Perception and attitudes of parents towards teenage pregnancy in a rural community of Cross river state, Nigeria

Teenage pregnancy is a social menace and common public health problem. It is detrimental to both mother and child because teenage mother is not physically, psychologically and economically ready to bear a child. This phenomenon has multiple adverse consequences on maternal health, child health and overall wellbeing of the society. This study investigated the perception and attitudes of parents towards teenage pregnancy in a rural community in Akpabuyo Local Government Area. The objectives included: to determine parents’ perception on teenage pregnancy and to determine parents’ attitudes towards teenage pregnancy. A null hypothesis was stated to test the association between demographic characteristics of parents and their attitude towards teenage pregnancy. Descriptive survey was used and data were collected through self administered questionnaire to a sample of 309 respondents selected through purposive sampling. SPSS version 21.0 was utilized for data analysis. The findings included that 93% of parents claimed that a pregnant teenager outside wedlock is a social deviant and 85.8% said teenage pregnancy is a sign of parental failure. Their attitudinal behaviour showed that the affected girl would be sent away from the family (32.7%), parents would stop her education (49.8%) and that the girl would be abandoned to the man/boy responsible for the pregnancy. Sociodemographic characteristics of parents depicted by gender, education and religion were significantly associated with the attitudes of parents towards teenage pregnancy. Conclusion was made that gaps exist in parental perception and attitudes towards teenage pregnant girls. Therefore, it is recommended that parents should reappraise and strengthen their obligations towards their adolescent/teenage daughters to enable them achieve their full potentials through prevention of teenage pregnancies.KEYWORDS: Teenage pregnancy, parental perceptions, parental attitudes, adolescent pregnanc

The General Manager is responsible for leading, controlling, planning, organizing and finding the opportunities for the business growth. Flavonoids from the Brazilian plant Croton betulaster inhibit the growth of human glioblastoma cells and induce apoptosis

This study investigated the effects of the flavonoids 5-hydroxy-7,4′-dimethoxyflavone, casticin, and penduletin, isolated from Croton betulaster Müll Arg., Euphorbiaceae, a plant utilized in popular medicine in Brazil, on the growth and viability of the human glioblastoma cell line GL-15. We observed that 5-hydroxy-7,4′-dimethoxyflavone and casticin were not toxic to GL-15 cells after 24 h of exposure. However, casticin and penduletin inhibited the metabolic activity of glioblastoma cells significantly at a concentration of 10 μM (p ≤ 0.05). Flavonoids casticin and penduletin also induced a significant and dose-dependent growth inhibition beginning at 24 h of exposure, and the most potent flavonoid was penduletin. It was also observed that penduletin and casticin induced an enlargement of the cell body and a reduction of cellular processes, accompanied by changes in the pattern of expression of the cytoskeletal protein vimentin. Signs of apoptosis, such as the externalization of membrane phosphatidyl serine residues, nuclear condensation, and fragmentation, were also detected in cells treated with 50–100 μM flavonoids. Our results indicate that flavonoids extracted from C. betulaster present antitumoral activity to glioblastoma cells, with penduletin proving to be the most potent of the tested flavonoids. Our results also suggest that these molecules may be promising supplementary drugs for glioblastoma treatment

Composición y análisis de la obra musical REQUIEM a los migrantes para solistas, orquesta sinfónica y coro mixto

A través de los tiempos los compositores consagrados de la historia de la música han hecho de la Misa de Difuntos o Réquiem una memorable remembranza de la idea de la vida y de la muerte; sus partes estructurales y textos proporcionan una intención dramática intrínseca que de por si pretenden mostrar el camino de la salvación y el perdón de un Ser Supremo hacia sus fieles difuntos. La obra contienen un profundo carácter social que le es conferido ya en su tema, Réquiem a los Migrantes ; la obra es una imagen de la realidad de nuestro país Ecuador, realidad social llamada Migración, que ha obligado al compositor a manifestarse de manera que sus conocimientos técnicos musicales compositivos sean una expresión y un llamado de atención a ese problema que padecemos como sociedad. El presente trabajo esta divido en tres partes, el primer capítulo dedicado a los antecedentes e influencias estilísticas del compositor de la Obra Sinfónico - Coral; a continuación en el segundo capítulo se muestra el aporte del compositor de la obra, particularmente en la utilización de la Música Litúrgica y sus textos, en el tercer capítulo se estudia de la obra completa Réquiem a los Migrantes desde el punto de vista del Encuadre Armónico, el Tratamiento de los Textos, Estructuración Formal y la Instrumentación Utilizada. El Proyecto “Diseño de un plan de marketing para el taller de mecánica especializada de la empresa Auto repuestos Gabasa ubicada en el Norte de la ciudad de Quito”, está orientado a analizar la conveniencia de introducir mejoras en el taller de mecánica, en concordancia con las exigencias cada vez más específicas que el mercado busca para satisfacer sus necesidades. Survey of the use of electronic information resources by students in two selected academic libraries in Cross River State, Nigeria

