The analysis of the regularities characterizing the existing rate of female early-stage entrepreneurial activity, as well as the identification of reserves for female entrepreneurship growth is relevant nowadays. The purpose of the work is to assess the rates of entrepreneurial activity of women, their motivational preferences, and comparative analysis of female and male early-stage entrepreneurial activities. The study is based on the economic analysis of the data on 48 countries, presented in the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor report for 2018. Normal distribution density functions are used in the modeling process. The research reveals features of female entrepreneurship and the barriers to its development. The paper defines countries with high and low values of the considered indicators. The study estimates the existing rates of opportunity and necessity motivation of female entrepreneurs, presents the analysis of the ratio of female to male participation in early- stage entrepreneurial activity, and proves the hypothesis on substantial differentiation of these indicators across countries. The obtained knowledge can be used in future scientific research, in the educational process of bachelors and masters training. The scientific novelty lies in the study of the distribution of indicators characterizing female entrepreneurs’ motivation and the existing gender gap in early-stage entrepreneurship. The study proposes new methods and tools for the analysis and presents a comparative analysis of the development of female and male early-stage entrepreneurship

Background. Subtitling as a type of audiovisual translation has gained great popularity in recent decades. Compared to other types of audiovisual translation, the production of subtitles for films, TV series, and animated films takes less time and requires fewer financial costs. Purpose. The purpose of this article is to identify the difficulties faced by a translator in the subtitled translation of animated films. To do this, it is necessary to identify the essence and features of subtitling; identify the difficulties that translators may face in the process of subtitled translation; determine strategies for subtitled translation of animated films. Materials and Methods. To solve the tasks set, both theoretical and practical research methods were used: analysis of literature on translation theory and audiovisual translation as a special aspect of translation studies; analysis and interpretation of strategies for subtitled translation of the Strange Planet animated series. Results. The results of the study showed that audiovisual translation is a special type of translation, which includes the adaptation of texts with a complex structure combining elements coming through different channels of perception. Animated films also belong to such texts. The paper lists the features of their subtitling using the example of translating the Strange Planet cartoon series from English to Russian. Practical implications. The results of the research can be used in the practical activities of the translator, when compiling subtitles for animated films

Proverbs of the Eastern Slavs in a Comparative Lexicographic Representation

    Get PDF
The main provisions of the concept of comparative vocabulary representation of East Slavic proverbs, developed by the lexicographers of St. Petersburg and Pskov universities are presented. The principles of macrostructuring of the “Big Russian-Ukrainian-Belarusian dictionary of proverbs are formulated”. The methods of parametrization of paremiological parallels and uniqueness are substantiated. The relevance of the study in the modern sociopolitical situation is determined by the need to strengthen the traditions of objective interpretation of the ethno-linguistic unity of the Eastern Slavs. The novelty of the research lies in the appeal to the paremiological material that has not been developed in a comparative lexicographic aspect and an innovative approach to its lexicography. It is proved that the value of the dictionary as an ethnolinguistic and linguoaxiological source will increase due to the combination of the thematic organization of the material, marking the similarities and differences in the presentation of paremiological parallels and combining the paremias under axiological headings. Particular attention is paid to the identification and vocabulary representation of complete interlingual paremiological equivalents, the establishment of the types of correspondences for partial equivalents, the description of their ethno-specific elements. The possibilities of implementing the comparative aspect are shown when using the format of the lexicographic representation of the axiological content of the paremias proposed by the authors. It is emphasized that the developed lexicographic concept will make it possible to present the East Slavic paremiological space in the unity and diversity of structural and semantic models, linguistic images, axiological vectors and will contribute to the improvement of the system of comparative paremiography

Reconstruction of Transcription Control Networks in Mollicutes by High-Throughput Identification of Promoters

    Get PDF
Bacteria of the class Mollicutes have significantly reduced genomes and gene expression control systems. They are also efficient pathogens that can colonize a broad range of hosts including plants and animals. Despite their simplicity, Mollicutes demonstrate complex transcriptional responses to various conditions, which contradicts their reduction in gene expression regulation mechanisms. We analyzed the conservation and distribution of transcription regulators across the 50 Mollicutes species. The majority of the transcription factors regulate transport and metabolism, and there are four transcription factors that demonstrate significant conservation across the analyzed bacteria. These factors include repressors of chaperone HrcA, cell cycle regulator MraZ and two regulators with unclear function from the WhiA and YebC/PmpR families. We then used three representative species of the major clades of Mollicutes (Acholeplasma laidlawii, Spiroplasma melliferum and Mycoplasma gallisepticum) to perform promoters mapping and activity quantitation. We revealed that Mollicutes evolved towards a promoter architecture simplification that correlates with a diminishing role of transcription regulation and an increase in transcriptional noise. Using the identified operons structure and a comparative genomics approach, we reconstructed the transcription control networks for these three species. The organization of the networks reflects the adaptation of bacteria to specific conditions and hosts

Novel nucleosomal particles containing core histones and linker DNA but no histone H1

