As a platform and carrier of tourism information, tourism websites (TWs) and online tourism marketing have deeply affected the tourism industry. The authors adopt a geographical perspective to analyze the distribution of Chinese tourism websites (CTWs), and statistical analysis with SPSS16.0 was conducted to explore the online marketing effects of CTWs, and some meaningful results has been produced: 1) The number of CTWs generally decreases from eastern China to central and western China, and are especially dominant in tourism developed provinces. 2) The number of tourists has strong statistical correlation with the number of CTWs. 3) The strongest correlation for inbound tourists is with hotel websites, and the highest correlation coefficient is 0.807 between the number of domestic tourist and resort websites. Both inbound and domestic tourists have a low correlation coefficient with travel agency websites (TA). 4) There exist some statistical models between tourist numbers and different kinds of CTWs. The results clearly unveil the marketing effects and correlation of CTWs and is helpful for further online marketing strategies

While studies have examined people's understanding of climate change and its relationship to tourism, these focus largely on developed country populations. Much future tourism growth will come from developing countries following economic development; often countries where climate change will be strongly felt. Do tourists from developing countries have the same knowledge gaps about travel, tourism, and climate change as in the developed world? Will behavioral change policies be successful in encouraging more environmentally friendly approaches to climate change and tourism in developing countries? This paper presents findings from 20 in-depth interviews with active Nigerian tourists, analyzing their understanding of climate change, the links known, or not, between their travel and climate change, and their willingness to change their tourism patterns. Understanding of climate change was limited and there was conceptual confusion. Participants did not view their own travel as a cause of climate change and many were embedded in air travel practice. Participants were unwilling to change their tourism patterns to reduce their contribution to climate change. Significant structural barriers limit low carbon tourism travel in Nigeria (and other developing countries), including reliability, availability safety, and speed. Behavioral change will be difficult to achieve

Tourist attitudes towards water use in the developing world: A comparative analysis

    Get PDF
This paper examines tourists' attitudes towards water use based on comparative data from interviews with tourists in Zanzibar, The Gambia and Dominican Republic. Unsustainable water use, accentuated by climate change, threatens access to water which potentially forms a source of conflict between tourists, tourism businesses, residents and the environment. Additionally it raises issues about rights of access to water. The results emphasise the actual nature and scale of tourist use of water and their lack of awareness of the impacts of this use on the local environment and community. This lack of awareness becomes an added indicator of the growing unsustainability of tourism in certain destinations and needs to be considered alongside the longer-term scenarios of climate change. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd

The article deals with the issues of ensuring the dynamic sustainable development of the world tourism industry based on strategic management approaches. The modern strategic models of development of the world tourism industry are set aside and analytically substantiated. An algorithmic model of selecting the best strategy for travel companies has been created, taking into account the factor of strengthening international strategic positions. The methodological structure of the study will be based on empirical studies showing that political and socio-economic instability ambiguously influences the trends of world tourism development. In the current conditions of informatization, globalization of economy, hypercompetition it becomes obvious that an important factor of operation of tourism system is its provision with adequate model of development. We define strategic management as one of the leading approaches to management in the context of universal dynamism, unpredictability and volatility of the business environment. The application of the concept of strategic management in the sphere of world tourism should only take into account the specific activity of the tourist company, interests of consumers of tourist services, existing conditions of competition and principles of sustainable development. The concept of sustainable world tourism can solve two problems: 1) the need for balanced development of the tourism industry; 2) considers limitations on existing natural resources and their conservation and multiplication for future generations

The study consequently sought to explore exhibitors’ perceptions of the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo 2017. The study found that exhibitors perceived Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo 2017 to be an important tourism event that brings considerable benefits to participants. The perception that exhibitors place on the event was determined by the quality of staff brought to the stand, the geographical dispersion of exhibitors from the venue, the amount of money spend on the exhibition, the number of times exhibitors have participated at previous editions as well as the diversity of sectors exhibiting at Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo 2017. The study also unearthed challenges faced by exhibitors such a poor information dissemination, poor time management, booth management, slow internet connectivity and challenges in accessing the venue among others. The study concluded that the Sanganai/Hlanganani World Tourism Expo was perceived to be a highly beneficial event and well worth the attendance of exhibitors
