The interaction of hen egg white lysozyme with penicillin and a range of metal ions has been studied using microcalorimetry and related biophysical techniques. UV difference and fluorescence experiments on the binding of penicillin to lysozyme are ambiguous and reflect the variety of published observations, but there is no clear evidence that penicillin competes for example with N-acetylglucosamine (NAG) in the binding cleft. This is supported by ITC binding experiments which suggest that penicillin-G binds to a site on lysozyme remote from the active site. DSC studies are complicated by the thermal instability of penicillin-G in solution above 3

This study investigates how the second generation of Afghan refugees who are born and raised in Balochistan feel about and express their sense of belonging and identity in the hosting community.  The main purpose of this study is to analyze and understand how the second generation of Afghan refugees feel about their identity in terms of who they think they were, how they perceived themselves, whether they felt comfortable or uncomfortable identifying themselves Afghans in local community, and that how their identity affected their sense of belonging and their day to day life in Balochistan. This phenomenological study intended to explore the sense of identity of the young Afghan refugees by drawing on their individual and collective narratives of self and others as they struggle to be part of the social fabric and feel safe and accepted in Pakistani community. It also aimed to highlight how the identity crisis and the feeling of being other affected the needs, attitudes and perceptions of second generation Afghan refugees in the hosting community , and that how the second-generation Afghan refugees experience their sense of belonging and identification in two different national contexts (Afghanistan and Pakistan). This study uses qualitative phenomenological approach. It uses analysis of relevant secondary data, focus group discussions and semi-structured interviews. The findings reveal that the identity crisis is still a challenging and major issue for Afghan refugee children

Using multidimensional scaling technique in image dimension reduction for satellite image

    Get PDF
A satellite multispectral sensor provides data in the form of several spectral image of particular area of the earth under observation. The amount of data by multispectral exhibit high-inter band correlation with redundancy of the information. In this research, we suggested using multidimensional scaling technique as a statistical technique to reduce image dimensions for reconstruction of a new image form multispectral image. The results proved the efficiency of this technique in providing high quality low dimension images based on the value of Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) that was measured to the new image. At the same time, the ability of this technique to reduce dimensions while preserving the basic characteristics of the image has been confirmed

Air transport in Ghana: some climatic constraints

    Get PDF
Understanding a definite geographic context is essential for effective air transport management. To date, the consequences of changing weather conditions and climate on the transportation sector in Ghana has been grievous to the economy of the country. Unfortunately, the impact of climate change on the aviation industry has received very little attention in Ghanaian literature. Meanwhile, it is widely known that transport systems on the whole perform poorly under adverse weather and climatic conditions. This paper seeks to reflect a growing orientation in research and philosophy in the field of air transport and severe weather and climatic constraints. Understanding under-lying principles of climatic conditions and weather is essential to air navigation in Ghana. Clear air turbulence, ceiling and visibility, thunderstorms, electrical phenomenon, climate-induced seasonal variations, and vegetation are some of the threats to air transport across Ghana's airspace. Information is derived from literature surveys, workplace counts, and an aviation researcher. Overall, large information technology investments, consolidation, and re-structuring are all major issues that must be addressed by stakeholders ambitious to stay afloat and competitive in Ghana's airspace

Automatic Gender Detection Based on Characteristics of Vocal Folds for Mobile Healthcare System

    Get PDF
An automatic gender detection may be useful in some cases of a mobile healthcare system. For example, there are some pathologies, such as vocal fold cyst, which mainly occur in female patients. If there is an automatic method for gender detection embedded into the system, it is easy for a healthcare professional to assess and prescribe appropriate medication to the patient. In human voice production system, contribution of the vocal folds is very vital. The length of the vocal folds is gender dependent; a male speaker has longer vocal folds than a female speaker. Due to longer vocal folds, the voice of a male becomes heavy and, therefore, contains more voice intensity. Based on this idea, a new type of time domain acoustic feature for automatic gender detection system is proposed in this paper. The proposed feature measures the voice intensity by calculating the area under the modified voice contour to make the differentiation between males and females. Two different databases are used to show that the proposed feature is independent of text, spoken language, dialect region, recording system, and environment. The obtained results for clean and noisy speech are 98.27% and 96.55%, respectively

