OxyCAP UK: Oxyfuel Combustion - academic Programme for the UK
The OxyCAP-UK (Oxyfuel Combustion - Academic Programme for the UK) programme was a ÂŁ2 M collaboration involving researchers from seven UK universities, supported by E.On and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council. The programme, which ran from November 2009 to July 2014, has successfully completed a broad range of activities related to development of oxyfuel power plants. This paper provides an overview of key findings arising from the programme. It covers development of UK research pilot test facilities for oxyfuel applications; 2-D and 3-D flame imaging systems for monitoring, analysis and diagnostics; fuel characterisation of biomass and coal for oxyfuel combustion applications; ash transformation/deposition in oxyfuel combustion systems; materials and corrosion in oxyfuel combustion systems; and development of advanced simulation based on CFD modelling

Search for scalar leptoquarks and T-odd quarks in the acoplanar jet topology using 2.5 fb-1 of ppbar collision data at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV
A search for new physics in the acoplanar jet topology has been performed in
2.5 fb-1 of data from ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV, recorded by the D0
detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The numbers of events with exactly
two acoplanar jets and missing transverse energy are in good agreement with the
standard model expectations. The result of this search has been used to set a
lower mass limit of 205 GeV at the 95% C.L. on the mass of a scalar leptoquark
when this particle decays exclusively into a quark and a neutrino. In the
framework of the Little Higgs model with T-parity, limits have also been
obtained on the T-odd quark mass as a function of the T-odd photon mass
New Technologies in Global Societies
Technological advancements in the West since the last millennium have contributed to global modernity. Technologies set conditions for the closeness of the nation-states and for the affinity of the global and the local. They are also penetrating everyday life, and even sometimes the body, producing radical social changes. Yet, arguing the new technologies bring a new life and a promising future to global societies remains a questionable thesis.
This book attempts to explore the relationship between new technologies and global societies, to gain an understanding of how the positive as well as negative influences of technologies bear on global societies, how their practices of use are resisted or re-interpreted by these societies, and how their social meaning is constituted through the process of negotiation with these societies. Part 1 is on science, technology, culture, and the body; Part 2 is on new media and generations, and Part 3 is on information and communication technologies (ICTs) and work

Both the measured jet energy distributions and the event orientation are reproduced by second order QCD. An alternative model with scalar gluons fails to describe the data
Search for leptoquarks in Z 0 decays
We have searched for direct leptoquark production in Z 0 decays from a scan of the Z 0 resonance, in the energy range 88.2 †âs â€94.2 GeV, using 5.2 pb -1 of data. We exclude the existence of scalar leptoquarks with masses less than 41 to 44 GeV, depending on the charge assignments, at the 95% confidence level
