Single vortices observed as they enter NbSe
We observe single vortices as they penetrate the edge of a superconductor
using a high-sensitivity magneto-optical microscope. The vortices leap across a
gap near the edge, a distance that decreases with increasing applied field and
sample thickness. This behaviour can be explained by the combined effect of the
geometrical barrier and bulk pinning.Comment: 2 pages, 1 figure, M2S-Rio proceeding
Timing of Antidepressant Discontinuation During Pregnancy and Postpartum Psychiatric Outcomes in Denmark and Norway
Importance: Approximately half of women discontinue antidepressant use during pregnancy, yet this could lead to relapse in the postpartum period.
Objective: To investigate the associations between longitudinal antidepressant fill trajectories during pregnancy and postpartum psychiatric outcomes.
Design and setting, and participants: Cohort study using nationwide registers in Denmark and Norway. Participants included 41,475 liveborn singleton pregnancies in Denmark (1997–2016) and 16,459 in Norway (2009–2018) for women who filled at least one antidepressant prescription within six months before pregnancy.
Exposures: Antidepressant prescription fills were obtained from the prescription registers. Antidepressant treatment during pregnancy was modeled using longitudinal k-means.
Main outcomes and measures: Initiating psycholeptics, psychiatric emergency, or records of self-harm within one year postpartum. Hazard ratio (HR) of each psychiatric outcome was estimated using Cox regression models. Inverse probability of treatment weighting was used to control for confounding. Country-specific HRs were pooled using random-effects meta-analytic models.
Results: Of 57,934 pregnancies (mean maternal age range across countries: 30.7– ?? years), [XL1] our trajectories were identified: early discontinuers (about 30% of the population), late discontinuers (previously stable users) (20–25%), late discontinuers (short-term users) (15–20%), and continuers (25–30%). Early discontinuers and late discontinuers (short-term users) had a lower probability of initiating psycholeptics and having postpartum psychiatric emergencies compared to continuers. We found a moderately increased probability of initiation of psycholeptics among late discontinuers (previously stable users) compared to continuers (HR=1.13, 95% CI: 1.03–1.24). This increase in late discontinuers (previously stable users) was more pronounced among women with previous affective disorders (HR=1.28, 95% CI: 1.12–1.47). No association between antidepressant fill trajectories and postpartum self-harm risk was found.
Conclusions and Relevance: Using pooled data from Denmark and Norway, we found a moderately elevated probability of initiation of psycholeptics in late discontinuers (previously stable users) compared to continuers.
[XL1]Mean (SD) age of the study population was 30.7(5.3) year
A Detailed Monte-Carlo Simulation for the Belle TOF System
We have developed a detailed Monte Carlo simulation program for the Belle TOF
system. Based on GEANT simulation, it takes account of all physics processes in
the TOF scintillation counters and readout electronics. The simulation
reproduces very well the performance of the Belle TOF system, including the
dE/dx response, the time walk effect, the time resolution, and the hit
efficiency due to beam background. In this report, we will describe the Belle
TOF simulation program in detail.Comment: To be submitted to NI

This article may be used for non-commercial purposes in accordance with Wiley Terms and Conditions for Use of Self-Archived Versions© 2019 CIWEM Large wood (re)introduction can deliver multiple benefits in river restoration, but there is a dearth of the detailed and longer-term post-project monitoring and evaluation required for improving best practice. We present findings from an academic partnership approach to post-project evaluation, based on successive MSc research projects on restored large wood in the Loddon catchment, UK. Field and modelling data reveal: (i) key differences in large wood features between restored and natural reaches; (ii) increased hydraulic retention and changes to mesohabitats associated with large wood; (iii) differences in macroinvertebrate community composition around large wood but a lack of site-level effects; (iv) interactions between macrophytes and large wood that may be specific to restored reaches; (v) a need for further field and modelling studies to inform the accurate representation of large wood in hydraulic models. Some key challenges in partnership working are identified to aid planning and effectiveness of future collaborations
Observation of the Decays B0->K+pi-pi0 and B0->rho-K+
We report the observation of B^0 decays to the K^+pi^-pi^0 final state using
a data sample of 78 fb^-1 collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e^+e^-
collider. With no assumptions about intermediate states in the decay, the
branching fraction is measured to be (36.6^{+4.2}_{-4.3}+- 3.0)*10^-6.We also
search for B decays to intermediate two-body states with the same K^+pi^-pi^0
final state. Significant B signals are observed in the rho(770)^- K^+ and
K^*(892)^+pi^- channels, with branching fractions of
(15.1^{+3.4+1.4+2.0}_{-3.3-1.5-2.1})* 10^-6 and
(14.8^{+4.6+1.5+2.4}_{-4.4-1.0-0.9})* 10^-6, respectively. The first error is
statistical, the second is systematic and the third is due to the largest
possible interference. Contributions from other possible two-body states will
be discussed. No CP asymmetry is found in the inclusive K^+pi^-pi^0 or rho^-K^+
modes, and we set 90% confidence level bounds on the asymmetry of
-0.12<A_{CP}<0.26 and -0.18<A_{CP}<0.64, respectively.Comment: 18 pages, 7 figure
The global functioning: Social and role scales-further validation in a large sample of adolescents and young adults at clinical high risk for psychosis
Objective: Traditional measures for assessing functioning with adult patients with schizophrenia have been shown to be insufficient for assessing the issues that occur in adolescents and young adults at clinical high risk (CHR) for psychosis. The current study provides an expanded validation of the Global Functioning: Social (GF:Social) and Role (GF:Role) scales developed specifically for use with CHR individuals and explores the reliability and accuracy of the ratings, the validity of the scores in comparison to other established clinical measures, stability of functioning over a 2-year period, and psychosis predictive ability. Methods: Seven hundred fifty-five CHR individuals and 277 healthy control (HC) participants completed the GF:Social and Role scales at baseline as part of the North American Prodrome Longitudinal Study (NAPLS2). Results: Inter-rater reliability and accuracy were high for both scales. Correlations between the GF scores and other established clinical measures demonstrated acceptable convergent and discriminant validity. In addition, GF:Social and Role scores were unrelated to positive symptoms. CHR participants showed large impairments in social and role functioning over 2-years, relative to the HCs, even after adjusting for age, IQ, and attenuated positive symptoms. Finally, social decline prior to baseline was more pronounced in CHR converters, relative to non-converters. Conclusions: The GF scales can be administered in a large-scale multi-site study with excellent inter-rater reliability and accuracy. CHR individuals showed social and role functioning impairments over time that were not confounded by positive symptom severity levels. The results of this study demonstrate that social decline is a particularly effective predictor of conversion outcome
Observation of Cabibbo-suppressed and W-exchange Lambda_c^+ baryon decays
We present measurements of the Cabibbo-suppressed decays Lambda_c^+ -->
Lambda0 K+ and Lambda_c^+ --> Sigma0 K+ (both first observations), Lambda_c^+
--> Sigma+ K+ pi- (seen with large statistics for the first time), Lambda_c^+
--> p K+ K- and Lambda_c^+ --> p phi (measured with improved accuracy).
