Teaching a Second Language and in a Second Language: Towards a new Spanish for Immigrants Teacher Training

La formación del profesorado de español como segunda lengua que se ofrece en el ámbito universitario debe asumir la actual situación intercultural que se refleja en las aulas de primaria y secundaria, y en general, en nuestra sociedad, a través de asignaturas específicas que aborden estos temas. En este artículo, partiendo de la distinción entre tres tipos de formación (inicial, permanente y especializada), me centro en la primera de ellas para mostrar en qué medida los planes de estudios están recogiendo esta inquietud por formar a futuros docentes capaces de enfrentarse a una enseñanza de la segunda lengua a alumnos no nativos.Para ello, presento primero una reflexión sobre la formación que se debería ofrecer, para detallar a continuación qué se está haciendo realmente en este sentido en las facultades, tanto en los estudios de grado como de posgrado. Las conclusiones son positivas, pero apuntan, no obstante, vías de mejora.Teacher training in Spanish as a Second Language offered in the university field must assume the current intercultural situation —reflected in primary and secondary school and, in general, in our society— through specific educational subjects dealing with this issue. In this article, starting from the distinction between initial, permanent and specialized teacher training, we focus on the first one, showing up to what extent the syllabus reflect the concern to train future teachers able to succesfully overcome the teaching of a second language. Thus, I present some thoughts about the training that should be offered. Then, I detail what the faculty is really doing in this sense, concerning the curricula both at the graduate and postgraduate studies. Althought the situation can improve, the paper concludes with positive outcomes and suggests some further trends for the future
