Linguistic markers of involvement in American broadcast politics. A case study on TV political interviews
This paper investigates the phenomenon of involvement in American TV political interviews. The dataset used to carry out the study consists of a corpus of interviews with American leading politicians aired on the most popular US Sunday morning talk shows within a time span of nine years, from 2010 to 2019. Comparisons are made with another synchronic corpus of American TV interviews coming from the entertaining talk show Charlie Rose featuring personalities who discuss different issues such as technology, science, the film industry, etc. Corpus linguistics methods are exploited to describe verbal traits associated with involvement in American political interviews, as compared to entertaining-oriented talk show interviews. Therefore, this study ascertains whether, and in which ways, the usage of linguistic involvement characterizes the genre of political interviews.

Voices from the Anglo-Saxon world: Accents and dialects across film genres
In this paper we mean to focus on the representation of sociolinguistic variation across social classes in two radically different film genres, i.e. mystery and animated comedy, by analysing Gosford Park (Altman 2001), an ensemble murder mystery which takes place during a hunting party of aristocratic people and their friends; and Gnomeo & Juliet (Asbury 2011), a 3D computer-animated film, loosely based on Shakespeare’ s tragedy, whose protagonists are garden gnomes
Gender Stereotypes in Film Language: A Corpus-Assisted Analysis
The present study concentrates on the representation and the reception of gender stereotypes. The analysis was first carried out on an ad hoc corpus of cult romantic comedies and dramedies of AngloAmerican pop contemporary culture and secondly with a perception test. Both the corpus-driven analysis and the test results provide useful insights into the representation, recognition and entrenchment of gender stereotypes in language and in western culture. The preliminary findings generally confirm and validate the scientific literature, although showing some notable new elements
Instances of formulaic language in Disney movies: a case study on idioms and conversational routines
Effect of management of topsoil structure
This paper aims to show the effectiveness of different soil management strategies for improving soil structure in degraded areas within two vine farms inTuscany(Italy). The management practices adopted were: Composted organic amendment addition (COMP), Green Manure (GM), Dry mulching (DM) and Control (CONTR). Topsoil samples were taken at the beginning of the trial (2015) and two years later, and analyzed for bulk density (BD) and aggregate stability by wet sieving. The strategies adopted to restore the functionality of degraded vineyard soils diversely affected BD and aggregates stability. In both the farms COMP proved to be the best strategy to reduce BD, while GM and DM gave the best results in terms of aggregate stability increase
“Multiple G. S.Ws to the chest. B.P. 90 over 60. Pulse in the 120s. Push 1 of epi!” A preliminary study on the representation of spoken medical English in Grey’s Anatomy
This paper explores the representation of spoken medical English in Grey’s Anatomy (Rhymes 2005-still running), a very popular American TV series set in a hospital environment. Given the shortage of authentic materials portraying spoken medical interactions, medical dramas, which are becoming increasingly accurate, globally acclaimed, represent a useful source to study oral communications in this professional domain. The analysis is based on a sample of episodes in which four main recurrent types of medical-related situations were isolated featuring both expert-to-expert and expert- nonexpert conversations: i) the arrival at ER, ii) the discussion of the clinical case between physicians, iii) the discussion of the clinical case between doctor and patient and iv) the medical procedure. The qualitative assessment of the medical sequences pertaining to the four situational contexts, of which doctor-doctor interactions came out as the most represented ones, revealed some recurrent linguistic usages and attached pragmatic functions. Such results constitute an interesting basis for studies on the authenticity of the representation of oral medical discourse in televisual products
productividad. The words Building Information Modeling comes out very frequently in the
architectural sector, therefore I was inclined and very interested to deepen my
knowledge in this field and select it to draft my TGF.
This powerful tool, which is analyzed and explained and currently in a rapid
expansion worldwide, allows us to get an open format, the so called Industry
Foundation Class (IFC), a neutral file consisting of an aggregated data model for all
the AEC industry, which could be used during the whole building's lifecycle. This
leads to several benefits for the companies and workers in the sector, analyzed and
explained in this work.
The purpose is to develop the basis for software applications able to export from
Architrave, no native BIM application and therefore no connectable to this kind of
files, the geometrical definition of two structural models by using a much more
versatile, multidisciplinary, tridimensional and advantageous like the IFC. It would
allow to exchange information on this geometry with other applications, aimed or not
at the structural calculation and classify these files as BIM connectable.
To sum up, these standard files can share information with applications of the same
category, taking less space than any other format and preventing the loss of
information during files transferences between different software and ensuring,
ultimately, an increase in productivity.Vignozzi, D. (2016).
