Cataloged from PDF version of article. This thesis analyzes the results of the magnetic survey conducted at the prehistoric mound of Kinet Höyük, on the Issos Plain (Hatay, Turkey), and those of the test excavations, which were conducted according to this geophysical survey. The main focus of this study is to compare the magnetometer survey results with the data from the test excavations to verify how proficient this method is for revealing the subsurface features of Kinet Höyük and its surrounding area. This comparison should allow us to test the applicability of these kinds of methods for archaeology.Vural, AyşegülM.S

Purpose: Hemangiomas are the most common vascular tumors in childhood, and the treatment options have undergone profound changes in recent years. In this study, we aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of beta-blockers on hemangiomas, both topi-cal and oral, with non-pharmacological treatment in the pediatric age group. Material and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of pediatric patients with hemangiomas. Results: Fifty-three patients (F/M=40/13) were enrolled in this study. Superficial hemangiomas were detected in 14 (26.4%) patients, and deep hemangiomas were detected in 39 (73.6%) patients. Seventeen patients were followed without medication, 19 were treated with a topical beta blocker, and 17 were treated with an oral beta blocker. Twelve patients with superficial hemangi-omas were followed without medication, while two received topical timolol treatment. A comparison of lesion progression in patients with superficial hemangiomas in the non-pharmacological treatment and topical treatment groups showed that the mean scores of success, in terms of mean fading and reduction in lesion depth, were significantly higher at the first month (7.0 vs. 1.66; p=0.049; 6.0 vs. 1.5; p=0.045). Among patients with deep hemangiomas, a comparison of mean fading scores showed no difference between the oral and topical treatment groups in the first and fourth months (p=0.551, p=0.551). Conclusion: We believe that oral beta-blockers can be used instead of topical treatment in the future, and they will be preferred more by clinicians and families due to less side effects

Background: Thymus species are well-known as medicinal plants. It was aimed to investigate the chemical composition of Thymus pectinatus (TP) and its antioxidant, antimicrobial, antispasmodic, and angiogenic activities. Materials and Methods: After essential oil of TP (EO-TP) was obtained with clevenger distillation system, it was analyzed for chemical composition with GC-MS. To study antispasmodic activity, eight male Wistar albino rats each weighing approximately 250-300 g were used. Results: The results of the analysis revealed 19 components, which equals to 92.93 of the essential oil. The following are the main components; thymol (48.77%), m-cymene (9.15%), isoborneol (5.19%), trans-caryophyllene (4.43%), carvacrol (3.91%) and -terpinene (3.54%). It has been found that microorganisms subjected to whole all of microbiological tests are highly resistant to EO-TP. 2,2- diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl, hydroxyl radical, along with superoxide radical scavenging, and lipid peroxidation says were utilized to show the antioxidant activities of the EO-TP. In measuring its effect, 0.1 mg/mL and 0.5 mg/mL dosage of the EO-TP was applied to the rat ileum as a result of which the magnitude and the frequency of the contractions were observed to be significantly. Conclusion: It was also understood that EO-TP had angiogenic effect upon the vein system of the embryos of chicks. There is a need for further studies to clarify the mechanisms of antimicrobial, antioxidant and angiogenic effects and to determine the constituents of EO-TP responsible from these effects, especially the angiogenic

The outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which emerged in 2019, cut the epoch that will make profound fluctuates in the history of the world in social, economic, and scientific fields. Urgent needs in public health have brought with them innovative approaches, including diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. To exceed the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, various scientific authorities in the world have procreated advances in real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) based diagnostic tests, rapid diagnostic kits, the development of vaccines for immunization, and the purposing pharmaceuticals for treatment. Diagnosis, treatment, and immunization approaches put for- ward by scientific communities are cross-fed from the accrued knowledge of multidisciplinary sciences in health biotechnology. So much so that the pandemic, urgently prioritized in the world, is not only viral infections but also has been the pulsion in the development of novel approaches in many fields such as diagnosis, treatment, translational medicine, virology, mi- crobiology, immunology, functional nano- and bio-materials, bioinformatics, molecular biol- ogy, genetics, tissue engineering, biomedical devices, and artificial intelligence technologies. In this review, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the development of various scientific areas of health biotechnology are discussed

Objective. Schizophrenia's first characteristics invokes the notion of disordered thought and language. Accordingly one of several diagnostic characteristics of schizophrenia is an impairment of verbal communication. To determine the detailed nature of language impairments taking into consideration these problems the aim of the present study was to analyze nominal and verbal predicate use produced by schizophrenic patients and control group during their speech as both predicates require different processings
