    Omnidirectional Bats, Point-to-Plane Distances, and the Price of Uniqueness

    We study simultaneous localization and mapping with a device that uses reflections to measure its distance from walls. Such a device can be realized acoustically with a synchronized collocated source and receiver; it behaves like a bat with no capacity for directional hearing or vocalizing. In this paper we generalize our previous work in 2D, and show that the 3D case is not just a simple extension, but rather a fundamentally different inverse problem. While generically the 2D problem has a unique solution, in 3D uniqueness is always absent in rooms with fewer than nine walls. In addition to the complete characterization of ambiguities which arise due to this non-uniqueness, we propose a robust solution for inexact measurements similar to analogous results for Euclidean Distance Matrices. Our theoretical results have important consequences for the design of collocated range-only SLAM systems, and we support them with an array of computer experiments.Comment: 5 pages, 8 figures, submitted to ICASSP 201

    On the Human Role in Generative Art: A Case Study of AI-driven Live Coding

    The evolution of philosophical views on art is interwoven with trajectories of accelerating technological amelioration. In the emergence of generative algorithms there is a need for making sense of modern technologies that step in a realm previously reserved for humans – creativity. This paper aims to understand the role of the human in generative art by demystifying implications of black-box generative algorithms and their applications for artistic purposes. First, we shortly canvas the current state of practice and research in generative art, especially music. Then, we introduce Anastatica, a part performance, part installation built using data-driven generative live coding. Finally, we discuss implications of AI in art through a case study of Anastatica’s development and performance. We trace the path from algorithms to intelligence, applying musical and computer science theory to a practical case of generating a live coding musical performance, while focusing on aesthetic, compositional, conceptual, and phenomenological implications

    Primjena redno-stupčanog dizajna u oplemenjivanju bilja

    U Botincu je 2007. postavljen pokus s 20 sorata pšenice prema latiniziranom redno-stupčanom dizajnu u četiri repeticije na pokusnom polju Bc Instituta. U ovom diplomskom radu analizirani su podatci o sadržaju vlažnog lijepka primjenom osam različitih statističkih modela.Cilj primjene različitih modela u statističkoj analizi bio je procjena učinkovitosti pojedinih strukturnih elemenata dizajna, radi odabira najpogodnijeg modela. Na temelju rezultata moguće je zaključiti da najpogodniji model treba sadržavati stupce kao jedini dodani strukturni element u odnosu na osnovni model slučajnog bloknog rasporeda.In Botinec in 2007. an experiment was set up with 20 varieties of wheat under latinized row-column design in 4 repetitions on the experimental field of the Bc Institute. The data on the wet gluten content were analyzed by using eight different statistical models.The aim of the use of different models in statistical analysis was to estimate the efficiency of the different design structural elements, in order to select the most suitable model. According to the results, the most suitable model should contain columns as the sole added structural element to the base model of randomized complete block design

    Izazovi CSR 2.0 modela sastoje se u njegovoj implementaciji u poduzećima.Naime, CSR 2.0 model ima veći obuhvat, integriraniji pristup i traži proaktivnu strategiju u društvenoj odgovornosti i održivosti poduzeća.Implementacija CSR 2.0 modela dugotrajan je proces, koji ne završava već se kontinuirano i dugoročno mora primjenjivati, kako bi se zaista ostvarili ciljevi odgovornosti definirani modelom. Za implementaciju CSR 2.0 modela, potrebno je najprije uočiti nedostatke postojećeg modela društveno odgovornog poslovanja, zatim prepoznati ključne elemente CSR 2.0 modela i njegova načela, kako bi se poduzeće moglo orijentirati na CSR 2.0 u skladu s njegovim načelima.Nedostaci prvobitnog modela društvene odgovornosti ogledaju se u njegovoj perifernosti, inkrementalnosti i neekonomičnosti.Perifernost društveno odgovornog poslovanja znači da se DOP primjenjuje uglavnom u velikim poduzećima, u kojima se društvena odgovornost primjenjuje samo u određenim organizacijskim jedinicama, a nije integrirana u organizaciji kao cjelini. Inkrementanost društveno odgovornog poslovanja znači da je društvena odgovornost usvojena sukladno modelu upravljanja kvalitetom, što rezultira inkrementalnim promjenama kroz koje se nastoji utjecati na probleme koji nisu prioriteti. Neekonomičnost društveno odgovornog poslovanja odnosi se na neisplativost njegovog uvođenja, obzirom da u kratkom roku, tržišta i dalje nagrađuju poduzeća koja su eksternalizirala svoj trošak prema društvu

