Global deformation on the surface of Venus

    Get PDF
Large-scale mapping of tectonic structures on Venus shows that there is an organized global distribution to deformation. The structures we emphasize are linear compressive mountain belts, extensional rafted zones, and the small-scale but widely distributed wrinkle ridges. Ninety percent of the area of the planet's compressive mountain belts are concentrated in the northern hemisphere whereas the southern hemisphere is dominated by extension and small-scale compression. We propose that this striking concentration of fold belts in the northern hemisphere, along with the globe-encircling equatorial rift system, represents a global organization to deformation on Venus

Controlling the dynamic percolation of carbon nanotube based conductive polymer composites by addition of secondary nanofillers: The effect on electrical conductivity and tuneable sensing behaviour

    Get PDF
In this paper, the electrical properties of ternary nanocomposites based on thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are studied. In particular two nanofillers - differing in shape and electrical properties - are used in conjunction with MWCNTs: an electrically conductive CB and an insulating needle-like nanoclay, sepiolite. The ternary nanocomposites were manufactured in a number of forms (extruded pellets, filaments and compression moulded films) and their morphological and electrical properties characterised as function of time and temperature. The presence of both secondary nanofillers is found to affect the formation of a percolating network of MWCNTs in TPU, inducing a reduced percolation threshold and tuneable strain sensing ability. These ternary nanocomposites can find application as conductive and multi-functional materials for flexible electronics, sensing films and fibres in smart textiles. (c) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Some historical exemplifications of the concept of crisis in canon law

    Get PDF
A reflection concerning the idea of crisis could be the framework of a general theory of Canon Law. The aim of this essay is to recognize at least three fundamental phases in the history of Christianity and in legal studies: the still not totally ascertained phenomenon of monasticism; the cyclical discussions about the existence of a juridical element in the mission of Roman-Catholic Church; the relevance of Christendom in the beginning and development of modern aesthetic sciences. The main thesis is that these theoretical issues have an important thread in common: a juridical definition of crisis and of what a crisis is and of what a crisis should be.Ciencias ReligiosasDerech

Emotional Brand Attachment: Marketing Strategies for Successful Generation

    Get PDF
Modern society is structured around consumption. The climate of the current consumer culture is one of intense competition. In order to differentiate their brands and products, companies are beginning to focus on differentiating their brands on the basis of distinctive emotional, rather than functional, characteristics. Emotional brand attachment is defined as the bond that connects a consumer with a specific brand by involving feelings of affection, passion, and connection. When established, emotional brand attachment is a powerful tool for building brand equity and influencing the purchasing decisions of consumers. This paper explores the marketing tactics utilized by Dove brand and Nike, Inc. Although the means were different, both companies successfully generated emotional brand attachment between their products and modern consumers

Giving Dentistry a Hand: Occupational Therapy MSD Prevention in Dentistry

    Get PDF
Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) pose a significant threat to the dental profession. There are many risk factors inherent in the tasks of dental professionals that could lead to MSDs. A literature review from professional literature, journal articles, and professional websites was used to determine the various risk factors and types of MSDs that occur in the dental profession; best practices in MSD prevention in the dental field; and the role of occupational therapy ergonomic intervention in the dental field. The information has a solid foundation in Malcolm Knowles\u27 theory of Andragogy. To gather real life information, visits to a dental office were completed by the author, an occupational therapist. A job analysis was conducted with a dentist and other dental professionals were observed and questioned regarding their knowledge of ergonomics. Based upon the compilation of information obtained from all sources Giving Dentistry a Hand: Occupational Therapy MSD Prevention in Dentistry was developed. Primary risk factors identified include 1) awkward positioning that dental professional use to see within the oral cavity of clients; 2) static sitting postures for most work tasks; and 3) fine, repetitive movements that require a constant pinch and force while holding small tools. The limited quantity and quality of ergonomic education, by qualified ergonomic trainers, during the initial schooling of dental professionals was identified as a primary concern. Best practices for MSD prevention in the dental field include ergonomic evaluations, stretching programs, and ergonomic education. Occupational therapists have the skills and experience for successful intervention in the prevention of MSDs in the dental profession. Giving Dentistry a Hand: Occupational Therapy MSD Prevention in Dentistry is a tool that occupational therapists can use to educate themselves on job-related issues of the dental profession and plan an outstanding professional development workshop that focuses on key issues in the dental profession. This product consists of an educational article and a professional development workshop. Both the article and the professional development workshop are intended to be implemented by occupational therapists who are interested in preventing musculoskeletal disorders within the dental profession

Enhanced transmission through a subwavelength aperture using metamaterials

    Get PDF
We report an enhanced transmission through a single circular subwavelength aperture that is incorporated with a split ring resonator (SRR) at the microwave regime. Transmission enhancement factors as high as 530 were observed in the experiments when the SRR was located in front of the aperture in order to efficiently couple the electric field component of the incident electromagnetic wave at SRR's electrical resonance frequency. The experimental results were supported by numerical analyses. The physical origin of the transmission enhancement phenomenon was discussed by examining the induced surface currents on the structures

Dominantni mod gustoće struje na spiralnoj patch anteni

An elegant and efficient way to calculate and analytically show the main features of spiral patch antennas is presented in this paper. The derivation of an approximate analytical expression for the dominant current density mode on the patch is initially presented, from which it can be easily calculated the patch radiation pattern. Its invariance with frequency scaling, which is the main feature of such log-periodic antennas, is in particular shown, together with a good congruency with experimental results. An extension to higher-order modes for a MoM analysis of the current density is then suggested, which may be useful to study with higher accuracy the other antenna characteristics, such as gain and input impedance at the feed.U radu je prikazan privlačan i djelotvoran pristup proračunu i analitičkom prikazu spiralnih patch antena.
