    A Transformative Concept: From Data Being Passive Objects to Data Being Active Subjects

    The exploitation of potential societal benefits of Earth observations is hampered by users having to engage in often tedious processes to discover data and extract information and knowledge. A concept is introduced for a transition from the current perception of data as passive objects (DPO) to a new perception of data as active subjects (DAS). This transition would greatly increase data usage and exploitation, and support the extraction of knowledge from data products. Enabling the data subjects to actively reach out to potential users would revolutionize data dissemination and sharing and facilitate collaboration in user communities. The three core elements of the transformative DAS concept are: (1) intelligent semantic data agents (ISDAs) that have the capabilities to communicate with their human and digital environment. Each ISDA provides a voice to the data product it represents. It has comprehensive knowledge of the represented product including quality, uncertainties, access conditions, previous uses, user feedbacks, etc., and it can engage in transactions with users. (2) A knowledge base that constructs extensive graphs presenting a comprehensive picture of communities of people, applications, models, tools, and resources and provides tools for the analysis of these graphs. (3) An interaction platform that links the ISDAs to the human environment and facilitates transaction including discovery of products, access to products and derived knowledge, modifications and use of products, and the exchange of feedback on the usage.     The KADoNiS-pp project is an online database for cross sections relevant to the pp-process. All existing experimental data was collected and reviewed. With this contribution a user-friendly database using the KADoNiS (Karlsruhe Astrophysical Database of Nucleosynthesis in Stars) framework is launched, including all available experimental data from (p,γ\gamma), (p,n), (p,α\alpha), (α\alpha,γ\gamma), (α\alpha,n) and (α\alpha,p) reactions in or close to the respective Gamow window with cut-off date of August 2012 (www.kadonis.org/pprocess).Comment: Proceedings Nuclear Data Conference 2013, published in Nuclear Data Sheets 120 (2014) 19

    The new p-process database of KADoNiS

    The KADoNiS (Karlsruhe Astrophysical Database of Nucleosynthesis in Stars) project is an online database (www.kadonis.org) for cross sections relevant to the s-process and the p-process. The first version was an updated sequel to the previous Bao et al. [1] compilations from 1987 and 2000 for (n; g) cross sections relevant to Big Bang and s-process nucleosynthesis. The first update, KADoNiS v0.2, was published in 2006 [2]. It contained mainly Maxwellian averaged (n; g) cross sections relevant to the s-process, and some experimental charged particle induced reaction relevant to the p-process. After that a second update was presented in 2009 [3]. Recently, we started to collect and review all existing experimental data relevant for p-process nucleosynthesis and to provide a user-friendly database based on the KADoNiS framework. The p-process part of the KADoNiS database is currently being extended and will include all available experimental data from (p; g), (p;n), (p;a), (a,g), (a;n) and (a; p) reactions in or close to the respective Gamow window

    Neutron activation of natural zinc samples at kT = 25 keV

    The neutron-capture cross sections of 64Zn, 68Zn, and 70Zn have been measured with the activation technique in a quasistellar neutron spectrum corresponding to a thermal energy of kT = 25 keV. By a series of repeated irradiations with different experimental conditions, an uncertainty of 3% could be achieved for the 64Zn(n,g)65Zn cross section and for the partial cross section 68Zn(n,g)69Zn-m feeding the isomeric state in 69Zn. For the partial cross sections 70Zn(n,g)71Zn-m and 70Zn(n,g)71Zn-g, which had not been measured so far, uncertainties of only 16% and 6% could be reached because of limited counting statistics and decay intensities. Compared to previous measurements on 64,68Zn, the uncertainties could be significantly improved, while the 70Zn cross section was found to be two times smaller than existing model calculations. From these results Maxwellian average cross sections were determined between 5 and 100 keV. Additionally, the beta-decay half-life of 71Zn-m could be determined with significantly improved accuracy. The consequences of these data have been studied by network calculations for convective core He burning and convective shell C burning in massive stars

    Economies of Scale in Household Consumption

    This research empirically analyses the influence of scale economies on household consumption and the resulting implications for birth-promoting policies. For this purpose, the relation between an increase in household size and food, clothing, household goods, healthcare, energy, transport as well as education expenditures per person was investigated. Data of 10,858 Georgian households from the Integrated Household Survey 2015 was evaluated using regressions. It was found that there are significant economies of scale in consumption of food, clothing and energy but diseconomies of scale for household goods, transport and education. For healthcare expenditures, no significant relation with household size was found