Improved branching ratio measurements for the decays Lambda_c^+ --> Sigma+ K+
K- and Lambda_c^+ --> Sigma+ phi, which are attributed to W-exchange diagrams,
are shown. We also present the first evidence for Lambda_c^+ --> Xi(1690)^0 K+
and set an upper limit on the non-resonant decay Lambda_c^+ --> Sigma+ K+ K-.

Measurement of the inclusive semileptonic branching fraction of B mesons and |Vcb|
We present a measurement of the electron spectrum from inclusive semileptonic
{\it B} decay, using 5.1 fb of data collected with the
Belle detector. A high-momentum lepton tag was used to separate the
semileptonic {\it B} decay electrons from secondary decay electrons. We
obtained the branching fraction, , with minimal model dependence.
From this measurement, we derive a value for the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa
matrix element .Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures, 3 table
Determination of |Vcb| using the semileptonic decay \bar{B}^0 --> D^{*+}e^-\bar{\nu}
We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix
element |Vcb| using a 10.2 fb^{-1} data sample recorded at the \Upsilon(4S)
resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e^+e^- storage ring.
By extrapolating the differential decay width of the \bar{B}^0 -->
D^{*+}e^-\bar{\nu} decay to the kinematic limit at which the D^{*+} is at rest
with respect to the \bar{B}^0, we extract the product of |Vcb| with the
normalization of the decay form factor F(1), |Vcb |F(1)=
(3.54+/-0.19+/-0.18)x10^{-2}, where the first error is statistical and the
second is systematic. A value of |Vcb| = (3.88+/-0.21+/-0.20+/-0.19)x10^{-2} is
obtained using a theoretical calculation of F(1), where the third error is due
to the theoretical uncertainty in the value of F(1). The branching fraction
B(\bar{B}^0 --> D^{*+}e^-\bar{\nu}) is measured to be
(4.59+/-0.23+/-0.40)x10^{-2}.Comment: 20 pages, 6 figures, elsart.cls, submitted to PL
Plasma polyphenols associated with lower high-sensitivity C-reactive protein concentrations: a cross-sectional study within the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) cohort
Experimental studies have reported on the anti-inflammatory properties of polyphenols. However, results from epidemiological investigations have been inconsistent and especially studies using biomarkers for assessment of polyphenol intake have been scant. We aimed to characterise the association between plasma concentrations of thirty-five polyphenol compounds and low-grade systemic inflammation state as measured by high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP). A cross-sectional data analysis was performed based on 315 participants in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition cohort with available measurements of plasma polyphenols and hsCRP. In logistic regression analysis, the OR and 95 % CI of elevated serum hsCRP (>3 mg/l) were calculated within quartiles and per standard deviation higher level of plasma polyphenol concentrations. In a multivariable-adjusted model, the sum of plasma concentrations of all polyphenols measured (per standard deviation) was associated with 29 (95 % CI 50, 1) % lower odds of elevated hsCRP. In the class of flavonoids, daidzein was inversely associated with elevated hsCRP (OR 0 center dot 66, 95 % CI 0 center dot 46, 0 center dot 96). Among phenolic acids, statistically significant associations were observed for 3,5-dihydroxyphenylpropionic acid (OR 0 center dot 58, 95 % CI 0 center dot 39, 0 center dot 86), 3,4-dihydroxyphenylpropionic acid (OR 0 center dot 63, 95 % CI 0 center dot 46, 0 center dot 87), ferulic acid (OR 0 center dot 65, 95 % CI 0 center dot 44, 0 center dot 96) and caffeic acid (OR 0 center dot 69, 95 % CI 0 center dot 51, 0 center dot 93). The odds of elevated hsCRP were significantly reduced for hydroxytyrosol (OR 0 center dot 67, 95 % CI 0 center dot 48, 0 center dot 93). The present study showed that polyphenol biomarkers are associated with lower odds of elevated hsCRP. Whether diet rich in bioactive polyphenol compounds could be an effective strategy to prevent or modulate deleterious health effects of inflammation should be addressed by further well-powered longitudinal studies
