    On alternative mixed integer programming formulations and LP-based heuristics for lot-sizing with setup times

    We address the multi-item, capacitated lot-sizing problem (CLSP) encountered in environments where demand is dynamic and to be met on time. Items compete for a limited capacity resource, which requires a setup for each lot of items to be produced causing unproductive time but no direct costs. The problem belongs to a class of problems that are difcult to solve. Even the feasibility problem becomes combinatorial when setup times are considered. This difculty in reaching optimality and the practical relevance of CLSP make it important to design and analyse heuristics to nd good solutions that can be implemented in practice. We consider certain mixed integer programming formulations of the problem and develop heuristics including a curtailed branch and bound, for rounding the setup variables in the LP solution of the tighter formulations.     An investigation of first grade elementary teacher candidates’ perceptions of their teaching profession competencies: A mixed method study

    Although teaching profession has lost its prestige over the years, the recent studies demonstrate that teaching still ranks among the top of most respected of professions. Teacher candidates’ individual characteristics play a crucial role in choosing teachers and designing curriculum for educating teacher candidates. The present study is of vital importance to identify the perceptions of first grade teacher candidates enrolled in Faculty of Education towards teaching profession and whether they have teaching competencies needed or not. In this research, a mixed research, sequential explanatory mixed design was utilized in which both quantitative and qualitative data were analyzed together. The quantitative data were collected through using teaching competency scale for teacher candidates and afterwards quantitative data was statistically analyzed. It was thus attempted to draw a general picture of the research problem. According to the results obtained, an in-depth analysis of teacher candidates’ perceptions of teaching competencies was required. Employing quantitative data, purposive sampling was identified and semi-structured interviews were carried out with the participants in the purposive sampling. The unidimensional scale developed by [1] and adapted into Turkish by [2] was employed for data collection in the quantitative stage of the research. When viewing teacher candidates’ perceptions on their teaching competencies, first grade teacher candidates stated that they perceive themselves competent in terms of attitude and values and vocation skills. © 2018 by authors, all rights reserved

    Developing a Behavioral Disposition Perception Scale for Determining High School Preferences of 8th Graders

    This study sought to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool that measures the perceptions of behavioral dispositions in determining the high school preferences of 8th grade students. The study population consisted of 26,906 eight graders in public and private secondary schools located in the city centres of Aydın and Denizli, Turkey. The sample was selected using the disproportionate cluster sampling method. In this respect, a total of 400 students in the pilot implementation and 700 students in the large sample implementation participated in the implementation in equal numbers in both provinces. In the pilot implementation phase of the research, a three-dimensional trial form consisting of 125 items was administered to the 8th graders, as the sample group. Exploratory factor analysis was employed to ensure the construct validity, and a scale consisting of 45 items and three factors was identified. The sub-dimensions of the scale were named as cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. However, the scale was developed in a 5-point Likert type. Referring to the reliability study of the scale, the Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient was calculated as.962 in the pilot implementation and as.888 in the large sample implementation. The results revealed that the Behavioral Disposition Perception Scale was a valid and reliable measurement tool in measuring the perceptions of behavioral dispositions of 8th graders in determining their high school preferences

    Development of Pamukkale Piano Learning Style Scale

    In musical instrument training, piano has been taught as a compulsory instrument in all departments of Music Education. It is thought that as a major instrument, piano plays a crucial role in music education. Without question, it is highly vital to raise individuals' awareness of learning styles towards learning piano in effort to practice piano courses more efficiently and effectively. In this respect, the present study is of utmost importance as it will be a pioneer study and make a great deal of contributions to the relevant field. The current study was designed to develop a valid and reliable scale. The population of the study consisted of 170 music teacher candidates majoring in Music Education, including those who already took piano lessons. Although the study successfully accessed to the whole sample, only 133 scales were included to the research, due to inaccurate or incomplete data in subjects' responses. To test the construct validity of the scale, explanatory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used.     An Examination of Pre-Service Teachers’ Competencies in Lesson Planning

