On the Symmetric Space Sigma-Model Kinematics
The solvable Lie algebra parametrization of the symmetric spaces is
discussed. Based on the solvable Lie algebra gauge two equivalent formulations
of the symmetric space sigma model are studied. Their correspondence is
established by inspecting the normalization conditions and deriving the field

Integrated Lax Formalism for PCM
By solving the first-order algebraic field equations which arise in the dual
formulation of the D=2 principal chiral model (PCM) we construct an integrated
Lax formalism built explicitly on the dual fields of the model rather than the
currents. The Lagrangian of the dual scalar field theory is also constructed.
Furthermore we present the first-order PDE system for an exponential
parametrization of the solutions and discuss the Frobenious integrability of

A Jupiter-mass planet around the K0 giant HD 208897
For over 10 years, we have carried out a precise radial velocity (RV) survey
to find substellar companions around evolved G,K-type stars to extend our
knowledge of planet formation and evolution. We performed high precision RV
measurements for the giant star HD 208897 using an iodine (I2) absorption cell.
The measurements were made at T\"UB\.ITAK National Observatory (TUG, RTT150)
and Okayama Astrophysical Observatory (OAO). For the origin of the periodic
variation seen in the RV data of the star, we adopted a Keplerian motion caused
by an unseen companion. We found that the star hosts a planet with a minimum
mass of m2sini=1.40MJ, which is relatively low compared to those of known
planets orbiting evolved intermediate-mass stars. The planet is in a nearly
circular orbit with a period of P=353 days at about 1 AU distance from the host
star. The star is metal rich and located at the early phase of ascent along the
red giant branch. The photometric observations of the star at Ankara University
Kreiken Observatory (AUKR) and the HIPPARCOS photometry show no sign of
variation with periods associated with the RV variation. Neither bisector
velocity analysis nor analysis of the Ca II and Halpha lines shows any
correlation with the RV measurements
Analysis of Strain Fields in Silicon Nanocrystals
Strain has a crucial effect on the optical and electronic properties of
nanostructures. We calculate the atomistic strain distribution in silicon
nanocrystals up to a diameter of 3.2 nm embedded in an amorphous silicon
dioxide matrix. A seemingly conflicting picture arises when the strain field is
expressed in terms of bond lengths versus volumetric strain. The strain profile
in either case shows uniform behavior in the core, however it becomes
nonuniform within 2-3 \AA distance to the nanocrystal surface: tensile for bond
lengths whereas compressive for volumetric strain. We reconsile their

Underdetermined instantaneous audio source separation via local Gaussian modeling
International audienceUnderdetermined source separation is often carried out by modeling time-frequency source coefficients via a fixed sparse prior. This approach fails when the number of active sources in one time-frequency bin is larger than the number of channels or when active sources lie on both sides of an inactive source. In this article, we partially address these issues by modeling time-frequency source coefficients via Gaussian priors with free variances. We study the resulting maximum likelihood criterion and derive a fast non-iterative optimization algorithm that finds the global minimum. We show that this algorithm outperforms state-of-the- art approaches over stereo instantaneous speech mixtures
Real-world evidence on non-invasive tests and associated cut-offs used to assess fibrosis in routine clinical practice
Background & Aims: Non-invasive tests (NITs) offer a practical solution for advanced fibrosis identification in non-alcoholic
fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Despite increasing implementation, their use is not standardised, which can lead to inconsistent
interpretation and risk stratification. We aimed to assess the types of NITs and the corresponding cut-offs used in a range of
healthcare settings.
Methods: A survey was distributed to a convenience sample of liver health experts who participated in a global NAFLD
consensus statement. Respondents provided information on the NITs used in their clinic with the corresponding cut-offs and
those used in established care pathways in their areas.
Results: There were 35 respondents from 24 countries, 89% of whom practised in tertiary level settings. A total of 14 different
NITs were used, and each respondent reported using at least one (median = 3). Of the respondents, 80% reported using FIB-4
and liver stiffness by vibration-controlled transient elastography (Fibroscan®), followed by the NAFLD fibrosis score (49%). For
FIB-4, 71% of respondents used a low cut-off of <1.3 (range <1.0 to <1.45) and 21% reported using age-specific cut-offs. For
Fibroscan®, 21% of respondents used a single liver stiffness cut-off: 8 kPa in 50%, while the rest used 7.2 kPa, 7.8 kPa and
8.7 kPa. Among the 63% of respondents who used lower and upper liver stiffness cut-offs, there were variations in both values
(7.5 to >20 kPa, respectively). Conclusions: The cut-offs used for the same NITs for NAFLD risk stratification vary between clinicians. As cut-offs impact test
performance, these findings underscore the heterogeneity in risk-assessment and support the importance of establishing
consistent guidelines on the standardised use of NITs in NAFLD management.
Lay summary: Owing to the high prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in the general population it is
important to identify those who have more advanced stages of liver fibrosis, so that they can be properly treated. Noninvasive tests (NITs) provide a practical way to assess fibrosis risk in patients. However, we found that the cut-offs used
for the same NITs vary between clinicians. As cut-offs impact test performance, these findings highlight the importance of
establishing consistent guidelines on the standardised use of NITs to optimise clinical management of NAFLD
Palaeozoic-Recent geological development and uplift of the Amanos Mountains (S Turkey) in the critically located northwesternmost corner of the Arabian continent
<p>We have carried out a several-year-long study of the Amanos Mountains, on the basis of which we present new sedimentary and structural evidence, which we combine with existing data, to produce the first comprehensive synthesis in the regional geological setting. The ca. N-S-trending Amanos Mountains are located at the northwesternmost edge of the Arabian plate, near the intersection of the African and Eurasian plates. Mixed siliciclastic-carbonate sediments accumulated on the north-Gondwana margin during the Palaeozoic. Triassic rift-related sedimentation was followed by platform carbonate deposition during Jurassic-Cretaceous. Late Cretaceous was characterised by platform collapse and southward emplacement of melanges and a supra-subduction zone ophiolite. Latest Cretaceous transgressive shallow-water carbonates gave way to deeper-water deposits during Palaeocene-Eocene. Eocene southward compression, reflecting initial collision, resulted in open folding, reverse faulting and duplexing. Fluvial, lagoonal and shallow-marine carbonates accumulated during Late Oligocene(?)-Early Miocene, associated with basaltic magmatism. Intensifying collision during Mid-Miocene initiated a foreland basin that then infilled with deep-water siliciclastic gravity flows. Late Miocene-Early Pliocene compression created mountain-sized folds and thrusts, verging E in the north but SE in the south. The resulting surface uplift triggered deposition of huge alluvial outwash fans in the west. Smaller alluvial fans formed along both mountain flanks during the Pleistocene after major surface uplift ended. Pliocene-Pleistocene alluvium was tilted towards the mountain front in the west. Strike-slip/transtension along the East Anatolian Transform Fault and localised sub-horizontal Quaternary basaltic volcanism in the region reflect regional transtension during Late Pliocene-Pleistocene (<4 Ma).</p

