Risk management in solitary agricultural work: new technologies for handling emergency and falls from great heights (SHADE)
Solitary work and agricultural activities are the scenarios of a large number of severe injuries and deaths, also because first aid may be difficult to achieve in isolated locations. This work proposes a technology available on smartphones that allows triggering an emergency call when a fall from height or an unconsciousness state is detected. The results of several tests, which include different detection algorithms and scenarios, are reported in this work. Tests performed with the aid of a dummy have allowed developing a reliable algorithm for the detection of dangerous situations. This system is available as an Android application

Quasi-elastic and inelastic inclusive electron scattering from an oxygen jet target
The results of an experiment on inclusive electron scattering from an oxygen
jet target, performed in a wide range of energy and momentum transfer covering
both quasi-elastic and (1232) resonance regions, are reported. In the
former region the theoretical predictions, obtained including effects of
nucleon-nucleon correlations in both initial and final states, give a good
description of the experimental data. In the inelastic region a broadening as
well as a damping of the resonant part of the cross section with respect to the
free nucleon case is observed. The need of more detailed calculations including
nuclear structure effects on the electroproduction cross section of nucleon
resonances is highlighted.Comment: to appear in Nucl. Phys.
Precise Measurement of Sigma Beam Asymmetry for Positive Pion Photoproduction on the Proton from 800 to 1500 Mev
The Sigma beam asymmetry for positive pion photoproduction on the proton has
been measured over an angular range of 40-170 deg at photon energies from 0.8
to 1.5 GeV. The resulting data set includes 237 accurate points, 136 of these
belonging to an almost unexplored domain above 1.05 GeV. Data of such high
precision provide severe constraints for partial wave analyses. The influence
of this experiment on the GW multipole analysis is demonstrated. Significant
changes are found in multipoles connected to the S31(1620) and P13(1720)
resonances. Comparisons using the MAID analysis are also presented.Comment: 11 pages, 4 eps figures. to be published in Physics Letters
Differential cross section measurement of eta photoproduction on the proton from threshold to 1100 MeV
The differential cross section for the reaction p(gamma, eta p) has been
measured from threshold to 1100 MeV photon laboratory energy. For the first
time, the region of the S11(1535) resonance is fully covered in a
photoproduction experiment and allows a precise extraction of its parameters at
the photon point. Above 1000 MeV, S-wave dominance vanishes while a P-wave
contribution is observed whose nature will have to be clarified. These high
precision data together with the already measured beam asymmetry data will
provide stringent constraints on the extraction of new couplings of baryon
resonances to the eta meson.Comment: 10 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Phys. Letters B. Typos corrected.
Some more information on the S11(1535) parameter
Bremsstrahlung Suppression due to the LPM and Dielectric Effects in a Variety of Materials
The cross section for bremsstrahlung from highly relativistic particles is
suppressed due to interference caused by multiple scattering in dense media,
and due to photon interactions with the electrons in all materials. We present
here a detailed study of bremsstrahlung production of 200 keV to 500 MeV
photons from 8 and 25 GeV electrons traversing a variety of target materials.
For most targets, we observe the expected suppressions to a good accuracy. We
observe that finite thickness effects are important for thin targets.Comment: 52 pages, 13 figures (incorporated in the revtex LaTeX file
Quantum tunneling of the excited rotational bands in the superdeformed nucleus 143Eu
The properties of the thermally excited rotational motion up to the region of rotational damping are studied experimentally in the superdeformed nucleus 143 Eu. The effective lifetime of the excited discrete rotational bands forming ridge structures in â matrices is measured at the EUROBALL array using the DSAM technique, giving a quadrupole momentQt 10 e b, consistent with the deformation of the superdeformed yrast band. In addition, the effective number of excited superdeformed bands is extracted by a statistical analysis of the ridge structure, for transition energies down to the region where the effect of the decay-out into the normal deformed well shows up. The experimental data are compared with microscopic cranked shell model calculations including a residual interaction of surface delta type. Satisfactory agreement between data and theory is obtained when the quantum tunneling of the excited superdeformed states is included in the model. © 2001 Published by Elsevier Science B.V
Effect of E1 decay in the population of superdeformed structures
Abstract Spectra of the yrast and excited superdeformed bands, forming the E2 quasi-continuum, are measured with the EUROBALL array for the nucleus 143 Eu, in coincidence with high-energy Îł-rays (EÎł>3 MeV). It is found that the intensity population of the superdeformed states is enhanced by a factor of â1.6 when a coincidence with a Îł-ray with energy >6 MeV is required, in reasonable agreement with the increase of the line shape of the Giant Dipole Resonance built on a superdeformed configuration. This result shows that when an high energy E1 Îł-ray is involved in the decay it is more likely connected with a SD rather than a ND nucleus. In addition, the analysis of the rotational quasi-continuum suggests the presence of a superdeformed component. The data are also compared and found consistent with simulation calculations of the relative intensities of the SD states, including the E1 decay of superdeformed nature
Population of neutron-rich nuclei around 48ca with deep inelastic collisions
The deep inelastic reaction 48Ca+64Ni at 6 MeV/A has been studied using the CLARAâPRISMA setup. Angular distributions for pure elastic scattering and total cross-sections of the most relevant transfer channels have been measured. The experimental results are compared with predictions from a semiclassical model, showing good agreement for the presently analyzed few neutrons transfer channels. The decay of the most intense reaction products has also been studied, giving indications of the population of states with very short lifetimes.Gadea Raga, AndrĂ©s, [email protected]
Population and y-decay studies of neutron-rich nuclei around 48Ca with deep inelastic collisions
The population and -decay of n-rich nuclei around 48Ca has been measured with the PRISMA-CLARA setup using deep-inelastic collisions (DIC) on 64Ni, at energies ~2.5 times above the Coulomb barrier. After a careful analysis of the response of the PRISMA magnetic spectrometer, a detailed investigation of the reaction properties is carried out. This provides total cross sections and energy integrated angular distributions of the most relevant transfer channels, which are compared with predictions from a semiclassical multi-nucleon transfer model. Good agreement is found for the 0p, 1p and 1n channels. In few cases, angular distributions of the first excited states are also measured and the experimental results are interpreted in terms of DWBA calculations, providing information on the basic ingredients of the theoretical models
