    Sentence mood constitution and indefinite noun phrases

    Sentence mood in German is a complex category that is determined by various components of the grammatical system. In particular, verbal mood, the position of the finite verb and the wh-characteristics of the so called 'Vorfeld'-phrase are responsible for the constitution of sentence mood in German. This article proposes a theory of sentence mood constitution in German and investigates the interaction between the pronominal binding of indefinite noun phrases which are semantically analyzed as choice functions. It is shown that the semantic objects determined by sentence mood define different kinds of domains which have to be uniquely accessible as the range of the choice function. The various properties of the pronominal binding of indefinites can be derived by the interplay of the proposed theoretical notions

    During the last decades superconducting electronics has been the most prominent area of research for small scale applications of superconductivity. It has experienced quite a stormy development, from individual low frequency devices to devices with high integration density and pico second switching time. Nowadays it offers small losses, high speed and the potential for large scale integration and is superior to semiconducting devices in many ways ¿ apart from the need for cooling by liquid helium for devices based on classical superconductors like niobium, or cooling by liquid nitrogen or cryocoolers (40K to 77K) for high-Tc superconductors like YBa2Cu3O7. This article gives a short overview over the current state of the art on typical devices out of the main application areas of superconducting electronics

    Collapse of Flow: Probing the Order of the Phase Transition

    We discuss the present collective flow signals for the phase transition to the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) and the collective flow as a barometer for the equation of state (EoS). We emphasize the importance of the flow excitation function from 1 to 50A50 A GeV: here the hydrodynamic model has predicted the collapse of the v1v_1-flow at 10A\sim 10 A GeV and of the v2v_2-flow at 40A\sim 40 A GeV. In the latter case, this has recently been observed by the NA49 collaboration. Since hadronic rescattering models predict much larger flow than observed at this energy, we interpret this observation as potential evidence for a first order phase transition at high baryon density ρB\rho_B.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures, To appear in the proceedings of 4rd International Workshop of Critical Point and Onset of Deconfinement 200
