    Nondegenerate Four-Wave Mixing in a Dual-Mode Injection-Locked InAs/InP(100) Nanostructure Laser

    No full text
International audienceThe nondegenerate four-wave mixing (NDFWM) characteristics in a quantum-dot Fabry-Perot laser are investigated, employing the dual-mode injection-locking technique. The solitary laser features two lasing peaks, which provides the possibility for efficient FWM generation. Under optical injection, the NDFWM is operated up to a detuning range of 1.7 THz with a low injection ratio of 0.42. The normalized conversion efficiency (NCE) and the side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) with respect to the converted signal are analyzed. The highest NCE of 17 dB associated with a SMSR of 20.3 dB is achieved at detuning of 110 GHz

Home health care logistics planning: a review and framework

Home Health Care (HHC) is a growing industry in the medical services business, mainly in Europe and North America. These care services are provided at patients’ home by a multidisciplinary team using a distribution network. In this paper, an overview of the HHC services in Portugal and Brazil is presented. Additionally, a review is also presented to identify the main logistics problems associated with HHC services such as districting, routing and inventory management and the lack of integrated approaches to address them, as well as the best practices of management in the area. A framework is proposed to represent the main elements and characteristics of HHC services and their relationships. The framework suggests the use of a Decision Support System (DSS) based on optimization models and simulation approaches to overcome some of the main challenges associated to integrated approaches to address main problems, filling the gaps in the current literature. With the development of this DSS it will be possible to assist in the logistic planning of HHC teams, especially in countries like Brazil and Portugal. This work has been supported by CNPq (National Counsel of Technological and Scientific Development, Brazil) and COMPETE: POCI-01-0145-FEDER-007043 and FCT – Fundação para a CiĂȘncia e Tecnologia within the Project Scope: UID/CEC/00319/2013.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This thesis deals with the planning of care routes for home health care. Under the impulse of the various public health policies put in place in France, the demand for patients to receive their treatment in a familiar and safe environment has steadily increased. Revealing new organizational problems in home health care structures, our work focuses on optimizing care routes planning by considering medical, logistical and economic constraints. As a first step, we study the planning of home health care routes with a particular focus on time window and synchronization constraints. By relaxing these constraints, we bring more flexibility to problem modeling by individually defining the wishes of patients to receive their treatment in order to improve the quality of patient planning and patient satisfaction. In a second step, we integrate in our modeling the workload balancing of the caregivers. This aspect must not be neglected in order to obtain fairness and ensure the applicability of our planning. Subsequently, we study the problem in its multi-objective form. The prioritization of objectives may be confusing for the decision makers, we propose a memetic algorithm for multi-objective optimization in order to obtain a set of solutions representing various trade-offs between the objectives. Finally, the last part of this thesis focuses on the assignment of visits and caregivers to home health care centers in a multi-center configuration. The geographical dispersion of patients on the territory may lead to the opening of new centers, the assignment of caregivers to home health care centers is becoming a new aspect to optimize. For each problem, experiments are carried out in order to evaluate the quality of our solving methods on instances of the literature
