Active Learning Methodologies in Teacher Training for Cultural Sustainability
Within the framework of sustainable development, the concept of cultural heritage is linked to the heritage awareness of a specific spatial context, and to the conservation of collective memory. Despite the clear interest in cultural sustainability, the lack of research devoted to interpreting different teaching methods for transmitting patrimonial assets and preserving natural heritage is noteworthy. For this reason, the present study takes various scientific contributions as the background for considering sustainable education as a fundamental instrument to recover and conserve heritage resources, both from an informative and educational point of view. The aim of this study was to assess the training of new teachers in terms of the particular skills needed to develop active learning methods related to the teaching of heritage sustainability. The research sample consisted of 488 students in the Degree in Primary Education program. The methodology combined both qualitative and quantitative techniques, to obtain information from both observation and an opinion survey given to the students. The results show several opinions related to achieving and facilitating the implementation of innovative methodologies, due to a lack of initial university training. Generally speaking, this work provided an opportunity for students to analyze a series of prejudices regarding their working methods, and to overcome excessive theorization in their university studies
Urban Heat Island Effects in Tropical Climate
This paper reviews some of the characteristics of urban climates and the causes and effects of urban heat island (UHI) issues in the tropical climate. UHI effect is a kind of heat accumulation phenomenon within the urban areas due to urban construction and human activities. It is recognized as the most evident characteristic of urban climate. The increase of land surface temperature in San Juan, Puerto Rico, caused by the UHI effect was influenced by the change of land use and material types in construction. The impacts of daily temperature, surface albedo, evapotranspiration (ET), and anthropogenic heating on the near-surface climate are discussed. Analyzed data and field measurements indicate that increasing albedo and vegetation cover can be effective in reducing the surface and air temperatures near the ground. Some mitigation and prevention measures are proposed for the effects of UHI, such as a flash flood warning system

We report on some recent developments in understanding the nature of the
low-lying mesonic resonances , , ,
, and . In particular we show that these five
resonances can be dynamically generated from vector meson--vector meson
interaction in a coupled-channel unitary approach, which utilizes the
phenomenologically very successful hidden-gauge Lagrangians to produce the
interaction kernel between two vector mesons, which is then unitarized by the
Bethe-Salpeter-equation method. The data on the strong decay branching ratios,
total decay widths, and radiative decay widths of these five states, and on
related decay processes can all be well described by such an approach.
We also make predictions, compare them with the results of earlier studies, and
highlight observables that if measured can be used to distinguish different

Estudio comparativo de los parámetros calidad de la leche, caracterÃsticas tecnológicas y producción quesera de la Raza Merina de Grazalema frente al cruce con razas foráneas
En los últimos años se están incorporando masivamente
en España, en general, y en AndalucÃa, en
particular, razas ovinas foráneas de aptitud lechera,
fundamentalmente las razas Assaf, Awassi y Lacaune.
Su introducción está fomentando, asimismo, la realización
de cruces indiscriminados con nuestras razas
ovinas autóctonas, de aptitud lechera pero de menor
especialización, al menos cuantitativamente (Casas et
al., 2005).
El objetivo de este estudio ha sido analizar en dos
grupos de animales de un mismo rebaño (ovejas puras
de raza Merina de Grazalema, y ovejas cruzadas
Merina de Grazalema x Awassi) las caracterÃsticas de
la producción lechera, y proceder a la elaboración de
quesos para estudiar las posibles diferencias tecnológicas
de los quesos derivados de ambas elaboraciones.
A través del mismo se ha comprobado una mayor producción
lechera de las ovejas cruzadas (167.35±13.20
kg frente a 136.84±4.25 kg) pero con un porcentaje de
grasa (6.25±0.34 % frente a 8.27±0.22 %), proteÃna
(4.71±0.14 % frente a 5.80±0.09 %) y extracto seco
(10.97±0.46 % frente a 14.07±0.28 %), estadÃsticamente
inferior. En cuanto a los parámetros de aptitud tecnológica,
los valores de tiempo de coagulación medio (24.70±0.77
minutos), dureza media (dureza del coágulo a los 30 minutos)
de 25.03±2.27 mm, y el rendimiento en cuajada
(327.50±5.70 g/l), mostraron cifras inferiores a las referenciadas
por Casas et al. (2005) para la raza ovina Merina de
Grazalema. Finalmente, la velocidad de endurecimiento
resultó mayor a los valores obtenidos en el trabajo citado
anteriormente (4.59±0.54 min.). Por otro lado, estos mismos
parámetros mostraron valores inferiores en el tiempo
de coagulación (19.60±0.62 minutos), velocidad de endurecimiento
(3.97±0.38 min.) y rendimiento en cuajada
(290.55±6.67), mientras que la dureza media (32.85±2.03
mm) fue superior en las ovejas cruzadas, respecto a los
valores encontrados en esta misma explotación para los
animales puros.
Como consecuencia de todo ello, el rendimiento quesero
real fue del 30.25 % para las ovejas puras frente al
23.70 % de las cruzadas.
Esto determina que la producción quesera real que
se obtiene por oveja pura, sea superior al de la cruzada
(41.38 kg queso fresco/lactación frente a los 39.70 de la
cruzada)
La BasÃlica de Pátzcuaro en Pátzcuaro, México: su innovador sistema estructural en la fachada y cubierta
La basÃlica de Pátzcuaro es el único vestigio del magno proyecto catedralicio que en el S. XVI concibiera Vasco de Quiroga para la diócesis de Michoacán, es en el último tercio de este siglo que la estructura material de la ex catedral y como producto de solicitaciones sÃsmicas que se dan a través de tres siglos, el edificio presenta modificaciones en su estructura, presentándose las finales en el S. XIX. La vulnerabilidad sÃsmica obedece a una obra de fábrica de considerable luz, las intervenciones realizadas en el periodo comprendido de 1850 y 1872, básicamente en la fachada y cubierta, muestran la aplicación de los conocimientos de la época, la singularidad de la cubierta de la basÃlica, consiste en ser el primer edificio histórico que presenta apoyos discontinuos entre la estructura de madera y la corona del muro, interacción que le otorga un comportamiento elástico resultando en un factor de amortiguamiento ante solicitaciones sÃsmicas. Radiative open charm decay of the Y(3940), Z(3930), X(4160) resonances
We determine the radiative decay amplitudes for decay into and , or and of some of the charmonium like
states classified as X,Y,Z resonances, plus some other hidden charm states
which are dynamically generated from the interaction of vector mesons with
charm. The mass distributions as a function of the or
invariant mass show a peculiar behavior as a consequence of
the nature of these states. The experimental search of these

