On the alpha activity of natural tungsten isotopes

The indication for the alpha decay of 180-W with a half-life T1/2=1.1+0.8-0.4(stat)+-0.3(syst)x10^18 yr has been observed for the first time with the help of the super-low background 116-CdWO_4 crystal scintillators. In conservative approach the lower limit on half-life of 180-W has been established as T1/2>0.7x10^18 yr at 90% C.L. Besides, new T1/2 bounds were set for alpha decay of 182-W, 183-W, 184-W and 186-W at the level of 10^20 yr.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures, accepted in Phys. Rev.

Pulse-shape discrimination with PbWO4_4 crystal scintillators

The light output, α/ÎČ\alpha/\beta ratio, and pulse shape have been investigated at −25∘-25^\circ C with PbWO4_4 crystal scintillators undoped, and doped by F, Eu, Mo, Gd and S. The fast 0.01−0.06ÎŒ0.01-0.06 \mus and middle 0.1−0.5ÎŒ0.1-0.5 \mus components of scintillation decay were observed for all the samples. Slow components of scintillation signal with the decay times 1−3ÎŒ1-3 \mus and 13−28ÎŒ13-28 \mus with the total intensity up to ≈50\approx50% have been recognized for several samples doped by Molybdenum. We found some indications of a pulse-shape discrimination between α\alpha particles and Îł\gamma quanta with PbWO4_4 (Mo doped) crystal scintillators.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures, submitted to NIM

Response of CdWO4 crystal scintillator for few MeV ions and low energy electrons

The response of a CdWO4 crystal scintillator to protons, alpha particles, Li, C, O and Ti ions with energies in the range 1 - 10 MeV was measured. The non-proportionality of CdWO4 for low energy electrons (4 - 110 keV) was studied with the Compton Coincidence Technique. The energy dependence of the quenching factors for ions and the relative light yield for low energy electrons was calculated using a semi-empirical approach. Pulse-shape discrimination ability between gamma quanta, protons, alpha particles and ions was investigated.Comment: 20 pages, 8 figs, accepted in Nucl. Instrum. Meth.

    The Îł\gamma-circular polarizations (PÎłP_{\gamma}) and asymmetries (AÎłA_{\gamma}) of the parity forbidden M1 + E2 Îł\gamma-decays: 36Cl∗(Jπ=2−;T=1;Ex=1.95^{36}Cl^{\ast} (J^{\pi} = 2^{-}; T = 1; E_{x} = 1.95 MeV) →\rightarrow 36Cl(Jπ=2+;T=1;g.s.)^{36}Cl (J^{\pi} = 2^{+}; T = 1; g.s.) and 36Ar∗(Jπ=2−;T=0;Ex=4.97^{36}Ar^{\ast} (J^{\pi} = 2^{-}; T = 0; E_{x} = 4.97 MeV) →\rightarrow 36Ar∗(Jπ=2+;T=0;Ex=1.97^{36}Ar^{\ast} (J^{\pi} = 2^{+}; T = 0; E_{x} = 1.97 MeV) are investigated theoretically. We use the recently proposed Warburton-Becker-Brown shell-model interaction. For the weak forces we discuss comparatively different weak interaction models based on different assumptions for evaluating the weak meson-hadron coupling constants. The results determine a range of PÎłP_{\gamma} values from which we find the most probable values: PÎłP_{\gamma} = 1.1⋅10−41.1 \cdot 10^{-4} for 36Cl^{36}Cl and PÎłP_{\gamma} = 3.5⋅10−43.5 \cdot 10^{-4} for 36Ar^{36}Ar.Comment: RevTeX, 17 pages; to appear in Phys. Spectroscopy of 98Ru

    Get PDF
The nucleus 98 Ru has been investigated by means of Îł - Îł coincidence, Îł - Îł angular correlation and K-internal conversion coefficient measurements. The results have led to spin-parity assignment to several levels and to the determination of E 2/ M 1 mixing ratios for the most intense transitions

Shape transitions far from stability: The nucleus 58Cr

    Get PDF
Abstract Excited states up to I π = 8 + in the neutron-rich nucleus 58Cr have been identified by using a new experimental setup composed of the large acceptance magnetic spectrometer PRISMA and the highly efficient Îł-detector array CLARA. Interestingly, the excitation energy sequence of the ground-state band follows the one expected by the E ( 5 ) dynamical symmetry for a nucleus at the critical point of the shape phase transition from a spherical vibrator ( U ( 5 ) ) to a Îł-soft rotor ( O ( 6 ) ). For the first time, in the same physical system, large scale shell-model calculations in the full fp shell are compared to the E ( 5 ) analytical model results and to the Interacting Boson Model. The theoretical results are in excellent agreement with the present data

Lifetime measurements of excited states in neutron-rich nuclei around 48 Ca

    Get PDF
The lifetimes of the first excited states of the N = 30 isotones 50Ca and 51Sc and the Z = 18 isotopes 44−46Ar isotopes have been determined using a novel technique that combines the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift method with the CLARA-PRISMA spectrometers in multinucleon transfer reactions. The results allow determinination of the effective charges above 48Ca and test the strength of the N = 28 magic number when moving away from the stability line.Gadea Raga, AndrĂ©s, [email protected] ; Algora, Alejandro, [email protected] ; Rubio Barroso, Berta, [email protected]

Here the preliminary results of the 238U(n,Îł) cross section measurement performed at n-TOF with C6D6 scintillation detectors are presented, paying particular attention to data reduction and background subtraction.Peer reviewe

Oblate collectivity in the yrast structure of 194Pt

    Get PDF
A deep inelastic reaction using a 460 MeV 82Se beam incident upon a thick 192Os target was performed at the Legnaro National Laboratory, Italy. The resulting Îł-decays were measured using the GASP array. Results for 194Pt extend the known level scheme of the yrast structure from spin I = (12 ħ) to (20 ħ). The irregularities in the sequence of the new transition energies and total Routhian surface calculations show a breakdown in collectivity with an yrast oblate shape remaining to high spin.Rubio Barroso, Berta, [email protected]
