One-Step Ligand-Exchange Method to Produce Quantum Dot–DNA Conjugates for DNA-Directed Self-Assembly
To address the current challenges in making bright, stable, and small DNA-functionalized quantum dots (QDs), we have developed a one-step ligand-exchange method to produce QD-DNA conjugates from commonly available hydrophobic QDs. We show that by systematically adjusting the reaction conditions such as ligand-to-nanoparticle molar ratio, pH, and solvent composition, stable and highly photoluminescent water-soluble QD-DNA conjugates with relatively high ligand loadings can be produced. Moreover, by site specifically binding these QD-DNA conjugates to a DNA origami template, we demonstrate that these bioconjugates have sufficient colloidal stability for DNA-directed self-assembly. Fluorescence quenching by an adjacent gold nanoparticle (AuNP) was demonstrated. Such QD-AuNP dimers may serve as biosensors with improved sensitivity and reproducibility. Moreover, our simple method can facilitate the assembly of QDs into more complex superlattices and discrete clusters that may enable novel photophysical properties
Single Electrons from Heavy Flavor Decays in p+p Collisions at sqrt(s) = 200 GeV
The invariant differential cross section for inclusive electron production in
p+p collisions at sqrt(s) = 200 GeV has been measured by the PHENIX experiment
at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider over the transverse momentum range $0.4
<= p_T <= 5.0 GeV/c at midrapidity (eta <= 0.35). The contribution to the
inclusive electron spectrum from semileptonic decays of hadrons carrying heavy
flavor, i.e. charm quarks or, at high p_T, bottom quarks, is determined via
three independent methods. The resulting electron spectrum from heavy flavor
decays is compared to recent leading and next-to-leading order perturbative QCD
calculations. The total cross section of charm quark-antiquark pair production
is determined as sigma_(c c^bar) = 0.92 +/- 0.15 (stat.) +- 0.54 (sys.) mb.Comment: 329 authors, 6 pages text, 3 figures. Submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett.

Nuclear Modification of Electron Spectra and Implications for Heavy Quark Energy Loss in Au+Au Collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV
The PHENIX experiment has measured mid-rapidity transverse momentum spectra
(0.4 < p_T < 5.0 GeV/c) of electrons as a function of centrality in Au+Au
collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV. Contributions from photon conversions and
from light hadron decays, mainly Dalitz decays of pi^0 and eta mesons, were
removed. The resulting non-photonic electron spectra are primarily due to the
semi-leptonic decays of hadrons carrying heavy quarks. Nuclear modification
factors were determined by comparison to non-photonic electrons in p+p
collisions. A significant suppression of electrons at high p_T is observed in

Search for the standard model Higgs boson in tau final states
We present a search for the standard model Higgs boson using hadronically
decaying tau leptons, in 1 inverse femtobarn of data collected with the D0
detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider. We select two final states:
tau plus missing transverse energy and b jets, and tau+ tau- plus jets. These
final states are sensitive to a combination of associated W/Z boson plus Higgs
boson, vector boson fusion and gluon-gluon fusion production processes. The
observed ratio of the combined limit on the Higgs production cross section at
the 95% C.L. to the standard model expectation is 29 for a Higgs boson mass of
115 GeV.Comment: publication versio
Search for W' bosons decaying to an electron and a neutrino with the D0 detector
This Letter describes the search for a new heavy charged gauge boson W'
decaying into an electron and a neutrino. The data were collected with the D0
detector at the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton Collider at a
center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity
of about 1 inverse femtobarn. Lacking any significant excess in the data in
comparison with known processes, an upper limit is set on the production cross
section times branching fraction, and a W' boson with mass below 1.00 TeV can
be excluded at the 95% C.L., assuming standard-model-like couplings to
fermions. This result significantly improves upon previous limits, and is the

Measurement of Transverse Single-Spin Asymmetries for Mid-rapidity Production of Neutral Pions and Charged Hadrons in Polarized p+p Collisions at sqrt(s) = 200 GeV
The transverse single-spin asymmetries of neutral pions and non-identified
charged hadrons have been measured at mid-rapidity in polarized proton-proton
collisions at sqrt(s) = 200 GeV. The data cover a transverse momentum (p_T)
range 0.5-5.0 GeV/c for charged hadrons and 1.0-5.0 GeV/c for neutral pions, at
a Feynman-x (x_F) value of approximately zero. The asymmetries seen in this
previously unexplored kinematic region are consistent with zero within
statistical errors of a few percent. In addition, the inclusive charged hadron
cross section at mid-rapidity from 0.5 < p_T < 7.0 GeV/c is presented and
compared to NLO pQCD calculations. Successful description of the unpolarized
cross section above ~2 GeV/c using NLO pQCD suggests that pQCD is applicable in

Search for the associated production of a b quark and a neutral supersymmetric Higgs boson which decays to tau pairs
We report results from a search for production of a neutral Higgs boson in
association with a quark. We search for Higgs decays to pairs with
one subsequently decaying to a muon and the other to hadrons. The data
correspond to 2.7fb of \ppbar collisions recorded by the D0 detector
at TeV. The data are found to be consistent with background
predictions. The result allows us to exclude a significant region of parameter
space of the minimal supersymmetric model.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Rev. Letter
Elliptic Flow of Identified Hadrons in Au+Au Collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV
The anisotropy parameter v_2, the second harmonic of the azimuthal particles
distribution, has been measured with the PHENIX detector in Au+Au collisions at
sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV for identified and inclusive charged particles at central
rapidities (|eta| < 0.35) with respect to the reaction plane defined at high
rapidities (|eta| = 3-4). The v_2 for all particles reaches a maximum at
mid-centrality, and increases with p_T up to 2 GeV/c and then saturates or
decreases slightly. Our results depart from hydrodynamically predicted behavior

A measurement of the ratio of inclusive cross sections at TeV
The ratio of the cross section for interactions producing a
boson and at least one quark jet to the inclusive cross
section is measured using of collisions
collected with the \dzero\ detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider at
TeV. The candidate events with at
least one jet are discriminated from charm and light jet(s) events by
a novel technique that exploits the properties of the tracks associated to the
jet. The measured ratio is for events having a jet with
transverse momentum \pt > 20 \GeV and pseudorapidity , which