Characterization, conservation and loss of dignity at the end-of- life in the emergency department. A qualitative protocol
Aims: to explore and understand the experiences of terminally-ill patients and their relatives regarding dignity during end-of-life care in the emergency department.
Background: the respect given to the concept of dignity is significantly modifying the clinical relationship and the care framework involving the end-of-life patient in palliative care units, critical care units, hospices and their own homes. This situation is applicable to in-hospital emergency departments, where there is a lack of research which takes the experiences of end-of-life patients and their relatives into account.
Design: a phenomenological qualitative study.
Methods: the protocol was approved in December 2016 and will be carried out from December 2016 to December 2020. The Gadamer's philosophical underpinnings will be used in the design and development of the study. The data collection will include participant observation techniques in the Emergency Department, in-depth interviews with terminally-ill patients and focus groups with their relatives. For the data analysis, the field notes and verbatim transcriptions will be read and codified using ATLAS.ti software to search for emerging themes.
Discussion: emerging themes that contribute to comprehending the phenomenon of dignity in end-of-life care in the Emergency Department are expected to be found. This study's results could have important implications in the implementation of new interventions in Emergency Departments. These interventions would be focused on improving: the social acceptance of death, environmental conditions, promotion of autonomy and accompaniment, and assumption (takeover) of dignified actions and attitudes (respect for human rights)
Reticulocyte Maturation Parameters Are Reliable Early Predictors of Hematopoietic Engraftment after Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation
AbstractEarly detection of donor-derived hematopoietic restoration after allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) is a crucial issue in the management of heavily immunocompromised patients. The aim of this prospective study was to validate our previously defined cutoff values for reticulocyte maturation parameters as early predictors of hematopoietic engraftment. Importantly, the effect of clinical variables in reticulocyte engraftment was also sought. For this purpose, we prospectively studied 136 consecutive patients undergoing allo-SCT from related (n = 89) or unrelated (n = 47) donors. High fluorescence reticulocytes (RETH), immature reticulocyte fraction (IRF), mean fluorescence index (MFI), and mean reticulocyte volume (MRV) were automatically measured in peripheral blood samples drawn on a daily basis. We previously defined reticulocyte engraftment when MFI ≥10, RETH ≥3%, IRF ≥10%, and MRV ≥110 fL. Median neutrophil engraftment was 18 days (range, 10-35 days); for reticulocyte parameters, the values were 14 days for IRF (range, 7-45 days), 14 days for MFI (range, 7-43 days), 15 days for RETH (range, 7-43 days), and 21 days for MRV (range, 9-74 days). These differences reached statistical significance for MFI and IRF when compared with standard neutrophil recovery, even when analyzing siblings or unrelated donors separately. In univariate analysis, donor-recipient ABO disparity adversely influenced erythroid engraftment (P = .04 for IRF, P = .03 for MFI), but the infusion of >2.9 × 106/kg of CD34+ cells was associated with a shorter time to reach erythroid engraftment (P = .02 for IRF and MFI). In Cox regression analysis, ≥100/μL neutrophils and IRF ≥10% were predictive parameters for standard neutrophil engraftment. Based on these findings, we suggest that serial measurement of IRF or MFI should be routinely used to trace hematopoietic restoration after allo-SCT because these preceded standard neutrophil recovery by a median of 4 days and are therefore very useful to make clinical decisions
