This report is based upon student\u27s experiences and observations during a 7 weeks\u27 period of field training in Public Health Nutrition with the Florida State Board of Health. Six weeks were spent with the Regional Nutrition Consultant in Saint Petersburg, and one week was spent with the local nutritionist in the Hillsborough County Health Department in Tampa. Because it was impossible to grasp the scope of a state, district, and local program in a 7 weeks\u27 period, the information given in this report is necessarily limited. The main objectives of the field training were: (1) to give the student an understanding of the organization, functions, and programs of an official health agency; (2) to learn how nutrition is integrated into the total public health program; (3) to become aware of the problems and needs in public health; (4) to gain an understanding of the work of a nutrition consultant in conducting the nutrition program as related to public health needs; and (5) to help the student realize or become aware of the challenges in the field of Public Health Nutrition. The over-all goal of the field experiences was to implement the student\u27s academic training and to broaden her concept of Public Health Nutrition. To help the student accomplish these objectives, the state and district nutritionists planned a program of varied experiences. Several activities were planned with the Pinellas County Health Department in Saint Petersburg. These activities were necessarily limited because the office of the regional nutritionist is located in the Mound Park Hospital. The student had opportunity to work with some of the local health personnel while working on a special assigned project. Other experiences included field visits to small health departments, voluntary agencies, and school lunchrooms. The student had conferences with the Director of Nutrition Services and observed the local and regional nutritionists teaching nutrition classes

This collection includes records from Gettysburg College’s application process to the NEA, the selection process of the artist, images from the installation process of Sentinel, correspondence and an interview with Martin Puryear, newspaper cutouts of Sentinel’s reception. As well as records from Molly Hutton’s efforts to seek awareness and funding for the preservation and conservation of Sentinel in the early 2000s. Records from the application for an assessment award under Save Outdoor Sculpture! (SOS!), and a manuscript for a story on Sentinel to be featured in the GETTYSBURG alumni magazine are also included. Special Collections and College Archives Finding Aids are discover tools used to describe and provide access to our holdings. Finding aids include historical and biographical information about each collection in addition to inventories of their contnet.

Optimized LTE Data Transmission Procedures for IoT: Device Side Energy Consumption Analysis

The efficient deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) over cellular networks, such as Long Term Evolution (LTE) or the next generation 5G, entails several challenges. For massive IoT, reducing the energy consumption on the device side becomes essential. One of the main characteristics of massive IoT is small data transmissions. To improve the support of them, the 3GPP has included two novel optimizations in LTE: one of them based on the Control Plane (CP), and the other on the User Plane (UP). In this paper, we analyze the average energy consumption per data packet using these two optimizations compared to conventional LTE Service Request procedure. We propose an analytical model to calculate the energy consumption for each procedure based on a Markov chain. In the considered scenario, for large and small Inter-Arrival Times (IATs), the results of the three procedures are similar. While for medium IATs CP reduces the energy consumption per packet up to 87% due to its connection release optimization

The CC chemokine ligand 3 regulates CD11c+CD11b+CD8alpha- dendritic cell maturation and activation following viral infection of the central nervous system: implications for a role in T cell activation.

The role of CC chemokine ligand 3 (CCL3) in activation of dendritic cells (DCs) following mouse hepatitis virus (MHV) infection of the central nervous system (CNS) was examined. The results indicate that CCL3 participates in an effective host response to MHV infection by contributing to CD11c+CD11b+CD8alpha- DC maturation, activation, and migration to cervical lymph nodes (CLN). Diminished CD8alpha- DC activation correlated with reduced IFN-gamma expression by virus-specific T cells accompanied by increased IL-10 production suggesting that CCL3 contributes to an effective host response to viral infection by enhancing the T cell activation potential of DC
