    Genetic improvement of the herbivorous blunt snout bream (Megalobrama amblycephala)

    Selection experiments with the herbivorous blunt snout bream or Wuchang bream (Megalobrama amblycephala) were started in 1985. Mass selection for size and length/depth ratio resulted in a significant increase in growth and better shape, while inbreeding led to a significant decrease in growth. The total selection ratio from fry to mature brooders was about 0.03 per cent per generation. In the grow out stage, the average daily body weight gains of two lines of fifth generation (F5) fish were 29 per cent and 20 per cent respectively more than the control group, with an average of 5.8 per cent and 4 per cent improvements per generation, respectively. The body was 4 per cent deeper in ratio of standard length/body depth. The effects of inbreeding were examined by crossing full-sibs, the offspring of which were kept without selection. The third generation inbred fish showed 17 per cent lower growth as compared to the control group, with an average of 7.5 per cent per generation. The results demonstrate that selection is a powerful tool to improve the economic traits of the blunt snout bream, but inbreeding can rapidly lead to a reduction in performance. In 2000, the 6th generation of selected bream was certified by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture as a good breed for aquaculture

    Bound magnetic polaron driven low-temperature ferromagnetism in Cu1−xMnxO compounds

    AbstractPartial Mn atoms have been confirmed to enter the CuO lattice and form the Cu1−xMnxO compounds in the case of doping with 0≀x≀0.2 by the sol–gel method. With increasing Mn content, magnetism is observed. The magnetic critical transition temperature increases with enhanced magnetism, which obeys the bound magnetic polaron theory. The electronic transportation shows an insulating behavior as the band-gap decreases. Our results may indicate that CuO may be used as a candidate of magnetic semiconductor

    Nucleon-nucleon momentum correlation function for light nuclei

    Nucleon-nucleon momentum correlation function have been presented for nuclear reactions with neutron-rich or proton-rich projectiles using a nuclear transport theory, namely Isospin-Dependent Quantum Molecular Dynamics model. The relationship between the binding energy of projectiles and the strength of proton-neutron correlation function at small relative momentum has been explored, while proton-proton correlation function shows its sensitivity to the proton density distribution. Those results show that nucleon-nucleon correlation function is useful to reflect some features of the neutron- or proton-halo nuclei and therefore provide a potential tool for the studies of radioactive beam physics.Comment: Talk given at the 18th International IUPAP Conference on Few-Body Problems in Physics (FB18), Santos, Brasil, August 21-26, 2006.     Three-Particle Correlations from Parton Cascades in Au+Au Collisions

    We present a study of three-particle correlations among a trigger particle and two associated particles in Au + Au collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200 GeV using a multi-phase transport model (AMPT) with both partonic and hadronic interactions. We found that three-particle correlation densities in different angular directions with respect to the triggered particle (`center', `cone', `deflected', `near' and `near-away') increase with the number of participants. The ratio of `deflected' to `cone' density approaches to 1.0 with the increasing of number of participants, which indicates that partonic Mach-like shock waves can be produced by strong parton cascades in central Au+Au collisions.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures; Final version to appear in Physics Letters

    Scaling of anisotropy flows in intermediate energy heavy ion collisions

    Anisotropic flows (v1v_1, v2v_2 and v4v_4) of light nuclear clusters are studied by a nucleonic transport model in intermediate energy heavy ion collisions. The number-of-nucleon scalings of the directed flow (v1v_1) and elliptic flow (v2v_2) are demonstrated for light nuclear clusters. Moreover, the ratios of v4/v22v_4/v_2^2 of nuclear clusters show a constant value of 1/2 regardless of the transverse momentum.     Di-hadron azimuthal correlation and Mach-like cone structure in parton/hadron transport model

