Elastic properties of woven bone: effect of mineral content and collagen fibrils orientation

Woven bone is a type of tissue that forms mainly during fracture healing or fetal bone development. Its microstructure can be modeled as a composite with a matrix of mineral (hydroxyapatite) and inclusions of collagen fibrils with a more or less random orientation. In the present study, its elastic properties were estimated as a function of composition (degree of mineralization) and fibril orientation. A self-consistent homogenization scheme considering randomness of inclusions’ orientation was used for this purpose. Lacuno-canalicular porosity in the form of periodically distributed void inclusions was also considered. Assuming collagen fibrils to be uniformly oriented in all directions led to an isotropic tissue with a Young’s modulus E= 1.90 GPa, which is of the same order of magnitude as that of woven bone in fracture calluses. By contrast, assuming fibrils to have a preferential orientation resulted in a Young’s modulus in the preferential direction of 9–16 GPa depending on the mineral content of the tissue. These results are consistent with experimental evidence for woven bone in foetuses, where collagen fibrils are aligned to a certain extent

An Evolutionary Computational Approach for the Problem of Unit Commitment and Economic Dispatch in Microgrids under Several Operation Modes

In the last decades, new types of generation technologies have emerged and have been gradually integrated into the existing power systems, moving their classical architectures to distributed systems. Despite the positive features associated to this paradigm, new problems arise such as coordination and uncertainty. In this framework, microgrids constitute an effective solution to deal with the coordination and operation of these distributed energy resources. This paper proposes a Genetic Algorithm (GA) to address the combined problem of Unit Commitment (UC) and Economic Dispatch (ED). With this end, a model of a microgrid is introduced together with all the control variables and physical constraints. To optimally operate the microgrid, three operation modes are introduced. The first two attend to optimize economical and environmental factors, while the last operation mode considers the errors induced by the uncertainties in the demand forecasting. Therefore, it achieves a robust design that guarantees the power supply for different confidence levels. Finally, the algorithm was applied to an example scenario to illustrate its performance. Construction and Calibration of a Low-Cost 3D Laser Scanner with 360◦ Field of View for Mobile Robots

Navigation of many mobile robots relies on environmental information obtained from three-dimensional (3D) laser scanners. This paper presents a new 360◦ field-of-view 3D laser scanner for mobile robots that avoids the high cost of commercial devices. The 3D scanner is based on spinning a Hokuyo UTM- 30LX-EX two-dimensional (2D) rangefinder around its optical center. The proposed design profits from lessons learned with the development of a previous 3D scanner with pitching motion. Intrinsic calibration of the new device has been performed to obtain both temporal and geometric parameters. Sistemas penitenciarios: una perspectiva desde la población extranjera privada de libertad

En este TFG, vamos a abordar la evolución de las prisiones españolas y las dificultades que se han ido encontrando respecto a la hetereogeneidad de la población penintenciaria, en este aspecto haremos hincapié en los problemas con los que se encuentran las instituciones con los presos extranjeros, y las soluciones que plantean las diferentes normativas al respecto. Abordaremos el Tratado de Estrasburgo, como uno de los mayores avances penitenciarios a nivel internacional, pudiendo mediante el acuerdo de los diferentes países firmantes de este Tratado, poder cumplir la condena impuesta en el país de origen, lo cual favorecerá a la resocialización del recluso mediante el arraigo familiar que le une con el país de origen.Grado en Criminologí

Diagnóstico actual sobre la escolarización combinada de un alumno

En el siguiente trabajo se expone el tema de la escolarización de un alumno con necesidades educativas especiales, haciendo especial hincapié en la escolarización combinada como propuesta organizativa desde el punto de vista del análisis y diagnóstico sobre la situación actual que vive el propio alumno, además de querer saber la opinión personal sobre este tipo de escolarización de los diferentes agentes de la comunidad educativa involucrados en el mismo. A partir de la revisión bibliográfica y las diferentes entrevistas que se han realizado en el entorno del alumno y al propio alumno, se examinará a través de un análisis DAFO, las ventajas e inconvenientes que supone dicha escolarización. Por último, se presentarán las conclusiones a las que se ha llegado, tras la compilación y el análisis de la información, y todo el trabajo realizado, debatiendo sobre la escolarización y la situación del alumno.Grado en Educación Primari
