tertib.Upaya dalam mencegah perilaku siswa yang melanggar tata tertib dengan cara Ditahun pertama masuk sekolah antara siswa dan guru sudah ada perjanjian yang ditanda tangani oleh orang tua. hendaknya guru MAN 3 Banda Aceh lebih berperan aktif dalam mengatasi perilaku siswa yang melakukan pelanggaran tata tertib sekolah dan harapannya guru di MAN 3 Banda Aceh lebih tegas lagi dalam memberi sanski kepada siswa yang melakukan pelanggaran tata tertib

    Background : Fluphenazine decanoate is an anti psychotic group prescribed for typical schizophrenic for the long time usage. It can increased oxidative stress. Catalase is an enzyme that can be used as a marker for oxidative stress, can be seen from histopathology hepar cells ranged from mild damage to cell death. The research seeking damage of histopathology hepar cells and the enzyme catalase after induced by fluphenazine decanoate. Aims : To know the damage of histopathology hepar and enzyme catalase levels of wistar rat induced by fluphenazine decanoate. Methods : This experimental research used post test only control group design. 15 of male wistar rats divided randomly into 3 group, namely the control group (K) which is given with the standard diet and the injection of sesame oil, and the group treatment I (P1) is given with fluphenazine decanoate 1 mg/kgBB, whereas the group treatment II (P2) is given with fluphenazine decanoate 2 mg/kgBB. In the day of 28, rats were terminated and the hepar were taken to be made extracts for the measurement of levels of catalase and to be made histopathological slides. Results : The highest level of catalase with percentage of 62.5 and the worst histophatology damage with histopathology score of 2.5 found in the group with induced by 2 mg/kgBB dose of fluphenazine decanoate. There is a difference of the levels of catalase between control group and PI group eventhough not significantly, while the other groups showed a significant relationships. Conclusion : There is the damage of histopathology hepar on hepatic cell (as seen on hystopathological slides) and the increased levels of the enzyme catalase on wistar rats induced by 2 mg dose of fluphenazine decanoate.     THE EVALUATION OF PROMOTION STRATEGY OF MUSEUM BALI

    The aim of this study was to evaluate of the promotion strategy of Museum Bali Puputan Badung, Denpasar, Bali, in order to increase the quantity of the visitors. The phenomenon of this study was lack of promotion which caused the quantity of the visitors have not reached the target yet. The promotion strategies used five variables of marketing mix such as advertising, personal selling, sales promotion, public relation and direct marketing.This is a qualitative descriptive study using the purposive technique and snowball sampling by interviewing personnels at Museum Bali. The data was analyzed using the SWOT analysis by crating promotion mix strategy formulation.  The result of this study from the plan of the matrix combination quantitative strategy showed that Museum Bali needed to utilize the SO strategy that has the highest score was 6.34, the ST strategy was 5.65, the WO strategy was 2.49 and the WT strategy 1.80, with the effective formulation strategy was SO. It showed that attractiveness of the Museum Bali has strengths and opportunities so that can be utilized the existing of the opportunities. The strategy should be applied in this condition is to support the growth of the aggressive policy (growth oriented strategy)

    Task-based Approach to Teaching English for Tour Guiding Students in EFL Context

    This paper describes a task-based approach to teaching English using an authentic material obtained from a guided tour. It begins with a brief discussion on forms-focused instruction, then follows a discussion on meaning focused and form-focused instruction. This paper also cites theoretical framework and research to justify the implementation of task-based language teaching. It argues that task-based language teaching needs to be modified to accommodate the needs of teaching the language in EFL contexts.