    In the framework of a multi-phase transport model (AMPT) with both partonic and hadronic interactions, azimuthal correlations between trigger particles and associated scattering particles have been studied by the mixing-event technique. The momentum ranges of these particles are 3<pTtrig<63< p^{trig}_T< 6 GeV/cc and 0.15<pTassoc<30.15< p_{T}^{assoc} < 3 GeV/cc (soft), or 2.5<pTtrig<2.5<p^{trig}_T< 4 GeV/cc and 1<pTassoc<2.51< p_{T}^{assoc} < 2.5 GeV/cc (hard) in Au + Au collisions at sNN\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200 GeV. A Mach-like structure has been observed in correlation functions for central collisions. By comparing scenarios with and without parton cascade and hadronic rescattering, we show that both partonic and hadronic dynamical mechanisms contribute to the Mach-like structure of the associated particle azimuthal correlations. The contribution of hadronic dynamical process can not be ignored in the emergence of Mach-like correlations of the soft scattered associated hadrons. However, hadronic rescattering alone cannot reproduce experimental amplitude of Mach-like cone on away-side, and the parton cascade process is essential to describe experimental amplitude of Mach-like cone on away-side. In addition, both the associated multiplicity and the sum of pTp_{T} decrease, whileas the increases, with the impact parameter in the AMPT model including partonic dynamics from string melting scenario.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures; Physics Letters B 641, 362-367 (2006

    Scaling of Anisotropic Flow and Momentum-Space Densities for Light Particles in Intermediate Energy Heavy Ion Collisions

    Anisotropic flows (v2v_2 and v4v_4) of light nuclear clusters are studied by Isospin-Dependent Quantum Molecular Dynamics model for the system of 86^{86}Kr + 124^{124}Sn at intermediate energy and large impact parameters. Number-of-nucleon scaling of the elliptic flow (v2v_2) are demonstrated for the light fragments up to AA = 4, and the ratio of v4/v22v_4/v_2^2 shows a constant value of 1/2. In addition, the momentum-space densities of different clusters are also surveyed as functions of transverse momentum, in-plane transverse momentum and azimuth angle relative to the reaction plane. The results can be essentially described by momentum-space power law. All the above phenomena indicate that there exists a number-of-nucleon scaling for both anisotropic flow and momentum-space densities for light clusters, which can be understood by the coalescence mechanism in nucleonic degree of freedom for the cluster formation.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures; to be published in Physics Letters

    Isospin influences on particle emission and critical phenomenon in nuclear dissociation

    Features of particle emission and critical point behavior are investigated as functions of the isospin of disassembling sources and temperature at a moderate freeze-out density for medium-size Xe isotopes in the framework of isospin dependent lattice gas model. Multiplicities of emitted light particles, isotopic and isobaric ratios of light particles show the strong dependence on the isospin of the dissociation source, but double ratios of light isotope pairs and the critical temperature determined by the extreme values of some critical observables are insensitive to the isospin of the systems. Values of the power law parameter of cluster mass distribution, mean multiplicity of intermediate mass fragments (IMFIMF), information entropy (HH) and Campi's second moment (S2S_2) also show a minor dependence on the isospin of Xe isotopes at the critical point. In addition, the slopes of the average multiplicites of the neutrons (NnN_n), protons (NpN_p), charged particles (NCPN_{CP}), and IMFs (NimfN_{imf}), slopes of the largest fragment mass number (AmaxA_{max}), and the excitation energy per nucleon of the disassembling source (E∗/AE^*/A) to temperature are investigated as well as variances of the distributions of NnN_n, NpN_p, NCPN_{CP}, NIMFN_{IMF}, AmaxA_{max} and E∗/AE^*/A. It is found that they can be taken as additional judgements to the critical phenomena.Comment: 9 Pages, 8 figure

    Azimuthal asymmetry of direct photons in intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions

    Hard photon emitted from energetic heavy ion collisions is of very interesting since it does not experience the late-stage nuclear interaction, therefore it is useful to explore the early-stage information of matter phase. In this work, we have presented a first calculation of azimuthal asymmetry, characterized by directed transverse flow parameter FF and elliptic asymmetry coefficient v2v_2, for proton-neutron bremsstrahlung hard photons in intermediate energy heavy-ion collisions. The positive FF and negative v2v_2 of direct photons are illustrated and they seem to be anti-correlated to the corresponding free proton's flow.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures; accepted by Physics Letters

    Protons in near earth orbit

    The proton spectrum in the kinetic energy range 0.1 to 200 GeV was measured by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) during space shuttle flight STS-91 at an altitude of 380 km. Above the geomagnetic cutoff the observed spectrum is parameterized by a power law. Below the geomagnetic cutoff a substantial second spectrum was observed concentrated at equatorial latitudes with a flux ~ 70 m^-2 sec^-1 sr^-1. Most of these second spectrum protons follow a complicated trajectory and originate from a restricted geographic region.Comment: 19 pages, Latex, 7 .eps figure
