    Poly[[dodeca­aqua­(μ4-benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl­ato)(μ2-4,4′-bipyridine-κ2 N:N′)dicerium(III)] bis­(benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl­ate)]

    The asymmetric unit of the title compound, {[Ce2(C8H4O4)(C10H8N2)(H2O)12](C8H4O4)2}n, consists of half a CeIII cation, a quarter of a coordinated benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl­ate (bdc2−) dianion, a quarter of a 4,4′-bipyridine (bpy) mol­ecule, three water mol­ecules and a half of an uncoordinated benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl­ate dianion. The CeIII ion is located on a twofold rotation axis and exhibits a distorted trigonal prism square-face tricapped coordination geometry. The coordinated and uncoordinated bdc2− ions and the bpy mol­ecule lie about special positions of site symmetries 2/m, m and 2/m, respectively. The CeIII ions are bridged by the bdc2− and bpy ligands, giving a sheet structure parallel to the ac plane. The uncoordinated bdc2− dianion exists between the sheets and links the sheets by inter­molecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the uncoordinated bdc2− and coordinated water mol­ecules. A π–π stacking inter­action between the uncoordinated bdc2− dianion and the bpy ligand [centroid–centroid distance = 3.750 (4) Å] is also observed

    A Validation Study of the Japanese Version of the Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination-Revised

    The aim of this study was to validate the Japanese version of the Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination-Revised (ACE-R) [Mori: Japanese Edition of Hodges JR's Cognitive Assessment for Clinicians, 2010] designed to detect dementia, and to compare its diagnostic accuracy with that of the Mini-Mental State Examination. The ACE-R was administered to 85 healthy individuals and 126 patients with dementia. The reliability assessment revealed a strong correlation in both groups. The internal consistency was excellent (α-coefficient = 0.88). Correlation with the Clinical Dementia Rating sum of boxes score was significant (rs = −0.61, p < 0.001). The area under the curve was 0.98 for the ACE-R and 0.96 for the Mini-Mental State Examination. The cut-off score of 80 showed a sensitivity of 94% and a specificity of 94%. Like the original ACE-R and the versions designed for other languages, the Japanese version of the ACE-R is a reliable and valid test for the detection of dementia

    Exploration of glassy state in Prussian blue analogues

    Prussian blue analogues (PBAs) are archetypes of microporous coordination polymers/metal–organic frameworks whose versatile composition allows for diverse functionalities. However, developments in PBAs have centred solely on their crystalline state, and the glassy state of PBAs has not been explored. Here we describe the preparation of the glassy state of PBAs via a mechanically induced crystal-to-glass transformation and explore their properties. The preservation of short-range metal–ligand–metal connectivity is confirmed, enabling the framework-based functionality and semiconductivity in the glass. The transformation also generates unconventional CN(−) vacancies, followed by the reduction of metal sites. This leads to significant porosity enhancement in recrystallised PBA, enabled by further accessibility of isolated micropores. Finally, mechanical stability under stress for successful vitrification is correlated to defect contents and interstitial water. Our results demonstrate how mechanochemistry provides opportunities to explore glassy states of molecular framework materials in which the stable liquid state is absent

    JASMINE: Near-infrared astrometry and time-series photometry science

    The Japan Astrometry Satellite Mission for INfrared Exploration (JASMINE) is a planned M-class science space mission by the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. JASMINE has two main science goals. One is Galactic archaeology with a Galactic Center survey, which aims to reveal the Milky Way’s central core structure and formation history from Gaia-level (∼25 μ{\mu} as) astrometry in the near-infrared (NIR) Hw band (1.0–1.6 μ{\mu} m). The other is an exoplanet survey, which aims to discover transiting Earth-like exoplanets in the habitable zone from NIR time-series photometry of M dwarfs when the Galactic Center is not accessible. We introduce the mission, review many science objectives, and present the instrument concept. JASMINE will be the first dedicated NIR astrometry space mission and provide precise astrometric information on the stars in the Galactic Center, taking advantage of the significantly lower extinction in the NIR. The precise astrometry is obtained by taking many short-exposure images. Hence, the JASMINE Galactic Center survey data will be valuable for studies of exoplanet transits, asteroseismology, variable stars, and microlensing studies, including discovery of (intermediate-mass) black holes. We highlight a swath of such potential science, and also describe synergies with other missions