INI-17-03.The binary star NY Hya is a bright, detached, double-lined eclipsing system with an orbital period of just under five days with two components each nearly identical to the Sun and located in the solar neighbourhood. The objective of this study is to test and confront various stellar evolution models for solar-type stars based on accurate measurements of stellar mass and radius. We present new ground-based spectroscopic and photometric as well as high-precision space-based photometric and astrometric data from which we derive orbital as well as physical properties of the components via the method of least-squares minimisation based on a standard binary model valid for two detached components. Classic statistical techniques were invoked to test the significance of model parameters. Additional empirical evidence was compiled from the public domain; the derived system properties were compared with archival broad-band photometry data enabling a measurement of the system's spectral energy distribution that allowed an independent estimate of stellar properties. We also utilised semi-empirical calibration methods to derive atmospheric properties from Str\"{o}mgren photometry and related colour indices. Data was used to confront the observed physical properties with classic and magnetic stellar evolution models.Peer reviewe
The Mediterranean Island Wetlands (MedIsWet) inventory: strengths and shortfalls of the currently available floristic data
MedIsWet (Conservation of the island wetlands of the Mediterranean Basin) is a MAVA funded
project which aims at investigating all seasonal or permanent island wetlands both natural and
artificial, with a minimum extent of 0.1 hectares. More than 16,000 wetlands from almost all
the Mediterranean, including islands from France, Italy, Malta, Croatia, Cyprus, Tunisia,
Turkey, Greece and Spain were mapped. Over 2,500 of them were inventoried in the field and
more than 500 scientific contributions catalogued. In total, more than 35,000 plant occurrences
were uploaded, in a standardised and comparable way, on the national open-source web portals.
These can be related to the recorded threats, uses and other spatially retrievable information.
Here, we show strengths and shortfalls of the already available information about the floristic
records. Although further improvements are needed, we discuss how these data can be used for
research and policy actions and to develop conservation projects
Juvenile idiopathic scoliosis treated with posterior arthrodesis and segmental pedicle screw instrumentation before the age of 9 years: a 5-year follow-up
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Study design</p> <p>Retrospective study.</p> <p>Objective</p> <p>To evaluate the radiological results of fusion with segmental pedicle screw fixation in juvenile idiopathic scoliosis with a minimum 5-year follow-up.</p> <p>Summary of background data</p> <p>Progression of spinal deformity after posterior instrumentation and fusion in immature patients has been reported by several authors. Segmental pedicle screw fixation has been shown to be effective in controlling both coronal and sagittal plane deformities. However, there is no long term study of fusion with segmental pedicle screw fixation in these group of patients.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Seven patients with juvenile idiopathic scoliosis treated by segmental pedicle screw fixation and fusion were analyzed. The average age of the patients was 7.4 years (range 5–9 years) at the time of the operation. All the patients were followed up 5 years or more (range 5–8 years) and were all Risser V at the most recent follow up. Three dimensional reconstruction of the radiographs was obtained and 3DStudio Max software was used for combining, evaluating and modifying the technical data derived from both 2d and 3d scan data.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The preoperative thoracic curve of 56 ± 15° was corrected to 24 ± 17° (57% correction) at the latest follow-up. The lumbar curve of 43 ± 14° was corrected to 23 ± 6° (46% correction) at the latest follow-up. The preoperative thoracic kyphosis of 37 ± 13° and the lumbar lordosis of 33 ± 13° were changed to 27 ± 13° and 42 ± 21°, respectively at the latest follow-up. None of the patients showed coronal decompensation at the latest follow-up. Four patients had no evidence of crankshaft phenomenon. In two patients slight increase in Cobb angle at the instrumented segments with a significant increase in AVR suggesting crankshaft phenomenon was seen. One patient had a curve increase in both instrumented and non instrumented segments due to incorrect strategy.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>In juvenile idiopathic curves of Risser 0 patients with open triradiate cartilages, routine combined anterior fusion to prevent crankshaft may not be warranted by posterior segmental pedicle screw instrumentation.</p