Purpose of the study: This article reviews the importance of Health and Physical education (HPE) as an educational discipline in Pakistan: contemporary issues and prospects involved in the negligence of this important sphere of education which range from lack of interest of stakeholders in Pakistan. Methodology: Peer-reviewed and scholarly journals were searched for articles related to Health & Physical education program. Keywords included curriculum, physical activities, instruction, health and nutrition, carrier opportunities, guidance, teacher training because the review aimed to highlight the importance of HPE as an educational discipline in Pakistan and to address the prevailing issues and prospective improvement. Findings: The status of Health and Physical education as an academic discipline was discussed in the article. Among the comparison of the program in Pakistan with that of the others countries, a lack of awareness about the benefits and career opportunities for graduates of HPE is there. Applications of this study: Like other programs and projects, the HPE program aimed at the production of skillful youth who have comprehensive knowledge of the subject and also the practice. This study focused on only Health and physical education program but will help to bring positive change in the other discipline too and will facilitate the production of skilled youth in other academic programs. Novelty/Originality of this study: This review highlights the importance of the Health and Physical education program both at inter, BS ( Bachelor of Studies ), MS, & Ph.D. level and practical outcomes in the shape of physically, mentally, and emotionally fit graduates

Using the perceptions of chemical engineering students and graduates to develop employability skills

Recent years have seen increased global industry sector demand for chemical engineers, subsequent growth of Chemical Engineering (CE) degrees, producing additional qualified graduates. The Confederation of Business Industry have regularly indicated that employers are dissatisfied with skills sets offered by graduates; a 2004 World Chemical Engineering Council (WCEC) survey of experienced and newly employed chemical engineers’ perceptions of their own work skills indicated highest importance for general transferrable skills, with technical knowledge ranked considerably lower. A decade later, we investigate whether chemical engineers, both employed and in education, have similar skills perceptions, by surveying CE undergraduates in penultimate and final years of study, and CE alumni employed in CE roles; all from the University of Strathclyde. Again, transferrable skills were perceived as most important to respondents; as undergraduates gained industrial experience, a shift in perceived relative importance of technical knowledge occurred, again similar to the WCEC survey, otherwise, alumni and students had similar opinions regarding perceived degree of learning of various skills. Alumni were more critical of the quality of education with regards to management and transferrable skills, while female participants perceived business skills as undertaught, feeling considerably overexposed to the potential of research compared to male colleagues. Focus groups showed that male undergraduates valued ‘technical knowledge’ and ‘communicating professionally’; by contrast, female graduates highlighted ‘initiative’ and ‘business skills’. Consequently, training sessions were developed, focussing on transferable skills identified as important by all groups, to be delivered during academic year inductions, aligning skills to year curricula

Proteinuria is caused by kidney damage. Qualitative examination of urine protein can be carried out using the dip strip method, 6% acetic acid and 20% sulfosalicylic acid. The aim of this research is to determine the accuracy and precision of urine protein examination using the dip strip method, 6% acetic acid and 20% sulfosalicylic acid. The research was experimental with repeated measurements of levels carried out visually and gave positive results of 1, 2, 3 and 4. The research was carried out in January 2022 using a research sample of 20 proteinuria positive patients at RSJD Dr. Amino Gondohutomo. The results of this research are that all methods meet the 12S rules where there is 1 control that is more than ± 2SD (still in the ± 3SD area), categorized as a warning/warning of method malfunction (needs more careful analysis). The best method is dip strip because it has the lowest Coefficient of Variation (KV) value, namely 0.497%. The method can still be used for patient care. The coefficient of variation obtained was dye liquid 0.497%, 6% acetic acid 0.654%, and 20% sulfosalicylic acid 0.630%. The smaller the KV value (%) the more thorough the system/method. The conclusion that can be drawn from this research is that the dip strip is a method that has the best accuracy and precision compared to the 6% acetic acid and 20% sulfosalicylic acid methods because it has the smallest coefficient of variation (KV%) value, namely 0.497% and meets the 12S rules. Researchers recommend always ensuring that the research location has the required samples with adequate volume, urine protein examination can be carried out using the dip strip method, researchers can then carry out urine protein examination regarding the sensitivity and specificity of the three qualitative methodsProteinuria disebabkan oleh kerusakan ginjal.