    This study concerns the investigation of pre-service teachers’ competencies in lesson planning from different perspectives. In this respect, it is intended to develop a roadmap to figure out the pre-service teachers’ competency levels in lesson planning pertaining to a four-year- education program. The study was designed as a quantitative study and the general screening model was used. This model is designed with the relational screening model. The study population comprises of 3rd grade and senior students majoring in classroom, preschool, science, social sciences, mathematics and Turkish language teaching departments at Pamukkale University in the 2018-2019 academic year. “The Competency Scale for Lesson Planning” developed by the researcher attempted to determine pre-service teachers’ competencies in lesson planning. Considering reliability and validity levels of the scale, this scale can also be administered to different sample groups. The results denoted that pre-service teachers have an optimal level of competency in lesson planning

    Bireyde öğrenmeyi gerçekleştiren beynin çalışma prensibine göre öğrenme öğretme sürecini organize etmek ve bu planlamanın öğrencilerin akademik başarısına ne şekilde yansıdığını görmek, bu araştırmanın önemini oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, beyin temelli öğrenme yaklaşımının, ilkokul 5. sınıf öğrencilerinin fen bilimleri dersinde “Canlılar Dünyasını Gezelim” alt öğrenme alanı ile ilgili başarıları üzerinde bir etki yaratıp yaratmadığını incelemektir. Bu çalışmada, 2013-2014 eğitim öğretim yılının bahar döneminde Denizli merkezde yer alan bir ilkokulun 5.sınıf şubelerinde öğrenim gören 58 öğrenci yer almıştır. Araştırma probleminin çözümü için öğrencilerin denkleştirilmesinde kullanılmak üzere bir anket formu, öğrencilerin akademik başarılarını ve kalıcılığını ölçmek amacıyla başarı testi kullanılmıştır.     The Opinions of Primary Candidate Teachers Requirements and Job-Utiliy of the Courses Offered In Elementary Teacher Education Programs

    Bu çalışmanın amacı, Sınıf Öğretmenliği'nde öğrenim gören dördüncü sınıf öğrencilerinin, dört yıl boyunca aldıkları derslerin kendi algılarına göre, sınıf öğretmenliği programında yer almasının gerekliliğini ve mesleğe başladıktan sonra bu derslerin öğretmen adaylarının mesleklerini icra etmeleri noktasında etkililiğini (işe vurukluğu) incelemektir. Araştırmanın evrenini 2012-2013 eğitim-öğretim yılında Pamukkale Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi İlköğretim Bölümü Sınıf Öğretmenliği Anabilim Dalı dördüncü sınıflarında öğrenim gören öğretmen adayları oluşturmaktadır. Evrende bulunan 300 öğretmen adayının tamamına ulaşılmıştır. Veriler araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan ölçme aracı kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Ölçme aracının güvenirlik katsayısı 0.812 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Sınıf öğretmenliği için en çok gerekli görülen beş ders, ilk okuma yazma dersi, öğretmenlik uygulaması, türkçe öğretimi, okul deneyimi, sınıf yönetimi dersleridir. En az gerekli görülen dersler sırasıyla, genel fizik, uygarlık tarihi, genel kimya, eğitim felsefesi, eğitim sosyolojisi dersleri olmuştur. Öğrencilerin en çok işe vuruk bulduğu derslerin sırasıyla öğretmenlik uygulaması, ilk okuma yazma öğretimi, rehberlik, okul deneyimi, türkçe öğretimi; öğrencilerin en az işe vuruk olduğunu belirtikleri dersler ise fizik, kimya, biyoloji, sanat eğitimi, uygarlık tarihi, bilimsel araştırma yöntemleri, ölçme ve değerlendirme olduğu görülmektedir.The purpose of this study is to examine the necessity and job utility of courses taking part in the elemantary education program. The research population in the 2012-2013 academic year, Pamukkale University Faculty of Education Department of Teaching Elementary School fourth-grade teacher candidates are studying in. All 300 teachers in the universe has been reached. Data was obtained using the measuring tool prepared by the researcher. The reliability coefficient was calculated as a measurement tool 0.812. Most five courses required for classroom teaching, literacy courses, teaching practice, Turkish teaching, school experiences, classroom management courses. Minimum order required courses, general physics, history of civilization, general chemistry, philosophy of education, sociology of education has lessons. The job utility most students find work teaching practice, respectively, of the courses, literacy teaching, guidance, school experience, Turkish teaching; the job utility at least that students work while explicitly courses in physics, chemistry, biology, art, education, history of civilization, scientific research methods, measurement and evaluation seems to be that

