Abstract: Introduction: Mathematics is a tool that can be used in sports science. Within mathematics, we can find descriptive statistics that allow information to be extracted from the data of players from the Club Deportivo Intangco Juvenil B team. Objectives: In this document, we are going to carry out a descriptive statistical study of the SCD Intangco Juvenil B team. With the aim of extracting the characteristics, where the template stands out positively and negatively. This will allow knowing aspects that will help coaches in decision-making. Methods: The techniques you use vary depending on the attributes that you want to analyze since the data set provided shows a set of variables that are different from each other. Results & discussion: The results obtained imply that the team shows deficiencies that make them receive many goals. However, some characteristics that can be considered potentially strong are also extracted, such as having a player who scores in half the matches. Conclusions: Finally, we can conclude that mathematics is a tool that allows us to obtain information both from ourselves and from possible rivals.Resumo: Introdução: A matemática é uma ferramenta que pode ser usada dentro das ciências do esporte. Managing Group Decision Making criteria values using Fuzzy Ontologies

Meeting: 8th International Conference on Information Technology and Quantitative Management (ITQM) - Developing Global Digital Economy after COVID-19Most of the available Multi-criteria Group Decision Making methods that deal with a high number of elements usually focus on managing scenarios that have high number of alternatives and/or experts. Nevertheless, there are also cases in which the number of criteria values is difficult for the experts to tackle. In this paper, a novel Group Decision Making method that employs Fuzzy Ontologies in order to deal with a high number of criteria values is presented. Our method allows the criteria values to be combined in order to generate a reduced set of criteria values that the experts can comfortably deal with. (C) 2021 The Authors. Do Nurses Use Discourse Markers Differently when Using Their Second Language as Opposed to Their First while Interviewing Patients?

This study examined whether discourse-marker use changes in nurse-patient interactions as a function of nurses using their first (L1) or second (L2) language. Discourse markers were analyzed as turn-maintenance markers that indicate acknowledgement and discourse-shift markers that signal shifts of a topic or speaker in the conversation. These two categories differ in terms of degree of discourse management and interactional control. Sixteen nurses conducted a pain-assessment interview with a patient native speaker of English and with a patient native speaker of French, where the nurses used their own L1 in one case and their own weaker L2 in the other. The first hypothesis, that nurses would generally use discourse markers more frequently in the L1 than in the L2, was not supported. The second hypothesis, that nurses would use discourse-shift markers less frequently in their L2 compared to the L1, relative to their (baseline) use of turn-maintenance markers, was supported. The findings, especially the support for the second hypothesis, could have implications for the development of L2 training for health practitioners.</p

Dispersive shock waves: from water waves to nonlinear optics

    No full text
Dispersive shock waves are strongly oscillating wave trains that spontaneously form and expand thanks to the action of weak dispersion, which contrasts the tendency, driven by the nonlinearity, to develop a gradient catastrophe. Here we review the basic concepts and recent progresses made in the description of such nonlinear waves, both in terms of experimental results and modelling. In particular, we discuss the formation of dispersive shocks in shallow water, which can be described in terms of Korteweg-de Vries or Whitham nonlocal equations. We contrast such results with those obtained in the field of nonlinear optics, described in terms of local or nonlocal nonlinear Schr¨odinger equations. Finally we show that a dispersive shock propagating under the action of small perturbations can radiate. A perturbative approach allows for the accurate prediction of the radiated frequencies

Cnidarian gene expression patterns and the origins of bilaterality – are cnidarians reading the same game plan as "higher" animals?

[Extract] The past few years have seen a dramatic increase in the available data on gene sequence and gene expression for cnidarians and other "lower" Metazoa, and a flurry of recent papers has drawn on these to address the origins of bilaterality. Cnidarianhomologs of many genes that play key roles in the specification of both the A/P and D/V axes of bilaterians have been characterized, and their patterns of expression determined. Some of these expression patterns are consistent with the conservation of function between Cnidaria and Bilateria, but others clearly differ. Moreover, in some cases very different interpretations have been made on the basis of the same, or similar,\ud data. In part, these differences reflect the inevitable uncertainties associated with the depth of the divergence between cnidarians and bilaterians. In this paper we briefly summarize the cnidarian data on gene expression\ud and organization relevant to axis formation, the varying interpretations of these data, and where they conflict. Our conclusion is that the oral-aboral axis probably does correspond to the anterior-posterior axis of bilaterians,\ud but that its polarity remains uncertain, and that many of the same genes are involved in determining the directive axis of cnidarians and the dorsal-ventral axis of bilaterians, but with sufficient differences in expression that exact homologies are uncertain
