    Laser Machining by short and ultrashort pulses, state of the art and new opportunities in the age of the photons

    An overview is given of the applications of short and ultrashort lasers in material processing. Shorter pulses reduce heat-affected damage of the material and opens new ways for nanometer accuracy. Even forty years after the development of the laser there is a lot of effort in developing new and better performing lasers. The driving force is higher accuracy at reasonable cost, which is realised by compact systems delivering short laser pulses of high beam quality. Another trend is the shift towards shorter wavelengths, which are better absorbed by the material and which allows smaller feature sizes to be produced. Examples of new products, which became possible by this technique, are given. The trends in miniaturization as predicted by Moore and Taniguchi are expected to continue over the next decade too thanks to short and ultrashort laser machining techniques.     A microscopic model for three-cluster configurations in light nuclei is presented. It uses an expansion in terms of Faddeev components for which the dynamic eqations are derived. The model is designed to investigate binary channel processes in a compound system. Gaussian and oscillator bases are used to expand the wave function and to represent appropriate boundary conditions. We study the effect of cluster polarization on ground and resonance states of 7Be, and on the astrophysical S-factor of the reaction 6Li(p,3He)4He.Comment: 20 pages, 8 Postscript figures, uses elsart1p.sty, submitted to Nucl.     Kaon Production and Kaon to Pion Ratio in Au+Au Collisions at \snn=130 GeV

    Mid-rapidity transverse mass spectra and multiplicity densities of charged and neutral kaons are reported for Au+Au collisions at \snn=130 GeV at RHIC. The spectra are exponential in transverse mass, with an inverse slope of about 280 MeV in central collisions. The multiplicity densities for these particles scale with the negative hadron pseudo-rapidity density. The charged kaon to pion ratios are K+/π=0.161±0.002(stat)±0.024(syst)K^+/\pi^- = 0.161 \pm 0.002 {\rm (stat)} \pm 0.024 {\rm (syst)} and K/π=0.146±0.002(stat)±0.022(syst)K^-/\pi^- = 0.146 \pm 0.002 {\rm (stat)} \pm 0.022 {\rm (syst)} for the most central collisions. The K+/πK^+/\pi^- ratio is lower than the same ratio observed at the SPS while the K/πK^-/\pi^- is higher than the SPS result. Both ratios are enhanced by about 50% relative to p+p and pˉ\bar{\rm p}+p collision data at similar energies.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, 1 tabl

    Fragmentation and Multifragmentation of 10.6A GeV Gold Nuclei

    We present the results of a study performed on the interactions of 10.6A GeV gold nuclei in nuclear emulsions. In a minimum bias sample of 1311 interac- tions, 5260 helium nuclei and 2622 heavy fragments were observed as Au projec- tile fragments. The experimental data are analyzed with particular emphasis of target separation interactions in emulsions and study of criticalexponents. Multiplicity distributions of the fast-moving projectile fragments are inves- tigated. Charged fragment moments, conditional moments as well as two and three -body asymmetries of the fast moving projectile particles are determined in terms of the total charge remaining bound in the multiply charged projectile fragments. Some differences in the average yields of helium nuclei and heavier fragments are observed, which may be attributed to a target effect. However, two and three-body asymmetries and conditional moments indicate that the breakup mechanism of the projectile seems to be independent of target mass. We looked for evidence of critical point observable in finite nuclei by study the resulting charged fragments distributions. We have obtained the values for the critical exponents gamma, beta and tau and compare our results with those at lower energy experiment (1.0A GeV data).     Mid-rapidity anti-proton to proton ratio from Au+Au collisions at sNN=130 \sqrt{s_{NN}} = 130 GeV

    We report results on the ratio of mid-rapidity anti-proton to proton yields in Au+Au collisions at \rts = 130 GeV per nucleon pair as measured by the STAR experiment at RHIC. Within the rapidity and transverse momentum range of y<0.5|y|<0.5 and 0.4 <pt<<p_t< 1.0 GeV/cc, the ratio is essentially independent of either transverse momentum or rapidity, with an average of 0.65±0.01(stat.)±0.07(syst.)0.65\pm 0.01_{\rm (stat.)} \pm 0.07_{\rm (syst.)} for minimum bias collisions. Within errors, no strong centrality dependence is observed. The results indicate that at this RHIC energy, although the pp-\pb pair production becomes important at mid-rapidity, a significant excess of baryons over anti-baryons is still present.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, accepted by Phys.     On the sample of Russian students (n=30) the influence of toothpastes on the psychophysiological state of students of the environmental faculty of RUDN was studied. The obtained data showed that after seven days of use of the studied toothpaste, the students of the experimental group showed a decrease in reactive and personal anxiety, noted a better mood and improved health.На выборке российских студентов (n=30) изучено влияния зубных паст на психофизиологическое состояние студентов экологического факультета РУДН. Полученные данные показали, что после семидневного использования исследуемой зубной пасты у студентов экспериментальной группы отмечалось снижение реактивной и личностной тревожности, отмечено более хорошее настроение и улучшенное самочувствие

    Water and trace elements content in the ongonite melt from Ary-Bulak massif, Eastern Transbaikal'e (evidence from melt inclusions)

    The ongonite represents the subvolcanic analog of rare earth metal Li fluoride garnets. Only melted inclusions are direct and reliable source of information about a composition of the primary magmatic melts, including the content of water, F, Cl and other volatile components as well as the elements-impurities. The ongonite mineral specimens of Ary-Bulak massif are investigated to find the primary melt inclusions. It is revealed that the rock is formed from magmatic melt whose crystallization temperature is 650-720°C. The magma of ongonites was enriched considerably by H2O (5-8.7 %), F (6-8 %), Li, Rb, Be, As. W and depleted by Sr, Ba, Pb. This testifies high degree of its differentiation
