Observer Based Scheme for the Control of High Order Systems with Two Unstable Poles Plus Time Delay

    No full text
International audienceThis paper deals with the problem of the stabilization and control of linear time invariant high order systems with two unstable real poles plus time delay. A simple observer based controller is designed in order to achieve a stable behavior of the closed loop system. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the proposed control structure are stated. Hence, only four proportional gains and the model of the plant are enough to obtain a stable response of the delayed system. Moreover, a robustness analysis is presented in order to compute the maximal uncertainty bound accepted for the delay term. In addition, a two degrees of freedom PI control action is implemented in order to track step references and to reject step disturbances. The achieved performance of the proposed control strategy is illustrated by mean of numerical simulations

This article examines the issue of adolescent pregnancy as a problem. Through a historical journey across journalistic sources and a legal corpus, the authors show the current naturalization when this topic is addressed. A guiding issue is the inclusion of the voices of those involved, to think about strategies that keep them company (which is understood as an important demand from the adolescents).: Este artigo examina o “problema da gravidez na adolescência”. Ontop: answering SPARQL queries over relational databases

    Get PDF
We present Ontop, an open-source Ontology-Based Data Access (OBDA) system that allows for querying relational data sources through a conceptual representation of the domain of interest, provided in terms of an ontology, to which the data sources are mapped. Key features of Ontop are its solid theoretical foundations, a virtual approach to OBDA, which avoids materializing triples and is implemented through the query rewriting technique, extensive optimizations exploiting all elements of the OBDA architecture, its compliance to all relevant W3C recommendations (including SPARQL queries, R2RML mappings, and OWL2QL and RDFS ontologies), and its support for all major relational databases

RODI: Benchmarking Relational-to-Ontology Mapping Generation Quality

    Get PDF
Accessing and utilizing enterprise or Web data that is scattered across multiple data sources is an important task for both applications and users. Ontology-based data integration, where an ontology mediates between the raw data and its consumers, is a promising approach to facilitate such scenarios. This approach crucially relies on useful mappings to relate the ontology and the data, the latter being typically stored in relational databases. A number of systems to support the construction of such mappings have recently been developed. A generic and effective benchmark for reliable and comparable evaluation of the practical utility of such systems would make an important contribution to the development of ontology-based data integration systems and their application in practice. We have proposed such a benchmark, called RODI. In this paper, we present a new version of RODI, which significantly extends our previous benchmark, and we evaluate various systems with it. RODI includes test scenarios from the domains of scientific conferences, geographical data, and oil and gas exploration. Scenarios are constituted of databases, ontologies, and queries to test expected results. Systems that compute relational-to-ontology mappings can be evaluated using RODI by checking how well they can handle various features of relational schemas and ontologies, and how well the computed mappings work for query answering. Using RODI, we conducted a comprehensive evaluation of seven systems

A Novel Space Filling Curves Based Approach to PSO Algorithms for Autonomous Agents

    Get PDF
In this work the swarm behavior principles of Craig W. Reynolds are combined with deterministic traits. This is done by using leaders with motions based on space filling curves like Peano and Hilbert. Our goal is to evaluate how the swarm of agents works with this approach, supposing the entire swarm will better explore the entire space. Therefore, we examine different combinations of Peano and Hilbert with the already known swarm algorithms and test them in a practical challenge for the harvesting of manganese nodules on the sea ground with the use of autonomous robots. We run experiments with various settings, then evaluate and describe the results. In the last section some further development ideas and thoughts for the expansion of this study are considered

Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithms for Autonomous Robots with Leaders Using Hilbert Curves

The approaches in this work combine the swarm behavior principles of Craig W. Reynolds with space filling curves movements. We intend to evaluate how the entire swarm moves by including a deterministic leader behavior for some agents. Therefore, we examine different combinations of Hilbert Curves with the classical swarm algorithms. We introduce a practical problem, the collection of manganese nodules on the sea ground by using autonomous agents. Some relevant experiments, combining different parameters for the leaders were run and the results are evaluated and described. Finally, we propose further developments and ideas to continue this research

Driving Magnetic Domains at the Nanoscale by Interfacial Strain-induced Proximity

We investigate the local nanoscale changes of the magnetic anisotropy of a Ni film subject to an inverse magnetostrictive effect by proximity to a V2O3 layer. Using temperature-dependent photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) combined with X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD), direct images of the Ni spin alignment across the first-order structural phase transition (SPT) of V2O3 were obtained. We find an abrupt temperature-driven reorientation of the Ni magnetic domains across the SPT, which is associated with a large increase of the coercive field. Moreover, angular dependent ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) shows a remarkable change in the magnetic anisotropy of the Ni film across the SPT of V2O3. Micromagnetic simulations based on these results are in quantitative agreement with the PEEM data. Direct measurements of the lateral correlation length of the Ni domains from XMCD images show an increase of almost one order of magnitude at the SPT compared to room temperature, as well as a broad spatial distribution of the local transition temperatures, thus corroborating the phase coexistence of Ni anisotropies caused by the V2O3 SPT. We show that the rearrangement of the Ni domains is due to strain induced by the oxide layers' structural domains across the SPT. Our results illustrate the use of alternative hybrid systems to manipulate magnetic domains at the nanoscale, which allows for engineering of coercive fields for novel data storage architectures

Multiple Apoptotic Caspase Cascades Are Required in Nonapoptotic Roles for Drosophila Spermatid Individualization

Spermatozoa are generated and mature within a germline syncytium. Differentiation of haploid syncytial spermatids into single motile sperm requires the encapsulation of each spermatid by an independent plasma membrane and the elimination of most sperm cytoplasm, a process known as individualization. Apoptosis is mediated by caspase family proteases. Many apoptotic cell deaths in Drosophila utilize the REAPER/HID/GRIM family proapoptotic proteins. These proteins promote cell death, at least in part, by disrupting interactions between the caspase inhibitor DIAP1 and the apical caspase DRONC, which is continually activated in many viable cells through interactions with ARK, the Drosophila homolog of the mammalian death-activating adaptor APAF-1. This leads to unrestrained activity of DRONC and other DIAP1-inhibitable caspases activated by DRONC. Here we demonstrate that ARK- and HID-dependent activation of DRONC occurs at sites of spermatid individualization and that all three proteins are required for this process. dFADD, the Drosophila homolog of mammalian FADD, an adaptor that mediates recruitment of apical caspases to ligand-bound death receptors, and its target caspase DREDD are also required. A third apoptotic caspase, DRICE, is activated throughout the length of individualizing spermatids in a process that requires the product of the driceless locus, which also participates in individualization. Our results demonstrate that multiple caspases and caspase regulators, likely acting at distinct points in time and space, are required for spermatid individualization, a nonapoptotic process
