Bilateral and Unilateral Asymmetries of Strength and Flexibility in Young Elite Sailors: Windsurfing, Optimist and Laser Classes
In sport sailing, performance is related to the sailor’s ability to maintain the stability of
the boat, and the boat class determines the variables involved in such ability. In monohull-type
vessels, such as the Optimist and Laser classes, the flexibility of the hip joint is a key performance
factor. In the Windsurfing class, performance is determined by the strength of the flexors of the
fingers and elbows. The performance of the sailor may be a ected by asymmetries in the strength
and flexibility of the muscles and joints involved in technical actions. The objective of this study
was to evaluate asymmetries in strength and flexibility in young sailors. Thirty-three young sailors
(ten girls) from the Windsurfing, Optimist and Laser classes were assessed for manual strength
and flexibility, by dynamometry and straight leg lift tests, respectively. The symmetry index and
the functional asymmetry of compression force were calculated. The results showed no di erences
between sailors according to gender. The sailors of the Laser class obtained the highest levels
of manual strength, whereas those of the Windsurfing class showed the highest flexibility levels.
The girls’ group andWindsurfing class had the highest percentage of sailors with strength asymmetry,
whereas, the sailors of the Optimist class presented a greater percentage of asymmetry in flexibility.
There were no di erences in upper limb strength and lower limb flexibility between the dominant
and non-dominant sides
Managing digital transformation: The view from the top
Digital Transformation is upending businesses everywhere. While there is ample research on this topic, there is a clear gap when it comes to understanding the changing talent management role of senior executives in digital transformation processes and the demands of individual employees. This article relies on 23 in-depth interviews with senior managers who are leading all or some of the digital transformation efforts of their respective organizations. Our research, using a grounded theory approach, identifies four key activities (and 37 sub-activities or themes) stemming from the new managerial needs and talent management practices arising from DT processes. We branded these key activities “Drive business change”, “Master fluid & loose organizational structures”, “Master Talent Complexity”, and “Prioritize learning”. This paper aims to provide an overview into the thinking and managerial practices of senior executives in a digital transformation context and complements the limited number of studies that examine the intersection between managerial actions and digital transformation. It also provides a conceptual framework that captures the key managerial demands arising from digital transformation processes and identifies key actions made by senior executives as part of these processes, which can be leveraged by both scholars and practitioners alike
FedRDF: A Robust and Dynamic Aggregation Function against Poisoning Attacks in Federated Learning
Federated Learning (FL) represents a promising approach to typical privacy
concerns associated with centralized Machine Learning (ML) deployments. Despite
its well-known advantages, FL is vulnerable to security attacks such as
Byzantine behaviors and poisoning attacks, which can significantly degrade
model performance and hinder convergence. The effectiveness of existing
approaches to mitigate complex attacks, such as median, trimmed mean, or Krum
aggregation functions, has been only partially demonstrated in the case of
specific attacks. Our study introduces a novel robust aggregation mechanism
utilizing the Fourier Transform (FT), which is able to effectively handling
sophisticated attacks without prior knowledge of the number of attackers.
Employing this data technique, weights generated by FL clients are projected
into the frequency domain to ascertain their density function, selecting the
one exhibiting the highest frequency. Consequently, malicious clients' weights
are excluded. Our proposed approach was tested against various model poisoning
attacks, demonstrating superior performance over state-of-the-art aggregation
methods.Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures, and 6 table
parcela experimental / Soil surface roughness is a parameter that
may influence considerably the hydraulic properties at the
soil surface. Evaluation of maximum water depression
storage (MDS), i.e. the absolute volume of water that
potentially can be stored at a rough surface before water
runoff starts, will be useful to increase knowledge and to
improve modelling of erosive processes. This work aims at
comparing different MDS estimation methods, using both
empirical and geometrical models in soil surfaces covered
with different crop residue amounts. Point elevations were
measured by means of a pin meter and a laser relief meter;
using 30 mm x 30 mm and 2 mm x 2 mm grids,
respectively. Surface water depression storage was found to
depend mainly on the type of boundary conditions assigned
to the test surfaces and on the grid parameters. Because of
the small size of the experimental plots, it was concluded
that models taken into account plot boundary effects result
in more realistic estimations. When resolution of the
experimental plot is modified by increasing grid size, only
minor differences in roughness roughness, RR, and
maximum depressional storage, MDS, assessed by taking
into account boundary effects values are not, were
observed. However, when modelling is performed under
free drainage conditions at the boundary of the small
experimental plots, MDS values were found to decrease
with decreasing grid resolution. In both studied cases, i.e.