    Bu çalışmanın amacı, mesleğe başlamadan fen edebiyat programlarında eğitim görmüş, aldıkları pedagojik formasyon programı ile öğretmenlik mesleğini yapacak öğretmen adayları ile eğitim fakültesi bünyesinde yer alan öğretmen adayları arasında ölçme değerlendirme dersini yeteri kadar önemseyip önemsemediklerini tutum boyutunda incelemektir. Araştırma nicel bir çalışma olarak tasarlanmış ve genel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Bu modele uygun olarak, ilişkisel tarama modeli ile desenlenmiştir. Bu araştırmanın evrenini, Pamukkale Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi'nde öğrenim gören ölçme değerlendirme dersi almış dördüncü sınıf öğrencileri ile yine aynı dersi almış fen edebiyat mezunu pedagojik formasyon programında yer alan öğrenciler oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı olarak Yaşar'ın (2014) geliştirmiş olduğu "Eğitimde Ölçme ve Değerlendirme Dersine Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği" kullanılmıştır. Cinsiyet, genel başarı not ortalaması ve lisans öğrenimindeki alan değişkenleri bazında incelenmiş ve ölçme değerlendirme dersi ile aralarında anlamlı farklar tespit edilmiştir. Tutkin kohdettani perheellisten suomalais-turkkilaisten pariskuntien haastattelupuheen ja sosiaalisten verkostojen kautta. Aineistoni koostuu kahdeksasta turkkilais-suomalaisen perheen osapuolen haastattelusta ja haastateltujen sosiaalisista verkostoista keräämästäni verkostoaineistosta. Tutkimusmenetelmässäni yhdistyy niin haastattelupuheen kuin verkostoaineistonkin analysointi, jossa keskeisellä sijalla on perheen toiminta ja sen dynamiikka. Kolmannen tilan käsite on tuttu Carmen ja Allan Lukelta (1998), Lawrence Grossbergiltä (1996), Homi K. Bhabhalta (1995). Samantyyppistä kolmannen kulttuurin käsitettä ovat käyttäneet muun muassa Viertola-Cavallari (2004) ja Oksi-Walter (2004). Muita tärkeitä lähteitä tutkielmassani ovat varsinkin maahanmuuttaja- ja monikulttuurisuustutkimuksen saralla muun muassa Maarit Marjetan (2001) tutkimus somalinaisista, Hannu Sirkkilän (2005) väitöskirja suomalais-thaimaalaisista avioliitoista sekä Päivi Harisen (2000) tutkimus nuorten kansalaisuuskäsityksistä. Lisäksi Ulf Hannerzin (1996) ajatus hybrideistä kulttuurimuodoista ja Stuart Hallin (2003, 1999) teoriat monikulttuurisuudesta ja identiteetistä pohjustavat tutkielmani näkökulmaa. Verkostonäkökulmani on muotoutunut eliaslaisen konfigurationaalisen lähestymistavan kautta, jossa painopisteenäni on yksilökeskeisten verkostojen logiikan ja kontekstien tarkasteleminen. Tutkimustulosteni analysointi on kaksitasoinen: ensiksi tarkastelen sitä, miten kolmas tila muodostuu eli miten ja minkälaisten reunaehtojen puitteissa sitä luodaan suomalais-turkkilaisten perheiden arjessa. Toiseksi tarkastelen sitä, miten kolmas tila ilmenee perheiden sosiaalisissa verkostoissa. Yleisemmällä tasolla keskityn suomalais-turkkilaisten perheiden toiminnan ja neuvottelun dynamiikan tarkasteluun. Perheiden kolmas tila rakentuu haastattelupuheen tasolla erillisyyden, pienen ja tiiviin läheisten piirin, sopeutumisen, tapojen ja käytäntöjen joustavuuden sekä turkkilaisen sukulaisuuden asettamien reunaehtojen muodostamista aineksista. Sosiaalisen kanssakäymisen tasolla taas puolison merkittävä rooli verkostosuhteiden muovaajana, ystävyyssuhteiden perustuminen samankaltaisuuteen ja niiden sitoutuminen monikulttuurisuuden kontekstiin ovat keskeisiä kolmannen tilan elementtejä
