    Neuroinflammation & Mood Disorders

The world of mental health treatment is evolving as more information is discovered about its multifaceted pathophysiology. This poster takes a glimpse at one of these factors: the role of neuroinflammation in mood disorders. Above normal levels of inflammation are found in patient’s suffering from depression and bipolar disorder. Elevated inflammation has significant negative effects on the brain that as a result cause dysregulation in mood. Mental health treatments that have been found to effectively address neuroinflammation include nutritional and exercise interventions. The progression of neuroinflammation research in mood disorders gives a positive outlook for patient outcomes as individuals continue to seek evidence-based treatments that are effective for their unique symptomology

“The search for security remains the overriding concern for many peoples and nations. But the definition of what constitutes security, and the strategies for attaining it, vary greatly. For billions of people, the question is to ´secure´ basic needs: food, water, shelter and health care. For others, it is to ´secure´ other fundamental human rights: freedom of expression, freedom from oppression, freedom from fear. Even among States, security has different definitions. For some, it is the achievement of economic or military parity or superiority, for others the projection of power and influence, and for still others the resolution of grievances and disputes” (Elbaradei, 2007).

Presented at Electronic Resources & Libraries 2020 in Austin, TX.The uncertainty of the future of the academic library casts a long shadow on today’s library operations. This session will discuss the important distinction between talent and HR, and the need to recast a vision of future-proofing our organizations under unprecedented budgetary and environmental constraints

Mitochondrial genes and their expression in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

The more traditional interest in mitochondria as energy conserving organelles has in recent years been rivalled by studies related to membrane biogenesis. An extensive literature has shown that mitochondria are semi-autonomous with a system for the expression of their own genome in pleiotropy with nuclear genes and cytoplasmic protein synthesis. The presence of cytoplasmic genes in mitochondria provides a physical basis for the long observed phenomenon of maternal inheritance or "non-Mendelian" genetics, (1) in which the cytoplasmic phenotype is derived from the maternal parent only. This has been demonstrated in fungi, (2) amphibians, (3) and, more recently, in mammals (4, 5). The synthesis of mitochondrial membranes from pre-existing structures, as opposed to de novo synthesis, is in accordance with the partial genetic autonomy of these organelles. (6, 7). To this end, mitochondria possess DNA, RNA and a protein synthesis system

It took quite a long time for the poem `The Seasons” by Kristijonas Donelaitis to have a full translation in Latvian – up to the second half of the 20th century. The first translation – some fragments of the poem – were made by a pastor in Kurzeme, Carl Friedrich Watson, and published in the twenties of the 19th century. The first thorough publication about K. Donelaitis himself was written by Andrejs Dīriķis (in 1874) who regularly covered Lithuanian culture in Latvian press in the seventies and eighties of the 19th century. The translation of “The Seasons” made by the Latvian poet Rainis in the eighties of the 19th century unfortunately has not survived. In the thirties and forties of the 20th century the translation of the poem was initiated by the writer and promoter of Latvian – Lithuanian cultural ties Emīls Skujenieks. In 1963 and 2006 two different versions of translation made by the poet Paulis Kalva were published. The recent publications of comparative literary studines give us evidence, that further research of the translations in Latvian of the Donelaitis poem, especially using new sources, is rather promising.

The production of building stones shown an exponential growth in last decades as consequences of the demand and developments in the extraction and processing techniques. From the several conditioning factors affecting this industry, the geological constrains at quarry scale stands out as one of most important. Globalization and increasing competition in the building stone market require large raw material blocks to keep further processing as cost-effective as possible. Therefore, the potential extraction volume of in-situ stone blocks plays an important role in the yield of a dimensional stone quarry. The full characterization of the fracturing in the quarries comes up as fundamental in the assessment of the in-situ blocks volume/shape and potential extracted raw blocks. Identify the joint sets present, their spacing and the differences across the quarry demands a continuous assess during the quarry live span. Information from unmanned aerial vehicles helps in the field survey, namely trough digital surface models, orthophotos, and three-dimensional models. Also, the fracturing modelling by specific software programs is crucial to improve the block size assessment and the increase the quarry yield. In this research fracturing of twenty-one quarries of granite, limestone, marble, and slate from Portugal were assessed by combining field surveys with new techniques. From the studied quarries several cases were selected and presented to highlight the importance of this combined methodology in the fracturing assessment and how they can be helpful in the maximization of the resources and quarry management

All students need a safe and nurturing environment to receive a quality education. Principals should treat students as individuals judged by their character and learning style as well as their capabilities. To be an effective administrator and to establish a strong foundation, the principles of the Iowa Standards for School Leaders (ISSL) are used as guides. I will discuss each of the ISSL principles and explain how they influence my philosophy of educational leadership