Information technology has influenced all aspect of librarianship and information service delivery. For libraries to continue to lead in this industry generally and academic libraries in particular, deliberate effort must be made to bring the IT education to every potential user of the libraries. This however must be done based on available data. This is what this study sought to provide- a survey of the use of electronic resources (ERs) in libraries. An 12-item questionnaire was developing and administered to a s ample of 447 library users in two universities in Cross River State, Nigeria. The analysis of the resulting data was done using percentages, chi-square test, t-test, Z-test and Friedman test. The result shows that the extent of use of ERs is significantly below expectations. The result also shows that the level of awareness of the use of ERs in libraries is about average and significantly higher than expected. Assess cost in the use of ERs and availability (limited) were the main problems confronting users. Based on these recommendations are made.The Information Technologist Vol. 5 (1) 2008: pp. 98-11

Propuesta de diseño de un área informática forense para un equipo de respuestas ante incidentes de seguridad informáticos, CSIRT

En el Ecuador se reconocen a los ataques informáticos como amenazas reales y de ejecución inmediata que vulneran la seguridad y disponibilidad de sistemas, procesos, e información contenida en equipos tecnológicos, teléfonos celulares, entre otros dispositivos que almacenen datos personales o confidenciales que pueden ser interceptados, robados, manipulados, reproducidos, o desviados por gente conocedora del área informática para el mal uso de la información obtenida. Los ataques y estrategias de invasión a la privacidad van siendo perfeccionados día tras día, lo cual ha generado en las personas, gobiernos e instituciones la necesidad de desarrollar organismos especializados en la operación y gestión de incidentes de seguridad llamados CSIRT (Equipo de Respuestas Ante Incidentes de Seguridad Informáticos), como una respuesta eficaz ante los nuevos riesgos y amenazas..

Seis miniaturas de Mesías Maiguashca: análisis de seis de las siete piezas para piano

La presente tesis de maestría tuvo como propósito analizar seis de las 7 Piezas para piano de Mesías Maiguahsca. Se llevó a cabo una investigación bibliográfica-histórica que nos revela el trabajo de un compositor ecuatoriano de vanguardia desde sus inicios como pianista hasta sus recientes propuestas creativas, enfocándose principalmente en la producción musical realizada para piano. El trabajo se dedica al análisis de seis de las 7 Piezas para piano pero no sin antes conocer el contexto creativo, el cual es de importancia ya que esto nos proporciona una aproximación al lenguaje en la música instrumental de Mesías Maiguashca; en este caso: música sin transformaciones ni mixturada con algún otro elemento sonoro-musical. Esto permitió conocer sobre las influencias y materiales utilizados para la creación de una obra de carácter pedagógico para piano solo. El estudio se basó en la singularidad de cada una de las seis piezas, es decir, no existen parámetros estrictos y fijos para el análisis del corpus de la obra, sino que cada pieza dada su originalidad, ha sido objeto de un estudio particular; por supuesto que algunos aspectos del análisis se comparten pero la metodología propuesta es distinta en cada una de las piezas. Para finalizar se aporta un video donde el compositor explica y describe brevemente estas piezas para piano y una entrevista donde expone el modo de construcción de la pieza “Tres melodías”; estos elementos permitieron recabar información sobre las demás piezas y coadyuvaron a la resolución de cuestiones analíticasThis master thesis was aimed to analyze six of the 7 Piano Pieces by Mesías Maiguashca. A literature-historical research was conducted that reveals the work of an avant-garde Ecuadorian composer from his beginnings as a pianist until his recent creative proposals, focusing mainly on music production made for piano. The work is devoted to the analysis of six of the 7 Piano Pieces but not without knowing the creative context, which is important because this gives us an approach to language in the instrumental music by Mesías Maiguashca; in this case: music without transformations, not even mixed with some other sound-musical element. This allowed for information on possible influences and materials used for the creation of a pedagogical work for solo piano. The study is based on the uniqueness of each one of the six pieces, in other words, strict parameters for analyzing the body of the work do not exist, but that each piece, given its originality, has been the subject of a particular study; of course, some aspects of the analysis are shared but the proposed methodology is different in each one of the pieces. To end, a video is provided where the composer explains and briefly describes these pieces for the piano through an interview where he outlines the manner of construction of the piece "Three Melodies"; these elements allowed information to be gathered about the rest of the pieces and helped solve analytical questionsMagíster en Pedagogía e Investigación MusicalCuenc
