Finally, the third paper models and explains the dynamics of market betas for 30 US industry portfolios between 1970 and 2009. We use a DCC-MIDAS and kernel regression technique as alternatives to the standard ex-post measures. In this paper, we find betas to exhibit substantial persistence, time variation, ranking variability, and heterogeneity in their business cycle exposure. While we find only a limited amount of structural breaks in the betas of individual industries, we do identify a common structural break in March 1998. Finally, we find the cross-sectional dispersion in industry betas to be countercyclical and negatively related to future market returns.

Another Look to the Price-Dividend Ratio: A Markov-Switching Approach

This paper analyzes the stationarity of this ratio in the context of a Markov-switching model à la Hamilton (1989) where an asymmetric speed of adjustment is introduced. This particular specification robustly supports a nonlinear reversion process and identifies two relevant episodes: the post-war period from the mid-50’s to the mid-70’s and the so called “90’s boom†period. A three-regime Markov-switching model displays the best regime identification and reveals that only the first part of the 90’s boom (1985-1995) and the post-war period are near-nonstationary states. Interestingly, the last part of the 90’s boom (1996-2000), characterized by a growing price-dividend ratio, is entirely attributed to a regime featuring a highly reverting process.Markov regime-switching, price-dividend ratio stationarity

Microbiología predictiva: una ciencia en auge

En las últimas dos décadas, para el estudio de la microbiología de alimentos, se han incluido como herramientas de análisis, el uso  de la matemática y la estadística; tales conocimientos se combinan para desarrollar modelos matemáticos que describan la evolución de los microorganismos en los alimentos [1]. Para los modelos predictivos hay una gran variedad de estudios aplicados en diferentes matrices e industrias alimenticias [2-4]; estos buscan determinar a priori las condiciones de proceso (pH, la temperatura, la actividad de agua, el tiempo de agitación, entre otros), en las cuales hay activación, desactivación, crecimiento o muerte de los microorganismos que pueden ser perjudiciales tanto para el ser humano como para las propiedades organolépticas y nutricionales de un alimento [5, 6], de esta manera establecer puntos de control que eviten tales resultados [7, 8]. Los modelos matemáticos incluyen ecuaciones de diversos tipos como las polinómicas, logarítmicas, exponenciales, diferenciales, hasta llegar a modelos que incluyan ecuaciones de  redes neuronales artificiales; también se clasifican en modelos primarios, secundarios o terciarios; que después de ser consolidados y aplicados logran unas predicciones robustas y seguras; sobre el comportamiento de los microorganismos en alimentos [9]

Regulatori struje aktivnih filtara snage za poboljšanje kvalitete snage: Tehnička analiza

Non-linear load deteriorates the quality of current waveforms at the point of common coupling of various consumers. Active power filter (APFs) is used to mitigate the most concern harmonic pollution in an electrical network. The controller part is the nucleus of an active power filter configuration. Active power filter performance is affected significantly by the selection of current control techniques. The active filter and its current control must have the capability to track sudden slope variations in the current reference to compensate the distorted current drawn by the voltage source inverter. Therefore, the choice and implementation of the current regulator is more important for the achievement of a satisfactory performance level. In this survey, technical reviews of various types of controllers covering a wide range have been presented. This work also reveals the advantages and disadvantages of the practiced control strategies. The effectiveness of the study will help the researchers to choose the proper control methods for various applicationsof active power filter.Nelinearni tereti pogoršavaju kvalitetu strujnih valova u točki u kojoj se spaja više potrošača. Aktivni filtar snage se koristi za ublažavanje najvažnijeg harmoničkog onečišćenja strujne mreže. Jezgra aktivnog filtra snage je regulator. Na performanse aktivnog filtra snage značajno utječe odabir upravljačke tehnike. Aktivni filtar i njegova tehnika upravljanja strujom moraju imati mogućnost pratiti nagle skokove u referentnoj vrijednosti struje kako bi mogli kompenzirati izobličenja struje koju vuče inverter naponskog izvora. Zato su izbor i implementacija regulatora struje iznimno važni za postizanje zadovoljavajuće razine performansi. U ovom pregledu su predstavljene tehničke recenzije koje pokrivaju širok raspon regulatora. Ovaj rad također otkriva prednosti i mane korištenih strategija upravljanja. Efektivnost ovog pregleda pomoći će istraživačima da izaberu ispravnu metodu upravljanja za različite aplikacije aktivnog filtra snage

The Effect of Data Revisions on the Basic New Keynesian Model

This paper proposes an extended version of the basic New Keynesian monetary (NKM) model which contemplates revision processes of output and inflation data in order to assess the importance of data revisions on the estimated monetary policy rule parameters and the transmission of policy shocks. Our empirical evidence based on a structural econometric approach suggests that although the initial announcements of output and inflation are not rational forecasts of revised output and inflation data, ignoring the presence of non well-behaved revision processes may not be a serious drawback in the analysis of monetary policy in this framework. However, the transmission of inflation-push shocks is largely affected by considering data revisions. The latter being especially true when the nominal stickiness parameter is estimated taking into account data revision processes
