Mapping protein-specific micro-environments in live cells by fluorescence lifetime imaging of a hybrid genetic-chemical molecular rotor tag

    Get PDF
The micro-viscosity and molecular crowding experienced by specific proteins can regulate their dynamics and function within live cells. Taking advantage of the emerging TMP-tag technology, we present the design, synthesis and application of a hybrid genetic-chemical molecular rotor probe whose fluorescence lifetime can report protein-specific micro-environments in live cells

Predicting customer lifetime value for hypermarket private label products

This study develops a model to predict customer lifetime value for hypermarket private label products. It examines the relationships among store awareness, store image variables (i.e., service quality, price/value, convenience, and product quality), private label image, repurchase intention, and customer lifetime value and investigates the moderating role of image fit. The originality of this study lies in filling the gap of previous research on antecedents of private label customers’ behavior by considering store awareness, image fit, and customer lifetime value. Partial least squares structural equation modeling was used to analyze data. The results indicate the following. Store image variables (except product quality) and store awareness affect repurchase intention directly or indirectly through private label image. Image fit moderates the relationships between store image variables (except product quality) and private label image. Private label image facilitates customer lifetime value. This study provides several theoretical and practical implications for hypermarket private label product developments

Genetic variants in novel pathways influence blood pressure and cardiovascular disease risk.

Blood pressure is a heritable trait influenced by several biological pathways and responsive to environmental stimuli. Over one billion people worldwide have hypertension (≥140 mm Hg systolic blood pressure or  ≥90 mm Hg diastolic blood pressure). Even small increments in blood pressure are associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events. This genome-wide association study of systolic and diastolic blood pressure, which used a multi-stage design in 200,000 individuals of European descent, identified sixteen novel loci: six of these loci contain genes previously known or suspected to regulate blood pressure (GUCY1A3-GUCY1B3, NPR3-C5orf23, ADM, FURIN-FES, GOSR2, GNAS-EDN3); the other ten provide new clues to blood pressure physiology. A genetic risk score based on 29 genome-wide significant variants was associated with hypertension, left ventricular wall thickness, stroke and coronary artery disease, but not kidney disease or kidney function. We also observed associations with blood pressure in East Asian, South Asian and African ancestry individuals. Our findings provide new insights into the genetics and biology of blood pressure, and suggest potential novel therapeutic pathways for cardiovascular disease prevention

The Strategy of Preventing COVID-19 Infection for Dental Clinics in Taiwan

    No full text
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is spread in the world. To understand how to prevent virus infection in dental clinics, case study is used in this study. Following SARS prevention, measuring body temperature, using mask, using dispersal instruments and spraying 75% alcohol are included. And clinics build standard operation procedure from patient arriving to treatment finished. Recording travel history, arranging the number of patients and accompany person are included. Isolate droplets and avoid the short distance of social contact are applied in the strategy.</p

Observation of Frequency-Domain Fluorescence Anomalous Phase Advance Due to Dark-State Hysteresis

    No full text
Frequency-domain fluorescence spectroscopy, commonly referred to as phase fluorometry, is a classic approach to study the lifetime dynamics of fluorescent systems. Here we report an interesting phenomenon: unlike conventional fluorescence lifetime phase fluorometry in which the fluorescence trace always lags behind the modulated excitation source, the detected signal from certain fluorophores can actually exhibit fluorescence anomalous phase advance (FAPA) as if the fluorescence is emitted “ahead” of the source. FAPA is pronounced only within a range of modulation frequencies that are outside quasi-static and quasi-equilibrium conditions. We attribute FAPA to photoinduced dark state hysteresis, supported by both simulations of photodynamic transitions and experiments with dark-state promoters and quenchers. Being a fast and straightforward frequency-domain reporter, FAPA offers a unique and specific contrast mechanism for dark state dynamics sensing and imaging

Secondary phosphine oxides assisted palladium complexes catalyzed catellani reaction for the formation of carbazole derivatives

    No full text
Several secondary phosphine oxides (SPOs, 2a-2d) as well as 2a-chelated palladium complex 2a_Pd were employed in Catellani type reaction for the synthesis of 1-methyl-9H-carbazole (4) from 2-iodotoluene and N-(2-bromophenyl)acetamide (3). The application of these ligands (2a-2d) and palladium complex (2a_Pd) in this reaction is beneficial in terms of increasing the yield of the major product, 4. An elaborated mechanism was proposed to account for the observation of 4 as well as some side products, 5, 6, 7, and 8, via C-C and C-N bonds formation processes
