Detrital pyroxenes in the Eocene flysch of the Istrian Basin (Slovenia, Croatia)

For the first time, few detrital augite and pigeonite crystals have been found in the Eocene flysch basins of Istria (Trieste-Koper basin; Italy, Slovenia, Croatia) and Krk Island (Croatia). Their chemistry suggests that they are related to subalkaline rocks (within-plate tholeiites) crystallized at a pressure between 0 and 5 kbar. As a possible source, the nearby basaltic andesites of Ljubac have been taken into consideration. The argument for a ?Late Tertiary age of the Ljubac volcanics is that no detrital pyroxenes have been found in the Eocene flysch and Oligo- Miocene molasse deposits of the area (Lugovic et al., 1998). Radiometric data are not available until now. The detection of detrital pyroxene could be an indication of an older age of the Ljubac volcanics. The presence of similar pyroxenes in the Trieste-Koper and the Krk Island flysch and their absence in Brkini flysch suggest that the basin of Krk was linked with the Istrian basin rather than the Brkini basin

The situation of the pandemic of SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 disease is a new and unknown situation for everyone, causing fear and uncertainty. It is also a situation that has led to numerous changes in the everyday life of many people, including students who had to adapt to the new reality of distance education from day to day. The paper concerns with the situation of online education of students with mild intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder. It is an attempt to indicate the difficulties encountered by this group of students in the situation of distance learning from a perspective of both the student and the teacher. The paper also indicates the issues which should be considered in this education, the way of its adaptation to the possibilities of the discussed group of students, as well as elementswhich are really important in this education. The situation of the pandemic of SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19 disease is a new and unknown situation for everyone, causing fear and uncertainty. Interdisciplinary Contexts of Special Pedagogy, no. 24, Poznań 2019.Pp. 67-81. Adam Mickiewicz University Press. ISSN 2300-391X. DOI: https://doi.org/10.14746/ikps.2019.24.04 The article presents a discussion on the importance of early therapeutic interactions for the development of a child at risk of disability or with a disability and his/her family. It indicates the importance of the time of taking action in relation to a child with developmental disorder for the period from birth to the age of three years. The article pays special attention to the place of early intervention and early support in the development process, its preventive, compensatory and corrective role. It describes barriers to the development of this system in Poland and points to potential solutions to these difficulties.Marzena Buchnat, Aneta Wojciechowska, Early childhood education and care of children with normal and abnormal development in Poland – its importanceand barriers. Research Into Tourism Space In Poland At The “Geographical Centre” In Łódź

Published in: Origin Spatial Development of Contemporary Poland in Łódź University Geographical Research, edited by T.MarszałThe study of tourism space as a whole has become the domain of tourism geographers. As a matter of fact, it can be put forward that tourism space as a functionally distinctive part of geographical space (Liszewski 1995) is the basic object of study in this discipline. Due to their comprehensive approach to the problem, geographers are best prepared for studying spatial phenomena such as tourism. The original features of tourism space, distinguishing it from other functional spaces, should be reflected on. In this case, the first things that come to mind include hospitality, organisation, safety etc. (Kaczmarek J. et al. 2008, 2010, Kaczmarek S. and Kaczmarek J. 2011). Due to the fact that they are difficult to define and study, these features have not been thoroughly discussed in academic publications. Tourism space as a particular “complex construction” should undergo a dual analysis. One aspect is a structural study of (with the use of the “planes” described above) its constituents. There has been a lot of research into tourism assets and attractions, tourism management (infrastructure) and tourism, which allow researchers to delimit and define some of its characteristic features. However, only studying the relations among space constituents will let us fully define the nature of tourism space

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MOTEK CAREN SYSTEM IN BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY FOR PATIENTS WITH ANXIETY DISORDERS

    Get PDF
Background: Virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET) is becoming a more and more popular treatment method for patients suffering from anxiety disorders. One of the VRET methods, wchich could be used for this group of patients is MOTEK CAREN system, however, so far no studies have been published on its implementation in psychiatric disorders. Subject and methods: Presented here is a case of a 45 year old woman suffering from anxiety disorders, who underwent a series of four subsequent trainings with the use of MOTEK CAREN system repeted once a week. Data from the system were collected on the work of muscles, joints, reactions of the ground, etc. Blood pressure, pulse and salivary cortisol level were measured before and after each training. The level of state and trait anxiety was each time measured with the STAI inventory. Results: The changes of the values of heart rate, blood pressure and salivary cortisol suggest that all trainings we stressful events for the patients, as they were not observed in the control session. But the gradual decrease in the levels of salivary cortisol and axiety as state after subsequent trainings may be signs of a gradual adaptation of the patient to the stressful situation. A lower cadence during the trainings compared to the control session was observed, however the speed of the cadence increased with each session. Conclusions: Ttrainings with the MOTEK CAREN system can be promising in the treatment of anxiety disorders. Of course in order to draw more evidence based conclusions this observations must be confirmed on a larger sample of patients

Preliminary flagellin gene transfection into tumor cells - attempts of generating anti-tumor response in experimental model

The development of new research techniques, especially molecular ones, creates hopes for improved treatment efficacy and a better prognosis in lung cancer. The starting point for very important experiments in the field of immunotherapy is the sensitization of the immune system to the tumor antigen . The aim of the study was to determine whether using flagellin can induce innate antitumor effective, and thus, increase the immunogenicity of the tumor. The test material was the established mouse cell line LLC, derived from Lewis lung cancer. Vectors were constructed by cloning FliC inserts into the pCDH-MSC-T2A Puro plasmid. The cells were transfected directly and indirectly (with pseudoviruses, produced by previously transfected packaging cells HEK 293T). The transfection efficiency was confirmed by RT-PCR. The cells thus prepared were implanted subcutaneously in mice. The control group received non-transfected LLC cells. Then, after 6 weeks, the mice were scarified. The animals were sectioned to isolate the tumor and lungs in which the presence or absence of metastases was assessed. In mice that received immunotherapeutic vaccines containing transfected LLC cells, less tumor mass was found or a complete lack of it, and the lifespan was noticeably prolonged. In addition, no metastases occurred in the group vaccinated with cells transfected with direct technique. It can be concluded that flagellin is effective as an adjuvant in the process of presenting tumor antigens to T cells Thus, in the light of recent studies and reports, it is likely that in this experiment effectively increased immunogenicity of the tumor. Activating anti-tumor cellular responses using flagellin is a promising target for lung cancer immunotherapy
