Towards entrepreneurial universities : barriers, facilitators, and best practices in Bulgarian and Portuguese universities

Purpose: Тhe main objective of this research is to investigate barriers, facilitators and best practices in the transformation of Bulgarian and Portuguese universities into entrepreneurial universities. Design/Methodology/Approach: This study relies on a survey among experts in the field to identify barriers, facilitators and best practices in the transformation of Bulgarian and Portuguese universities into entrepreneurial universities. Findings: The research findings demonstrate that there are both internal and external barriers and facilitators of the entrepreneurial transformation of universities in Bulgaria and Portugal and reveals the relative importance of the various internal and external factors. The study describes several best practices in the transformation towards an entrepreneurial university adopted at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and ISCTE-IUL. Practical Implications: This research raises awareness of the internal challenges to making Bulgarian and Portuguese universities more entrepreneurial as well as of factors that may facilitate the process of transformation and the need to strengthen entrepreneurship ecosystem at these universities. Policy makers should devote special attention to external barriers to the transformation and especially to the need for more appropriate legal framework and more state funding. SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FEMALE AND MALE ENTREPRENEURS IN A TRANSITION CONTEXT: EVIDENCE FROM BULGARIA

The aim of this paper is to examine similarities and differences between Bulgarian female and male entrepreneurs with regard to a number of personal characteristics, characteristics of their ventures, and characteristics of the environmental context, in which they operate. A sample of 501 companies (282 maleowned and 219 female-owned) with a single owner is used in the present study. Data have been analyzed using a binary logistic regression. The differences in entrepreneurship identified in this paper are strikingly similar to those reported in the literature in Western countries. Methods for engineering symbolic human behaviour models for activity recognition

This work investigates the ability of symbolic models to encode context information that is later used for generating probabilistic models for activity recognition. The contributions of the work are as follows: it shows that it is possible to successfully use symbolic models for activity recognition; it provides a modelling toolkit that contains patterns for reducing the model complexity; it proposes a structured development process for building and evaluating computational causal behaviour models

The Effect of Inter-institutional Rules on the Division of Power in the European Parliament: Allocation of Consultation versus Codecision Reports

Studies on the internal organization of the European Parliament (EP) have largely overlooked the impact of its inter-institutional context. Addressing the gap, this paper examines how the different inter-institutional balance of power under the consultation and codecision legislative procedures affects the intra-parliamentary allocation of consultation and codecision reports. The analysis of reports allocated during 2004-2007 shows that the higher competition for codecision reports left unchecked by the informal rules of report allocation has produced clear winners and losers. Disloyal party group members are ‘punished’ by group coordinators in the allocation of any reports. Furthermore, members of the centre-right party group coalition are privileged in the allocation of codecision reports, while legislators with outlying special interests and experts are given systematic access only to drafting consultation reports. Thus, the main mechanisms driving report allocation appear to be promoting party group cohesion and majority formation

Full-mouth rehabilitation—laboratory procedures

To generate highly aesthetic results, as well as the most precise interaction between gums, bones, muscles, and teeth, full-mouth rehabilitation and complete arch reconstruction need the use of very specific lab protocols and techniques. Confirmation of tolerance to changes in the vertical dimension occlusion (VDO) is of paramount importance. A diagnostic wax-up and articulated study castings can give information for the assessment of treatment alternatives. The intermediate interval may be altered in accordance with the patient’s circumstances and ability for adaptation. This article aims at providing a literary review of the treatment planning of full-mouth rehabilitation that will assist clinicians in the therapeutic plan. Observing the final result before starting therapy is essential for long-term success.
