http://dx.doi.org/10.5902/223658345918 In this article, we sought to assess the prevalence of hepatitis C (HCV) as well as some socio-demographic characteristics of HCV-positive blood donors of the center of Alagoas. The medical records of donors from a blood center in Alagoas were analyzed. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used for detection of antibodies against HCV, within the period from 2001 to 2004. Samples with positive serology by ELISA were analyzed through the confirmatory RIBA test. 45,832 donations were collected at the blood center. Out of them, 0.62% had positive serology for hepatitis C. With regard to the variables, there was a prevalence of 86.7% for males, with ages ranging from 31 to 40 years. Only 201 people returned to repeat ELISA. Out of these, 42.3% had repeated positive serology by ELISA. For confirmation by RIBA, only 97 donors returned: 55.4% were positive, 15.7% negative, and 9.1% indeterminate. The studies show the need for more specific serological screening tests

This text's goal is to problematize curricular practices and teaching practice based on studies carried out in the Curricular Innovations and Didactics subject, in the school Education Post-Graduation Program in a Federal Univeristy located in a nothern region in Brazil. It has a theoretical basis in scholars in the curriculum field with Veiga-Neto, Ivor Goodson, Marluce Paraíso and Sônia Clareto. The fictional dialogues of game scenes, inspired by Jacques Derrida's (1971) desconstructionist therapy and Ludwig Wittgenstein's (1999) language games, show the potency of curricular teaching practices from other ways that allow re(thinking) univocal patterns established and consolidated in school education. Administration of a histone deacetylase inhibitor into the basolateral amygdala enhances memory consolidation, delays extinction, and increases hippocampal BDNF levels

Gene expression related to the formation and modification of memories is regulated epigenetically by chromatin remodeling through histone acetylation. Memory formation and extinction can be enhanced by treatment with inhibitors of histone deacetylases (HDACs). The basolateral amygdala (BLA) is a brain area critically involved in regulating memory for inhibitory avoidance (IA). However, previous studies have not examined the effects of HDAC inhibition in the amygdala on memory for IA. Here we show that infusion of an HDAC inhibitor (HDACi), trichostatin A (TSA), into the BLA, enhanced consolidation of IA memory in rats when given at 1.5, 3, or 6 h posttraining, but not when the drug was infused immediately after training. In addition, intra-BLA administration of TSA immediately after retrieval delayed extinction learning. Moreover, we show that intra-BLA TSA in rats given IA training increased the levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor in the dorsal hippocampus, but not in the BLA itself. These findings reveal novel aspects of the regulation of fear memory by epigenetic mechanisms in the amygdala

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the periodontal status of interproximal surfaces restored with composite resin, in comparison with non-restored interproximal surfaces. Methods: In 65 patients, we analyzed 145 restored surfaces and 145 non-restored surfaces. Results: Most of the restored surfaces (54.3%) showed radiographic alterations, which was shown to be higher among restorations with clinically detected proximal excess (56.8% x 52.8%); with lack of restorative material (64.5% x 51.4%); in restorations with proximal overhang (67.7% x 44.4%); in teeth with gingival inflammation?/bleeding (55.1% x 40.0%) and in teeth with probing depth exceeding 3 mm (64.3% x 52.9%). However, there were no significant associations for these variables. Of the non-restored surfaces, 24.4% showed radiographic alterations, however there were no significant associations. Conclusion: The results showed a statistical significance for radiographic alterations in restored and non-restored surfaces

Introduction: Overweight has been reported as a public health problem. Consequently, this suggests epidemiological studies for nutritional surveillance. Objective:  To analyze the prevalence and factors associated with overweight among high school students in Capital of the Brazilian Western Amazon. Methods: cross-sectional study of 2694 adolescents from public and private schools. They collected demographic, socioeconomic and sedentary behavior through self-responded questionnaire. Overweight rating followed the recommendations of the World Health Organization (2007). The prevalence rates were calculated, odds ratio and their confidence intervals were calculated at 95%. They identified the factors associated with excess weight by multiple binary logistic regression. Results: The overall prevalence of overweight was 24.2% and 26.3% for males and 22.4% for females. After adjustment factors associated with overweight were economic class A / B (OR = 1.30, 95% CI 1.02 to 1.45), private school type (OR = 1.21, 95% CI 1,02-1.46) and poor health perception (OR = 1.27, 95% CI 1.03 to 1.58). It was concluded that excess weight showed high prevalence in economy class adolescents and B and private schools in Porto Velho, RO, Brazil. Conclusion: Therefore, the practice of physical activity associated with a diet should be encouraged, in addition to reducing sedentary behavior, to prevent the development of overweight and obesity

The work relationship within society shows itself as a fundamental element by means of which man is structured psychologically and may result in pleasure and/or suffering, which is an object of study for the psychodynamics of work. In this field, a gap is noticed in exploring the pleasure-suffering dialectic within the academic scenario regarding the comparison between master’s and doctoral students. This study aims to understand the subjectivity in the pleasure and suffering relationships of administration masters’ and doctoral students with their academic work. For this, focused interviews were carried out and then coded and analyzed qualitatively by means of content analysis. As a result, the masters’ students were observed to point at the feeling of displeasure as the source of suffering and at professional growth as the source of pleasure. Doctoral students, in turn, also indicated displeasure as the source of suffering, but interpersonal relationships at work stood out as the source of pleasure
