Variance components and genetic parameters were estimated for total milk production at first lactation (MP1), milkyield adjusted to 305 d and adult equivalent at the first lactation (MP1std), total milk production of the first fivelactations (MP5) and milk yield adjusted to 305 d and mature equivalent of the first five lactations (MP5std). Thedatabases of the Mexican Holstein Association (MHA, n= 43,668) and of the National Bank of Dairy Information(NBDI, n= 120,217) were used. Variances were estimated by REML, using a simple animal model for MP1 and MP1stdand a repeatability animal model for MP5 and MP5std. Heritability estimates ranged from low to moderate for thefirst lactation (0.17 ± 0.009 to 0.49 ± 0.019) and for the first five lactations (0.16 ± 0.006 to 0.41 ± 0.004). Therepeatabilities for MP5 and MP5std ranged from 0.32 ± 0.002 to 0.41 ± 0.004. The inclusion of information of theNBDI on the national evaluations made possible the incorporation of production data that had not been taken intoconsideration before. This inclusion not only improved the accuracy of sire breeding values for milk production, butalso allowed the prediction of breeding values of more foreign and domestic animals with progeny in Mexico.

Pervasive gaps in Amazonian ecological research
Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4
While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge
of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In
the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of
Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus
crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced
environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian
Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by
2050. This means that unless we take immediate action, we will not be able to establish their current status,
much less monitor how it is changing and what is being lostinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Records of 1,289 cows at first calving with different proportions of Bos Indicus and Bos Taurus genes (Charolais,Brown Swiss, Simmental, Holstein Friesian, Salers) were analyzed. The cows were both purebreds and crossbredsfrom a commercial herd born between 1966 and 2006. They were used to estimate the Zebu genes optimum combinationon weaning weight adjusted to 270 d (WW) and age at first calving (AFC) in the tropics of México. Likewise, heterosisretention (RVH) and their contribution to WW and AFC, was estimated. Multiple regressions analysis was used toselect the best two, three or more crossbreed’s model for each trait, according to the square of the multiple correlationcoefficients (R2) and the Mallow statistic (CP). The results showed higher heterosis for WW between 42 to 70 % ofBos indicus genes. On the other hand, the best response to heterosis for a lower AFC was found in a proportionof Zebu genes ranging from 27 to 40 %. The retention of heterosis showed that the greatest potential for WW was76 to 78 % and 79 to 92 % for AFC. These results demonstrate the importance of non-additive effects in bothtraits, and the need for controlled crosses.
In the present study, the Population structure and genetic diversity of 104 Yucatan black hairless pigs (YBH)
and eight Duroc breeds were characterized BY using an SNP50K chip. The population structure was
obtained, as well as the calculation of Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Minor Allele Frequency (MAF),
heterozygosity observed (oH), Relationship (F), Fixation index of individuals within subpopulations (Fis), the
t (outcrossing rate or alogamia index) was made, also the association analysis to identify SNP with
population differences. The genetic component of Duroc in YBH subpopulations is low, from 0.00363 to
0.03532, THUS, IT WAS OBSERVED (appreciating) a subpopulation with greater genetic diversity and
lower values of F and Fis, as well as higher oH and t. SNPs were identified (p<1.213E-50 to p< 6.4E-20),
associated with genes and biological processes. Genes EHF, DST, PDE8A, FOXA1 y VCL are related to
epithelial cell differentiation, morphogenesis, and development of epithelium. 30 SNPs are related to nutrient
metabolism, 23 SNPs to nutrient transport, 11 SNPs to Immunity, 10 SNPs to muscle, skeletal and
embryonic, and 7 SNPs to synapses and receptors. YBH is distant from Duroc with different population
structure and genetic diversity, also with different genes that involve important biological processesLa estructura poblacional y diversidad genética de 104 cerdos negros lampiños de Yucatán (NLY) y ocho
músculo, esqueleto y embrionario, y siete SNPs a sinapsis y receptores.
Records of milk production adjusted to 305 d, adult equivalent of the first lactation and two milking were used. Thosecome from the National Breeding in Mexico PNMG (n= 163.885), which includes records of the Holstein Associationof Mexico (AHM) (n= 43.668) and National Bank of Dairy Information (BNIL) (n= 120.217). Best Linear UnbiasedPredictor method was used to predict breeding values (VG) of animals. ASREML software was used with an animalmodel that included herd-year group-season as fixed effect and animal and residue as random effects. Averages ofVG per sire were estimated weighted by the number of daughters and unweighted for PNMG, AHM and BNIL. Also,we estimated the weighted average of the sires VG of the PNMG according to their country of origin (USA, Canada,Other, Mexico). We also estimated the average of VG and phenotypic values (VF) for dairy cows. The average of VFand VG for cows PNMG, AHM and BNIL increased between 2007 and 2011. Breeders of the AHM chose sires withgreater VG than the BNIL. However, breeders of BNIL used sires with high VG used more frequently. The VG forforeign sires were higher than national sires and were more commonly used by farmers.