    La novelística de Camilo José Cela de los años 40 y 50 del siglo XX

    Ovaj rad analizira djela španjolskog pisca Camila Joséa Cele (1916-2002) iz perspektive poslijeratnog španjolskog konteksta. Naglasak je na šest romana objavljenih 40-tih i 50-tih godina XX stoljeća: La familia de Pascual Duarte (1942), Pabellón de reposo (1943), Nuevas andanzas y desventuras de Lazarillo de Tormes (1944), La colmena (1951), Mrs. Caldwell habla con su hijo (1953) i Historias de Venezuela: La catira (1955). Odabir ovih djela proizašao je iz zainteresiranosti za Celino književno stvaralaštvo, odnosno njegov specifičan način interpretacije moralno izmučenog poslijeratnog društva. Na temelju nekoliko proučenih aspekata djela, kao što su pripovjedna tehnika (tehnika filmske kamere), stilske karakteristike i psihološka obilježja glavnih likova (Pascual Duarte, Lazarillo de Tormes…) dobili smo uvid u specifičnosti književnih tendencija: tremendizam i socijalni realizam. Tako La familia de Pascual Duarte (1942) predstavlja tremendizam, a La colmena (1951) je predstavnik socijalnog realizma. Obrada navedenih djela ukazala nam je na važnost uloge koju je Camilo José Cela imao u književnom životu vremena u kojem je živio, prema tome možemo reći da ova analiza pojašnjava, osim obilježja i važnosti djela, također i njihovu povijesnu i izvanknjiževnu pozadinu.Este trabajo analiza las obras del autor español Camilo José Cela (1916-2002) desde la perspectiva del contexto de la posguerra española. El acento está sobre seis novelas publicadas en los años 40 y 50 del siglo XX.: La familia de Pascual Duarte (1942), Pabellón de reposo (1943), Nuevas andanzas y desventuras de Lazarillo de Tormes (1944), La colmena (1951), Mrs. Caldwell habla con su hijo (1953) y Historias de Venezuela: La catira (1955). La selección de estas novelas provino desde el interés por la creación literaria de Cela, es decir, por su manera específica de interpretar la sociedad moralmente torturada de posguerra. A base de ciertos aspectos novelísticos estudiados, como son la técnica narrativa (la técnica de la cámara fotográfica…), las características estilísticas y los rasgos psicológicos de los protagonistas (Pascual Duarte, Lazarillo de Tormes…) descubrimos especificidades de las tendencias literarias: el tremendismo y el realismo social. Asimismo La familia de Pascual Duarte (1942) representa el tremendismo, a La colmena (1951) es la representante del realismo social. El análisis de las novelas enumeradas nos indicó la importancia del papel que había tenido Camilo José Cela en la vida literaria de la época en la que había vivido, de esta manera podemos decir que este análisis aclara, aparte de los rasgos y la importancia de las novelas, incluso su fondo histórico y extraliterario

    THE RESPONSE OF ANTIOXIDANT ENZYMES TO ZINC TREATMENT IN THE SHOOTS AND ROOTS OF WHEAT SEEDLINGS

    Cink je važan mikronutrijent koji ima važnu ulogu u brojnim metaboličkim procesima u biljci, no pri većim koncentracijama je toksičan te može uzrokovati inhibiciju rasta i oksidacijski stres u brojnim biljnim vrstama. S ciljem istraživanja utjecaja cinka na antioksidacijski odgovor u korijenu i izdanku, mladi klijanci dviju sorti ozime pšenice (Divana i Srpanjka) tretirani su s dva različita izvora cinka (cinkov sulfat i cink-EDTA) tijekom sedam dana. Tretman cinkom nije značajno utjecao na klijavost obje sorte pšenice, dok je tretman cink-EDTA značajno povećao omjer mase korijena i izdanka kod sorte Srpanjka. Tretman cinkom uzrokovao je promjene u aktivnosti glutation-reduktaze, glutationperoksidaze i glutation-S-transferaze koje su bile uvjetovane sortom, vrstom biljnog organa i kemijskim oblikom cinkaZinc is an important micronutrient which has a role in numerous metabolic processes in the plant, but is toxic at higher concentrations and can cause inhibition of growth and oxidative stress in a range of plant species. With the aim of investigating the effects of zinc on the antioxidant response in the root and shoot, young seedlings of two varieties of winter wheat (Divana and Srpanjka) were treated with two different sources of zinc (zinc sulphate and zinc-EDTA) in the period of seven days. Zinc treatment had no significant effect on germination of both wheat varieties, while the zinc-EDTA treatment significantly increased the shoot to root ratio of the Srpanjka variety. Zinc treatment caused a significant changes in the activity of glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione S-transferase, which were determined by the wheat variety, the type of plant organ and the chemical form of zinc
