Solutions for Neutral for Axi-Dilaton Gravity in 4-Dimensions
We examine a 1 parameter class of actions describing the gravitational
interaction between a pair of scalar fields and Einsteinian gravitation. When
the parameter is positive the theory corresponds to an axi-dilatonic sector of
low energy string theory. We exploit an SL(2,R) symmetry of the theory to
construct a family of electromagnetically neutral solutions with non-zero axion
and dilaton charge from solutions of the Brans-Dicke theory. We also comment on

Maxwell's Equations in a Uniformly Rotating Dielectric Medium and the Wilson-Wilson Experiment
This note offers a conceptually straightforward and efficient way to
formulate and solve problems in the electromagnetics of moving media based on a
representation of Maxwell's equations in terms of differential forms on
spacetime together with junction conditions at moving interfaces. This
framework is used to address a number of issues that have been discussed
recently in this journal about the theoretical description underlying the

Increased Hunger, Food Cravings, Food Reward, and Portion Size Selection after Sleep Curtailment in Women Without Obesity
This study examined the effects of one night of sleep curtailment on hunger, food cravings, food reward, and portion size selection. Women who reported habitually sleeping 7–9 h per night, were aged 18–55, were not obese, and had no sleep disorders were recruited. Sleep conditions in this randomized crossover study consisted of a normal night (NN) and a curtailed night (CN) where time in bed was reduced by 33%. Hunger, tiredness, sleep quality, sleepiness, and food cravings were measured. A progressive ratio task using chocolates assessed the food reward. Participants selected portions of various foods that reflected how much they wanted to eat at that time. The sleep duration was measured using a single-channel electroencephalograph. Twenty-four participants completed the study. The total sleep time was shorter during the CN (p \u3c 0.001). Participants reported increased hunger (p = 0.013), tiredness (p \u3c 0.001), sleepiness (p \u3c 0.001), and food cravings (p = 0.002) after the CN. More chocolate was consumed after the CN (p = 0.004). Larger portion sizes selected after the CN resulted in increased energy plated for lunch (p= 0.034). In conclusion, the present study observed increased hunger, food cravings, food reward, and portion sizes of food after a night of modest sleep curtailment. These maladaptive responses could lead to higher energy intake and, ultimately, weight gain
Numerical Regularization of Electromagnetic Quantum Fluctuations in Inhomogeneous Dielectric Media
Electromagnetic Casimir stresses are of relevance to many technologies based
on mesoscopic devices such as MEMS embedded in dielectric media, Casimir
induced friction in nano-machinery, micro-fluidics and molecular electronics.
Computation of such stresses based on cavity QED generally require numerical
analysis based on a regularization process. A new scheme is described that has
the potential for wide applicability to systems involving realistic
inhomogeneous media. From a knowledge of the spectrum of the stationary modes
of the electromagnetic field the scheme is illustrated by estimating
numerically the Casimir stress on opposite faces of a pair of perfectly
conducting planes separated by a vacuum and the change in this result when the
region between the plates is filled with an incompressible inhomogeneous

Patterns of Oral Microbiota Diversity in Adults and Children: A Crowdsourced Population Study.
Oral microbiome dysbiosis has been associated with various local and systemic human diseases such as dental caries, periodontal disease, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. Bacterial composition may be affected by age, oral health, diet, and geography, although information about the natural variation found in the general public is still lacking. In this study, citizen-scientists used a crowdsourcing model to obtain oral bacterial composition data from guests at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science to determine if previously suspected oral microbiome associations with an individual's demographics, lifestyle, and/or genetics are robust and generalizable enough to be detected within a general population. Consistent with past research, we found bacterial composition to be more diverse in youth microbiomes when compared to adults. Adult oral microbiomes were predominantly impacted by oral health habits, while youth microbiomes were impacted by biological sex and weight status. The oral pathogen Treponema was detected more commonly in adults without recent dentist visits and in obese youth. Additionally, oral microbiomes from participants of the same family were more similar to each other than to oral microbiomes from non-related individuals. These results suggest that previously reported oral microbiome associations are observable in a human population containing the natural variation commonly found in the general public. Furthermore, these results support the use of crowdsourced data as a valid methodology to obtain community-based microbiome data
String Fields and the Standard Model
The Cremmer-Scherk mechanism is generalised in a non-Abelian context. In the
presence of the Higgs scalars of the standard model it is argued that fields
arising from the low energy effective string action may contribute to the mass
generation of the observed vector bosons that mediate the electroweak
interactions and that future analyses of experimental data should consider the
possibility of string induced radiative corrections to the Weinberg angle

A Spinor Model for Quantum Cosmology
The question of the interpretation of Wheeler-DeWitt solutions in the context
of cosmological models is addressed by implementing the Hamiltonian constraint
as a spinor wave equation in minisuperspace. We offer a relative probability
interpretation based on a non-closed vector current in this space and a
prescription for a parametrisation of classical solutions in terms of classical
time. Such a prescription can accommodate classically degenerate metrics
describing manifolds with signature change. The relative probability density,
defined in terms of a Killing vector of the Dewitt metric on minisuperspace,
should permit one to identify classical loci corresponding to geometries for a
classical manifold. This interpretation is illustrated in the context of a
