Approximation of functions of two variables by certain linear positive operators

We introduce certain linear positive operators and study some approximation properties of these operators in the space of functions, continuous on a compact set, of two variables. We also find the order of this approximation by using modulus of continuity. Moreover we define an $r$th order generalization of these operators and observe its approximation properties. Furthermore, we study the convergence of the linear positive operators in a weighted space of functions of two variables and find the rate of this convergence using weighted modulus of continuity.Comment: 13 page

Generating Value Through Open Source: Software Service Market Regulation and Licensing Policy

In the software industry, commercial open-source software vendors have recognized that providing services to help businesses derive greater value in the implementation of open source–based systems can be a profitable business model. Moreover, society may greatly benefit when software originators choose an open-source development strategy as their products become widely available, readily customizable, and open to community contributions. In this study, we present an economic model to study how software licensing attributes affect a software originator’s decisions, aiming to provide policy makers with insights into how welfare-improving, open-source outcomes can be incentivized. We show that when a competing contributor is apt at reaping the benefits of software development investment, a less restrictive open source license (e.g., Berkeley Software Distribution, or BSD style) can improve welfare. On the other hand, when the originator is better at leveraging investment and service costs are high, a more restrictive license (e.g., General Public License, or GPL style) can be best for social welfare even when a contributor can cost-efficiently develop the software. Architectural Photography

Mimari fotoğraf, fotoğraf tarihi kadar eski bir alan. Hiç abartılı değil bu iddia. Zira 1826 tarihli ve Nicephore Niepce imzalı ilk fotoğraf bir yapının çeşitli bölümlerine ait: 8 saatlik pozlama sonunda kaydedilen Niepce malikânesinin penceresinden bitişik binanın çatısı ve bacaları. Bu ilk dönemlerin en önemli fotoğraflarından biri de yine mimari fotoğraf alanında değerlendirilebilir elbette: Louis-Jacques Mande Daguerre’nin 1839’da kaydettiği Paris’teki Temple Bulvarı görüntüsü.** Bu kez 20 dakika gibi dönemi için rekor sayılabilecek hızda kaydedilen görüntüde (henüz fotoğraf sözcüğü kullanılmaya başlanmamıştı ve bu görüntüyü kaydetme tekniği mucidinin adıyla, Daguerreotype olarak anılıyordu.) kalabalık oluşuyla ünlü bulvarın boş hali, iki tarafındaki binalar, birkaç ağaç ve zar zor seçilen, karaltı durumundaki iki insan yer alıyordu. Fotoğrafın macerası bu görüntülerle başlarken, mimari fotoğraf da aynı zamanlamayla kültür tarihinde yerini almış oldu. Önemini ve değerini hiç kaybetmeden, hatta tam tersine giderek artan değeriyle günümüzün en önemli fotoğraf alanlarından biri olarak kabul ediliyor mimari fotoğraf. Belge yanıyla, ticari yanıyla, sosyolojik yanıyla ve süslemeci yanıyla başlı başına bir uğraş, başlı başına bir profesyonellik alanı. Şimdi gelin dilimiz döndüğünce mimari fotoğrafın detaylarında geniş bir yolculuğa çıkalım.
