SPIRITUALITY AND PSYCHOLOGY IN THE FACE OF SUFFERING AND ILLNESS

Get PDF
This contribution aims to explore the main aspects and concerns due to suffering and illness in psychological and spiritual terms. It will be given to everyone in life to make experiences of suffering and sickness - even if for the latter not necessarily in the first person -, dramas and fundamental faces of humanity inaggirabili of our earthly pilgrimage, despite the narcissism of a society that tends to anesthetize every little human pain and suffering. In general one is never fully equipped to face suffering and illness, especially when it involves a lot of pain, and basically all possible declensions to understand them fail, at least partially, the enterprise. Without any pretension of resolving the issue, occasionally bringing it up may offer or remind us of the existence of some possibility of meaning and significance, thus contributing to greater understanding and acceptance. Appealing to the Bible and to Christ himself, and particularly to some extremely significant experiences, including the figure of Job and the experience of V. Frankl, the "nonsense" of suffering and illness could take on an unthought out meaning and face, and encounter a healing that goes beyond the purely, though important, corporal. The revisitation of the psychological and spiritual dimensions, the latter not always easily accepted, sometimes completely rejected, could thus become weapons and support in the common and often daily intrusiveness of suffering and illness. Thus, after a brief anthropological passage, these will be addressed in their main psychological and spiritual dimensions, in order to find possible ways of meaning, which often seemingly or superficially seems impossible to exist

Previdenza complementare: evoluzione e tendenze

Get PDF
The dissertation consists of three chapters. The first one gives account of the debate about the problems of the arrangement of complementary social security in the constitutional system of the article 38 of the Constitution, which has divided the scholarship between those who want to trace the phenomenon back to the principle of the liberty of private social security in article 38, comma 5, of the Constitution, and on the other hand those who have arranged it at comma 2 of the same article, on the basis of an assumed identity of functions between public and complementary social security. This final reconstruction, above all after the so-called Reform “Amato” has culminated in the jurisprudence of the Supreme Court, which has pronounced itself about the problem with a series of verdicts in regard to the affair of the so-called “contribution of the contribution” e to the one of the subordination of the access criteria for the complementary pension services to the maturity of the provided criteria of the compulsory system. The next chapter regards the verification of the up-to-dateness and consistency of the position of the Supreme Court in the light of the evolution of the subject of pension funds. In the third chapter, ultimately, will be tackled several open questions on the topic of the so-called “pre-existing” pension funds susceptible to rise concerns regarding the necessity to guaranty the expectations and the rights of their members

Conservative treatment of unicystic mural ameloblastoma

Mural ameloblastoma is a subtype of Unicystic Ameloblastoma characterised by the expansion or infiltration of tumour nodules into the fibrous wall of the cyst. The behaviour of this subtype is highly aggressive, with a risk of recurrence comparable with that of Conventional Ameloblastoma. Consequently, the preferred treatment for Unicystic mural Ameloblastom is broad resection of the tumour. In this case report we describe the successful conservative treatment of a Unicystic mural Ameloblastom associated with an impacted tooth. The conservative treatment consinsted in a initial marsupialization followed by the enucleation of the lesion performed with a lateral corticotomy to create a “bone door” and the relocation of the “bone door” using microplates and titanium screws. Our conservative approach preserved the integrity of the inferior alveolar nerve as well as mandibular functionality and resulted in a good aesthetic outcome. Due to the behaviour of this lesion, a strict follow up is mandatory. In our experience, follow-up is conducted as long as possible regardless of the surgical treatment. This protocol includes Cone Beam CT performed 1 year after surgery and panoramic radiology (OPG) once a year until 5 years after surgery. OPG is then repeated every 3 years in patients with Unicystic Ameloblastoma and every 2 years in those with Conventional Ameloblastoma or ameloblastoma with mural invasion. Suspected recurrence should be evaluated by CBCT

Enucleation of a multilocular odontogenic keratocyst using sagittal osteotomy: A case report

Odontogenic keratocysts are significant cysts of the jaw that are characterized by aggressive behavior and a high tendency to recur. The treatments of choice may be radical or conservative, and in the literature a debate is still open about the gold standard in the treatment of OKCs.This report describes a wide multilocular OKC extended in the right mandibular ramus and illustrates atypical behavior of a cystic lobe after marsupialization, not found to our knowledge in the previous literature. Moreover, an orthognathic procedure, consisting of sagittal osteotomy was chosen for the excision of the cyst to preserve as much bone as possible and the integrity of the inferior alveolar nerve

Histological changes in odontogenic parakeratinized keratocysts treated with marsupialization followed by enucleation

The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether marsupialization treatment induces changes in the histology of odontogenic keratocyst epithelium and to compare our experience with the literature. A retrospective revision of histological samples was performed. 5 patients with odontogenic keratocyst treated with marsupialization follow by enucleation were selected. Histologic evaluation analyzed the changes in the keratocyst epithelium after marsupialization in terms of type of keratinization, thickness of the epithelium and connective tissue, the presence of acanthosis, the presence and grade of fibrosis, the type and grade of inflammation and the presence and number of mitotic figures and daughter cysts. In our case series, a variation of para-keratinized into ortho-keratinized keratocyst was found in one case, and no significant increases were observed in the epithelium and capsule thickness, or even in the level of inflammation. However, we observed an increase in fibrosis and qualitative changes in inflammation type. Minor and major histological changes were associated with reduction in cyst volume, which resulted in a simpler and less invasive cystic enucleation after marsupialization

Sustainable Consumption Behavior in Sub-Saharan Africa: A Conceptual Framework

Get PDF
This paper develops a conceptual framework for investigating the adoption patterns, inhibitors, and facilitators ( PIF ) of sustainable consumption in sub-Sahara African ( SSA ) settings. Literature evidence shows paucity of empirical studies on sustainable consumption from SSA , which partly explains lack of suitable conceptual framework to guide research in this area. Also, the existing frameworks, which were developed outside SSA may not be suitable for constructing sustainable consumption behavior in SSA because of its peculiarities. The key signifi cance of this article is the potential of providing future researchers in this area with a framework to guide and manage their studies. As a conceptual article, insight was drawn from a plethora of scholarly articles in the domain of sustainable consumption and related areas. The framework is built on four key constructs—adoption patterns, inhibitors, facilitators ( PIF ), and intention. As a guide for studies from the SSA , the article includes an empirical section, which provides preliminary empirical validation for the proposed PIF conceptual framework based on a pilot test. The result from the pilot study, using structural equation modeling ( SEM ), led to positing the PIF Sustainable Consumption model, thus giving support for the PIF Conceptual Framework, which this article puts forward. In addition, the proposed PIF conceptual framework is capable of providing insight for crafting sustainability-related policies. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc

The importance of a taste. A comparative study on wild food plant consumption in twenty-one local communities in Italy

A comparative food ethnobotanical study was carried out in twenty-one local communities in Italy, fourteen of which were located in Northern Italy, one in Central Italy, one in Sardinia, and four in Southern Italy. 549 informants were asked to name and describe food uses of wild botanicals they currently gather and consume. Data showed that gathering, processing and consuming wild food plants are still important activities in all the selected areas. A few botanicals were quoted and cited in multiple areas, demonstrating that there are ethnobotanical contact points among the various Italian regions (Asparagus acutifolius, Reichardia picroides, Cichorium intybus, Foeniculum vulgare, Sambucus nigra, Silene vulgaris, Taraxacum officinale, Urtica dioica, Sonchus and Valerianella spp.). One taxon (Borago officinalis) in particular was found to be among the most quoted taxa in both the Southern and the Northern Italian sites
