    Human exploitation is one of the most noncompliant and unacceptable invasion of human rights. Even though generally developed countries are interested in the effects on their own political and economical scheme, actually socio-psychological conditions of victims should be considered regarding the human exploitation. These people who are forced to be in a totally different environment are having a difficulty of integration. Integration and rehabilitation will be effective if applied in all areas with many extensions. In this paper, human exploitation in working places and human resources policies and strategies which would make the integration period shorter for refugee employees

    The Effect of corporate reputation management as a competition tool on tourism businesses

    Abstract The enterprises should be created differences such as; to be able to sustain their entity in the face of competitor, to have position in the sector, to present value in the products and services that have been offered for ensuring profit and to be reliability and honesty. The corporate reputation has been considered as a competition tool that can be revealed these differences. This study aims to put forth the effects of corporate reputation management in the hotel businesses. Managers\u27 idea, working in the hotel businesses in Turkey, about reputation management has been determined and asked them to make suggestions. In this research has been found suggestions in relation to using statue of reputation as a difference maker and competition tool, in the enterprises which own it. In addition corporate reputation, as a concrete element, regarding to determining of business’ situation in the market has been evaluated. In this study had been tried to reach to all hotel managers from middle and upper level in Turkey. It has been asked from managers to fill the questionnaire had been sent to their e-mail addresses which gained from different sources. Online questionnaire had been carried out in this paper. Corporate reputation was revealed as efficient value in the matter of; becoming as a more important phenomenon for enterprises, ensuring customer loyalty, increasing prolificacy and having qualified personnel. Enterprises which have corporate reputation will be one step ahead in the relation to the competitor. It is concerned different values for reputation formation. Especially in the tourism sector service quality is among the most effective values. The importance of human labor on ensuring customer satisfaction in this sector is an undeniable fact. Gaining and retaining of qualified personnel by the business will have been providing through a strong corporate reputation

    Circulating irisin levels in newly diagnosed obstructive sleep apnea patients

    Introduction: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is commonly associated with obesity, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, hypertension, and coronary artery disease. Irisin is a newly identified myokine and its serum concentration was found to be correlated with cardiac troponin and creatin kinase-MB in acute myocardial infarction patients. Furthermore, irisin levels were positively associated with endothelium-dependent vasodilation in type 2 diabetic patients.Aim: In this study, we aimed to investigate serum irisin level in the newly diagnosed OSAS patients.Materials and Methods: After obtaining ethical approval, 32 OSAS patients were included. All patients gave written informed consent. Diagnosis of OSAS was verified by an overnight polysomnography (PSG) and made by an apnea hypopnea index equal to or higher than 5. Venous blood samples were collected in the morning between 08.00 – 10.00 after PSG (n=25) or after one-night CPAP treatment (n=7). Serum irisin concentrations were studied by ELISA.Results and Conclusion: Serum irisin concentrations were significantly higher in newly diagnosed OSAS group than in OSAS group after one night of CPAP treatment (199.7±42.4 vs 159.7±18.3 ng/mL respectively; p<0.01). These results suggest that increased serum irisin levels can be reduced by CPAP treatment and elevated serum irisin levels may be due to increased respiratory muscle activity and body temperature.

    A nationwide multicentre study in Turkey for establishing reference intervals of haematological parameters with novel use of a panel of whole blood

    IntroductionA nationwide multicentre study was conducted to establish well-defined reference intervals (RIs) of haematological parameters for the Turkish population in consideration of sources of variation in reference values (RVs). Materials and methodsK2-EDTA whole blood samples (total of 3363) were collected from 12 laboratories. Sera were also collected for measurements of iron, UIBC, TIBC, and ferritin for use in the latent abnormal values exclusion (LAVE) method. The blood samples were analysed within 2 hours in each laboratory using Cell Dyn and Ruby (Abbott), LH780 (Beckman Coulter), or XT-2000i (Sysmex). A panel of freshly prepared blood from 40 healthy volunteers was measured in common to assess any analyser-dependent bias in the measurements. The SD ratio (SDR) based on ANOVA was used to judge the need for partitioning RVs. RIs were computed by the parametric method with/without applying the LAVE method. ResultsAnalyser-dependent bias was found for basophils (Bas), MCHC, RDW and MPV from the panel test results and thus those RIs were derived for each manufacturer. RIs were determined from all volunteers’ results for WBC, neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, MCV, MCH and platelets. Gender-specific RIs were required for RBC, haemoglobin, haematocrit, iron, UIBC and ferritin. Region-specific RIs were required for RBC, haemoglobin, haematocrit, UIBC, and TIBC. ConclusionsWith the novel use of a freshly prepared blood panel, manufacturer-specific RIs’ were derived for Bas, Bas%, MCHC, RDW and MPV. Regional differences in RIs were observed among the 7 regions of Turkey, which may be attributed to nutritional or environmental factors, including altitude

    The role of leptin in the respiratory system: an overview

    Since its cloning in 1994, leptin has emerged in the literature as a pleiotropic hormone whose actions extend from immune system homeostasis to reproduction and angiogenesis. Recent investigations have identified the lung as a leptin responsive and producing organ, while extensive research has been published concerning the role of leptin in the respiratory system. Animal studies have provided evidence indicating that leptin is a stimulant of ventilation, whereas researchers have proposed an important role for leptin in lung maturation and development. Studies further suggest a significant impact of leptin on specific respiratory diseases, including obstructive sleep apnoea-hypopnoea syndrome, asthma, COPD and lung cancer. However, as new investigations are under way, the picture is becoming more complex. The scope of this review is to decode the existing data concerning the actions of leptin in the lung and provide a detailed description of leptin's involvement in the most common disorders of the respiratory system

    Due to the advantages of plastic materials, during the last decade their use has increased greatly, both in areas of application and in actual quantities employed. Because it is impossible to avoid plastic consumption, which parallels the development of new technology, realistic solutions have to be searched for the problems arising from the growing use of plastics. That is, recycling methods and ways of evaluating these recycled materials must be found. In addition, recycling refused plastic materials is an essential part of national economy. It is known that the mechanical properties of original materials are different from those of the corresponding recycled materials. However, it is possible to find an optimum point which can be determined by experimentation. In this study, the possibility of recycling and using recycled refuse low-density polyethylene (LDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) (which make up 45% of the plastic production in the world) have been researched in relation to their tensile strength exchange ratio. © 2007 Elsevier Ltd.