with and without boundary effect, accuracy of RR and
MDS values increases as the grid resolution increases.
Soil surface topography is characterized by high spatial
dependence, associated with the size of soil structural units,
aggregates and clods and maximum depressional storage is
controlled by the upper and lower cutoff length scales of
the sampled plot, i. e., grid resolution and plot siz
depends on the original material and, also, on the climatic
conditions which determine the meteorization intensity and
the anthropogenic activities. It is known that diffuse
pollution by agricultural activities can contribute with
considerable amounts of Cu and Zn to surface waters. In
this paper, results from the analysis of Cu and Zn content
made between January 2003 and December 2004 in Valiñas
River (Coruña) at a location called Sésamo are shown. The
content of the two studied elements after filtration at 45 µm
ranged from 0.11 to 9.26 µg/l for Cu and from 0.62 to 53.70
µg/l for Zn. Frequency distributions of the Cu and Zn
contents were strongly asymmetrical, being characterized
by the presence of a few values much higher than the mean.
Transference of Cu and Zn towards surface waters in
relation to the soil use in the studied catchment, according
to the annual content cycle of these elements, is analyzed. It
is made clear the importance of the chemical composition
of the soil surface horizon and other processes, including
the mobilization of the bottom sediments during flood

períodos de flujo base / Livestock organic manure and inorganic fertilizers applied to soil in high quantities have caused an
increase of the nutrient transfers towards surface and subsurface water. Surface water enrichment by phosphates
from agricultural activities in atlantic climatic conditions is mainly associated with surface runoff. In most of the aquatic systems, phosphorus is considered to be the limitant element for starting eutrophication, so it is admitted that
from a threshold of 20 µg/l exists a potential risk of triggering this process. In this paper, results from the analysis of three phosphorus forms; dissolved, sedimentary and total; in 743 samples taken between January 1999 and
December 2004 in Valiñas River (Coruña) at a place called Sésamo, are shown. It is found that more than 95% of the
analysed samples showed phosphate contents higher than 20 µg/l. In all of the years of study, it was observed limited
number of events which total phosphorus contents were higher than the threshold of 200 µg/l. Sedimentary and total
phosphorus frequency distributions show a high positive asymmetry while that of the dissolved phosphate is similar
to the normal distribution. High positive concentrations can occur in every season of the year but they are more frequent
in spring and autumn, when the erosion risk is higher. A very significant correlation between total and sedimentary phosphorus was found. On the other hand, lineal
dependence relationships between suspended solids, total phosphate and sedimentary phosphate were very
significant, as well. It was revealed that, at a yearly level, the contribution of the sedimentary phosphorus to the total
phosphorus was higher than that of the dissolved phosphorus; this contribution is, proportionally, higher during the periods of basis fluxMinisterio de Ciencia y Tecnología; REN2000-0445-HDMinisterio de Ciencia y Tecnología; AGL2003-09284Galicia. Analysis of Immunotherapy in hepatocellular carcinoma
One reason immunotherapy is important for Hepatocellular carcinoma, it’s because there are many immune cells in that organ. Because HCC is very aggressive, immunotherapy must be applied correctly. There are a lot of immunotherapies for all cancers, nevertheless, some has been tested for specific organs or tissues, and probably in the future, this organ-specific treatments can be applied in other tumor tissues.
