GECCO: Geometrically-Conditioned Point Diffusion Models
Diffusion models generating images conditionally on text, such as Dall-E 2
and Stable Diffusion, have recently made a splash far beyond the computer
vision community. Here, we tackle the related problem of generating point
clouds, both unconditionally, and conditionally with images. For the latter, we
introduce a novel geometrically-motivated conditioning scheme based on
projecting sparse image features into the point cloud and attaching them to
each individual point, at every step in the denoising process. This approach
improves geometric consistency and yields greater fidelity than current methods
relying on unstructured, global latent codes. Additionally, we show how to
apply recent continuous-time diffusion schemes. Our method performs on par or
above the state of art on conditional and unconditional experiments on
synthetic data, while being faster, lighter, and delivering tractable
likelihoods. We show it can also scale to diverse indoors scenes
Psychosocial predictors of exclusive breastfeeding duration to six moths postpartum
The World Health Organization recommend that for optimal growth and development all infants worldwide should be exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life. Previous studies have identified that psychosocial factors are important for the maintenance of exclusive breastfeeding. This study aimed to examine the psychosocial factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding duration to six months postpartum. Method: 125 women completed questionnaires at three time points; 32 weeks gestation, two and six months postpartum. Self-efficacy, body attitude, psychological adjustment, attitude, intention, confidence, motivation and importance of exclusive breastfeeding and breastfeeding status were measured. Findings: At 32 weeks gestation a womanâs confidence to achieve exclusive breastfeeding was a predictor of exclusive breastfeeding to six months postpartum. At two months postpartum, psychological adjustment and self-efficacy were predictive of exclusive breastfeeding duration. At six months postpartum, psychological adjustment, self-efficacy, confidence to maintain and feeling fat were predictive of exclusive breastfeeding duration. Conclusion: Self-efficacy, psychological adjustment, body image, motivation and confidence are important for the maintenance of exclusive breastfeeding to six months. This has clinical application for health psychology as antenatal breastfeeding education and postpartum support may be strengthened by strategies that build a womanâs confidence to exclusively breastfeed
Methods and Applications of Social Media Monitoring of Mental Health During Disasters: Scoping Review
Background: With the increasing frequency and magnitude of disasters internationally, there is growing research and clinical interest in the application of social media sites for disaster mental health surveillance. However, important questions remain regarding the extent to which unstructured social media data can be harnessed for clinically meaningful decision-making.
Objective: This comprehensive scoping review synthesizes interdisciplinary literature with a particular focus on research methods and applications.
Methods: A total of 6 health and computer science databases were searched for studies published before April 20, 2021, resulting in the identification of 47 studies. Included studies were published in peer-reviewed outlets and examined mental health during disasters or crises by using social media data.
Results: Applications across 31 mental health issues were identified, which were grouped into the following three broader themes: estimating mental health burden, planning or evaluating interventions and policies, and knowledge discovery. Mental health assessments were completed by primarily using lexical dictionaries and human annotations. The analyses included a range of supervised and unsupervised machine learning, statistical modeling, and qualitative techniques. The overall reporting quality was poor, with key details such as the total number of users and data features often not being reported. Further, biases in sample selection and related limitations in generalizability were often overlooked.
Conclusions: The application of social media monitoring has considerable potential for measuring mental health impacts on populations during disasters. Studies have primarily conceptualized mental health in broad terms, such as distress or negative affect, but greater focus is required on validating mental health assessments. There was little evidence for the clinical integration of social media-based disaster mental health monitoring, such as combining surveillance with social media-based interventions or developing and testing real-world disaster management tools. To address issues with study quality, a structured set of reporting guidelines is recommended to improve the methodological quality, replicability, and clinical relevance of future research on the social media monitoring of mental health during disasters

Optimizing prediction of binge eating episodes : a comparison approach to test alternative conceptualizations of the affect regulation model
