Allelic variation observed at one microsatellite locus between the two synonym grape cultivars Black Currant and Mavri Corinthiaki
Research NoteBlack Currant and Mavri Corinthiaki are considered synonyms for Corinthe Noir, a parthenocarpic seedless raisin cultivar. No differences between them were found by RAPD analysis with 1 1 primers. They also have the same genotype in 15 out of 16 microsatellite loci, demonstrating the Black Currant and Mavri Corinthiaki are essentially identical. Nevertheless, a difference was observed in one allele at one locus (VVMD7): the Black Currant genotype is 240:246 while the Mavri Corinthiaki genotype is 240:248. A mutation in the microsatellite sequence might be responsible for that difference. Possible consequences of such mutations are discussed
Strong covalent bonding between two graphene layers
We show that two graphene layers stacked directly on top of each other (AA
stacking) form strong chemical bonds when the distance between planes is 0.156
nm. Simultaneously, C-C in-plane bonds are considerably weakened from partial
double-bond (0.141 nm) to single bond (0.154 nm). This polymorphic form of
graphene bilayer is meta-stable w.r.t. the one bound by van der Waals forces at
a larger separation (0.335 nm) with an activation energy of 0.16 eV/cell.
Similarly to the structure found in hexaprismane, C forms four single bonds in
a geometry mixing 90^{0} and 120^{0} angles. Intermediate separations between
layers can be stabilized under external anisotropic stresses showing a rich
electronic structure changing from semimetal at van der Waals distance, to
metal when compressed, to wide gap semiconductor at the meta-stable minimum.Comment: tar gzip latex 4 pages 4 figure
Hierarchical Triggering of Star Formation by Superbubbles in W3/W4
It is generally believed that expanding superbubbles and mechanical feedback
from massive stars trigger star formation, because there are numerous examples
of superbubbles showing secondary star formation at their edges. However, while
these systems show an age sequence, they do not provide strong evidence of a
causal relationship. The W3/W4 Galactic star-forming complex suggests a
three-generation hierarchy: the supergiant shell structures correspond to the
oldest generation; these triggered the formation of IC 1795 in W3, the
progenitor of a molecular superbubble; which in turn triggered the current
star-forming episodes in the embedded regions W3-North, W3-Main, and W3-OH. We
present UBV photometry and spectroscopic classifications for IC 1795, which
show an age of 3 - 5 Myr. This age is intermediate between the reported 6 - 20
Myr age of the supergiant shell system, and the extremely young ages (10^4 -
10^5 yr) for the embedded knots of ultracompact HII regions, W3-North, W3-Main,
and W3-OH. Thus, an age sequence is indeed confirmed for the entire W3/W4
hierarchical system. This therefore provides some of the first convincing
evidence that superbubble action and mechanical feedback are indeed a

Calabi-Yau cones from contact reduction
We consider a generalization of Einstein-Sasaki manifolds, which we
characterize in terms both of spinors and differential forms, that in the real
analytic case corresponds to contact manifolds whose symplectic cone is
Calabi-Yau. We construct solvable examples in seven dimensions. Then, we
consider circle actions that preserve the structure, and determine conditions
for the contact reduction to carry an induced structure of the same type. We
apply this construction to obtain a new hypo-contact structure on S^2\times

Ballistic Electron Emission Microscopy on CoSi/Si(111) interfaces: band structure induced atomic-scale resolution and role of localized surface states
Applying a Keldysh Green`s function method it is shown that hot electrons
injected from a STM-tip into a CoSi/Si(111) system form a highly focused
beam due to the silicide band structure. This explains the atomic resolution
obtained in recent Ballistic Electron Emission Microscopy (BEEM) experiments.
Localized surface states in the -reconstruction are found to be
responsible for the also reported anticorrugation of the BEEM current. These
results clearly demonstrate the importance of bulk and surface band structure

Evidence for phase formation in potassium intercalated 1,2;8,9-dibenzopentacene
We have prepared potassium intercalated 1,2;8,9-dibenzopentacene films under
vacuum conditions. The evolution of the electronic excitation spectra upon
potassium addition as measured using electron energy-loss spectroscopy clearly
indicate the formation of particular doped phases with compositions
Kdibenzopentacene ( = 1,2,3). Moreover, the stability of these phases as
a function of temperature has been explored. Finally, the electronic excitation
spectra also give insight into the electronic ground state of the potassium

Corporate governance compliance and disclosure in the banking sector: using data from Japan
Using regression model this study investigates which characteristics of a bank is associated with the extent of corporate governance disclosure in Japan. The findings suggest that on average 8 banks out of a sample of 46 disclose optimal corporate governance information. The regression model results reveal in general that non-executive directors, cross-ownership, capital adequacy ratio and type of auditors are associated with the extent of corporate governance disclosure. Of these four variables, non-executive directors have a more significant impact on the extent of disclosure contrary to total assets and audit firms of banks in the context of Japan. The findings of this paper are relevant for corporate regulators, professional associations and developers of corporate governance code when designing or updating corporate governance code
Spinning particles in the vacuum C metric
The motion of a spinning test particle given by the Mathisson-Papapetrou
equations is studied on an exterior vacuum C metric background spacetime
describing the accelerated motion of a spherically symmetric gravitational
source. We consider circular orbits of the particle around the direction of
acceleration of the source. The symmetries of this configuration lead to the
reduction of the differential equations of motion to algebraic relations. The
spin supplementary conditions as well as the coupling between the spin of the