Eukaryotic chromosomal DNA is assembled into regularly spaced nucleosomes, which play a central role in gene regulation by determining accessibility of control regions. The nucleosome contains ∼147 bp of DNA wrapped ∼1.7 times around a central core histone octamer. The linker histone, H1, binds both to the nucleosome, sealing the DNA coils, and to the linker DNA between nucleosomes, directing chromatin folding. Micrococcal nuclease (MNase) digests the linker to yield the chromatosome, containing H1 and ∼160 bp, and then converts it to a core particle, containing ∼147 bp and no H1. Sequencing of nucleosomal DNA obtained after MNase digestion (MNase-seq) generates genome-wide nucleosome maps that are important for understanding gene regulation. We present an improved MNase-seq method involving simultaneous digestion with exonuclease III, which removes linker DNA. Remarkably, we discovered two novel intermediate particles containing 154 or 161 bp, corresponding to 7 bp protruding from one or both sides of the nucleosome core. These particles are detected in yeast lacking H1 and in H1-depleted mouse chromatin. They can be reconstituted in vitro using purified core histones and DNA. We propose that these \u27proto-chromatosomes\u27 are fundamental chromatin subunits, which include the H1 binding site and influence nucleosome spacing independently of H1

AIM: Evaluation of the impact of climatic factors on the formation of mortality due to circulatory diseases and a group of diseases related to alcohol consumption identified as alcohol-dependent. METHODS: The study subject was the adult population residing in different climatic zones of Russia: in the second, third and fourth zones, with different conditions: average annual temperature (5.2°C; 1-2°C; -2.0°C), snow cover duration (≤ 150 days, ≤ 180 days, ≈ 220 days) sunshine duration and the presence of polar night and polar day in the territory of the fourth climatic zone. The assessment “impact-case of death†was carried out by calculating the standardized incidence ratio (SIR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) for circulatory system diseases (CSD) and alcohol-dependent diseases (ADD) in accordance with the international classification of diseases (ICD-X). RESULTS: The SIR of death from alcohol-dependent diseases for the female population in the 4th climatic zone (Murmansk Region) was the highest: the SIR of death from ADD 1.87; 95% CI (1.5-2.7), the SIR of death from CSD 1.3; 95% CI (1.2-2.3). For the female population in the 3rd climatic zone (Novosibirsk Region), the SIR of death has amounted to: SIRADD 1.52; 95% CI (1.2-1.87), SIRCSD 1.14; 95 CI (1.01-1.3). Living in the 3rd climatic zone was not so important for the health of the male population: the SIR of death from CSD 1.1; 95% CI (1.05-1.13); the SIR of death from ADD 0.8; 95% CI (0.65-0.98). However, living in the 4th climatic zone (Murmansk Region) poses a higher risk of death for the male population: SIRCSD 1.22 (22.0%); 95% CI (1.02-3.95); SIRADD 1.45 (45.0%); 95% CI (0.98-2.1). CONCLUSION: Living in high northern latitudes contributes to higher levels of mortality, both female and male, from circulatory and alcohol-dependent diseases

Positive experience with TNF-α inhibitor in toxic epidermal necrolysis resistant to high-dose systemic corticosteroids

    Get PDF
Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are rare, potentially life-threatening syndromes characterized by the development of necrotic epidermal and mucosal lesions. The most common etiologic cause of SJS/TEN is drug-induced mechanisms. The group of drugs with high potential risk includes sulfonamides, anticonvulsants, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), allopurinol, phenobarbital, etc. There is no gold standard treatment algorithm for SJS/TEN. In medical practice, systemic glucocorticosteroids (sGCS), intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), plasmapheresis, and cyclosporine are used empirically and in various combinations. Recently published studies have demonstrated the efficacy of TNF-α inhibitors as a promising approach in SJS/TEN, including cases resistant to high-dose sGCS, with etanercept and infliximab being the most commonly used drugs. In a large multicenter study by Zhang J et al. (XXXX), 242 patients treated with etanercept, sGCS, or a combination of both had lower mortality compared to the control group. A shorter skin healing time was documented compared to sGCS monotherapy, thus reducing the risk of secondary infections. The published data show a high efficacy with THF-α inhibitor blockade, but the safety of TNF-α inhibitors in patients with SJS/TEN is still questionable due to the paucity of available information. As all clinical research data should be accumulated to provide reliable evidence that the use of TNF-α inhibitors may be beneficial in SJS/TEN, we report a case of etoricoxib-associated SJS with progression to TEN in a 50-year-old woman who was refractory to high-dose sGCS therapy

Relevance. Abnormal epigenetic regulation of genes responsible for the development of the embryo and placenta is associated with many pregnancy pathologies. Aim. The aim of this work was to analyze the prevalence of abnormal methylation of the PRDM16 and PTPRN2 genes in chorionic villi of spontaneous abortions with normal karyotype and with the most frequent aneuploidies (trisomy 16 and monosomy X). Materials and Methods. The methylation profile was evaluated using targeted bisulfite massive parallel sequencing in chorionic villi of induced abortions (n = 10), spontaneous abortions with normal karyotype (n = 39), trisomy 16 (n = 17) and monosomy X (n = 20) and peripheral blood lymphocytes of healthy volunteers (n = 6). Results and Discussion. In analyzed genes, differential methylation of individual CpG sites was found in chorionic villi of spontaneous abortions. Despite the absence of significant differences between the groups in the average level of methylation in analyzed gene regions, abnormal methylation of the PRDM16 and PTPRN2 genes were detected for 33 % and 5 % of spontaneous abortions, respectively, indicating a high incidence of epigenetic abnormalities in these genes in the chorionic villi of spontaneous abortions. The level of methylation of the PRDM16 gene significantly correlated with the level of methylation of the retrotransposon LINE-1, which indicates the generalized nature of methylation disorders in spontaneous abortions. Finally, the level of methylation of the PTPRN2 gene depended on the age of mothers of spontaneous abortions with monosomy X, which raises the question of the influence of maternal factors on the methylation profile in this group of spontaneous abortions. Conclusion. The results indicate that epigenetic disorders of the PRDM16 gene may be associated with spontaneous termination of pregnancy in the first trimester