Background : Although a wealth of studies have tested the link between negative mood states and likelihood of a subsequent binge eating episode, the assumption that this relationship follows a typical linear dose–response pattern (i.e., that risk of a binge episode increases in proportion to level of negative mood) has not been challenged. The present study demonstrates the applicability of an alternative, non-linear conceptualization of this relationship, in which the strength of association between negative mood and probability of a binge episode increases above a threshold value for the mood variable relative to the slope below this threshold value (threshold dose response model). Methods : A sample of 93 women aged 18 to 40 completed an online survey at random intervals seven times per day for a period of one week. Participants self-reported their current mood state and whether they had recently engaged in an eating episode symptomatic of a binge. Results : As hypothesized, the threshold approach was a better predictor than the linear dose–response modeling of likelihood of a binge episode. The superiority of the threshold approach was found even at low levels of negative mood (3 out of 10, with higher scores reflecting more negative mood). Additionally, severity of negative mood beyond this threshold value appears to be useful for predicting time to onset of a binge episode. Conclusions : Present findings suggest that simple dose–response formulations for the association between negative mood and onset of binge episodes miss vital aspects of this relationship. Most notably, the impact of mood on binge eating appears to depend on whether a threshold value of negative mood has been breached, and elevation in mood beyond this point may be useful for clinicians and researchers to identify time to onset. <br /
Who's most at risk of poor body image? Identifying subgroups of adolescent social media users over the course of a year
Types and stability of appearance-related social media use patterns remain under-explored despite established links between social media use and wellbeing. This study aimed to identify subgroups of social media users, and explore whether subgroup membership was stable over time and associated with body image-related outcomes. Adolescents (N = 766; Mage = 12.76, SD = 0.73; 49.40% female) completed four surveys across 1-year, reporting several social media use indices, body dissatisfaction, dietary restraint, and strategies to increase muscle. Latent profile analyses identified two subgroups (moderate and high users), that remained reasonably stable over time. The high subgroup exhibited poorer body image at baseline, though differences seemed to dissipate somewhat over 1-year. Examination of subgroup transition over time showed more rapid increases in poor body image outcomes among social media increasers and more rapid declines for reducers. Prevention programs which aim to reduce high levels of social media use among children, young adolescents, and high-risk individuals (i.e., appearance-focused users) appear warranted
Zeros and the functional equation of the quadrilateral zeta function
In this paper, we show that all real zeros of the bilateral Hurwitz zeta
function with are on
only the non-positive even integers exactly same as in the case of . We also prove that all real zeros of the bilateral periodic zeta
function
with are on only the negative even integers just like
. Moreover, we show that all real zeros of the quadrilateral zeta
function with are on only the
negative even integers. On the other hand, we prove that , and
have at least one real zero in when is sufficiently
small. The complex zeros of these zeta functions are also discussed when is rational or transcendental. As a corollary, we show that
with rational or does not satisfy the
analogue of the Riemann hypothesis even though satisfies the
functional equation that appeared in Hamburger's or Hecke's theorem and all
real zeros of are located at only the negative even integers again as
in the case of .Comment: 12 pages. We changed the title. Some typos are correcte
An NLO QCD analysis of inclusive cross-section and jet-production data from the ZEUS experiment
The ZEUS inclusive differential cross-section data from HERA, for charged and
neutral current processes taken with e+ and e- beams, together with
differential cross-section data on inclusive jet production in e+ p scattering
and dijet production in \gamma p scattering, have been used in a new NLO QCD
analysis to extract the parton distribution functions of the proton. The input
of jet data constrains the gluon and allows an accurate extraction of
\alpha_s(M_Z) at NLO;
\alpha_s(M_Z) = 0.1183 \pm 0.0028(exp.) \pm 0.0008(model)
An additional uncertainty from the choice of scales is estimated as \pm
0.005. This is the first extraction of \alpha_s(M_Z) from HERA data alone.Comment: 37 pages, 14 figures, to be submitted to EPJC. PDFs available at

DNA sense-and-respond protein modules for mammalian cells
We generated synthetic protein components that can detect specific DNA sequences and subsequently trigger a desired intracellular response. These modular sensors exploit the programmability of zinc-finger DNA recognition to drive the intein-mediated splicing of an artificial trans-activator that signals to a genetic circuit containing a given reporter or response gene. We used the sensors to mediate sequence recognitionâinduced apoptosis as well as to detect and report a viral infection. This work establishes a synthetic biology framework for endowing mammalian cells with sentinel capabilities, which provides a programmable means to cull infected cells. It may also be used to identify positively transduced or transfected cells, isolate recipients of intentional genomic edits and increase the repertoire of inducible parts in synthetic biology.United States. Forward jet production in deep inelastic ep scattering and low-x parton dynamics at HERA
Differential inclusive jet cross sections in neutral current deep inelastic
ep scattering have been measured with the ZEUS detector. Three phase-space
regions have been selected in order to study parton dynamics where the effects
of BFKL evolution might be present. The measurements have been compared to the
predictions of leading-logarithm parton shower Monte Carlo models and
fixed-order perturbative QCD calculations. In the forward region, QCD
calculations at order alpha_s^1 underestimate the data up to an order of
magnitude at low x. An improved description of the data in this region is
obtained by including QCD corrections at order alpha_s^2, which account for the
lowest-order t-channel gluon-exchange diagrams, highlighting the importance of
such terms in parton dynamics at low x.Comment: 25 pages, 4 figure
