    Prospects for the Measurement of the Higgs Yukawa Couplings to b and c quarks, and muons at CLIC

    The investigation of the properties of the Higgs boson, especially a test of the predicted linear dependence of the branching ratios on the mass of the final state is going to be an integral part of the physics program at colliders at the energy frontier for the foreseeable future. The large Higgs boson production cross section at a 3TeV CLIC machine allows for a precision measurement of the Higgs branching ratios. The cross section times branching ratio of the decays H->bb, H->cc and H->{\mu}{\mu} of a Standard Model Higgs boson with a mass of 120 GeV can be measured with a statistical uncertainty of 0.23%, 3.1% and 15%, respectively, assuming an integrated luminosity of 2 ab-1.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

    A Technological Scenario for a Healthier, More Equitable and Sustainable Europe in 2040: Citizen Perceptions and Policy Implications

Available from MDPI via the DOI in this record.This article aims at exploring, understanding and comparing European citizens’ insights and perceptions towards “My life between realities”, a positive future scenario which depicts a narrative of reaching healthier, more equitable and sustainable societies by 2040 with the support of technology and technological solutions. It responds to the need for gathering and incorporating more citizen insights into future policy developments and strategic actions to tackle the global challenge of unsustainable development. Citizens of five European countries—the Czech Republic, Germany, North Macedonia, Spain and the United Kingdom—have been consulted through focus groups. The exercise has uncovered citizens’ preferences and attitudes towards four main lifestyle areas; namely, green spaces, energy efficient housing, active mobility and (food) consumption. The technological attributes of the scenario led to citizens expressing diametrically opposed and critical perceptions and attitudes. Given the prospects of technology in driving sustainable development, based on these insights, policy recommendations for the better integration and acceptance of technological advances by the public are discussed herein.European Commissio

    How to achieve a healthier and more sustainable europe by 2040 according to the public? Results of a five-country questionnaire survey

    The aim of this paper is to understand public preferences for several future scenarios of achieving a healthier, more equitable and sustainable Europe, which differ in the way the society is organized (individualistically vs. collectively) and in the driving sector (public vs. private). To achieve this aim, we conducted a questionnaire survey using representative samples for five European countries in 2018. About three thousand respondents chose among the four scenarios presented within four different contexts (green spaces, active mobility, energy-efficient housing, food consumption) or none of them. A majority of people in the five European countries were ready to accept one of the scenarios. We found significant differences in preferences according to socioeconomic backgrounds and values of respondents. People above 35 years old, those who were less educated, and those in the lowest household income tertile were less supportive of all scenarios. The heterogeneity in preferences associated with differences in socioeconomic backgrounds was larger for the scenario in which society is organized individualistically and driven by the private sector. Smaller distinctions were found in case of the scenario in which society is organized collectively and is driven by the public sector. Departing from social psychological theories, we examine the role of altruistic, biospheric, egoistic, hedonic, and security values. People with stronger biospheric values were more likely to accept scenarios, particularly those which are driven by the public sector and where there is more collective organisation. Those with a more egoistic value orientation were more likely to have higher preferences for scenarios where the private sector had a dominant role.     Dynamics of conflicts in Wikipedia

    In this work we study the dynamical features of editorial wars in Wikipedia (WP). Based on our previously established algorithm, we build up samples of controversial and peaceful articles and analyze the temporal characteristics of the activity in these samples. On short time scales, we show that there is a clear correspondence between conflict and burstiness of activity patterns, and that memory effects play an important role in controversies. On long time scales, we identify three distinct developmental patterns for the overall behavior of the articles. We are able to distinguish cases eventually leading to consensus from those cases where a compromise is far from achievable. Finally, we analyze discussion networks and conclude that edit wars are mainly fought by few editors only.Comment: Supporting information adde

    Search for Bhννˉ\boldsymbol{B\to h\nu\bar{\nu}} decays with semileptonic tagging at Belle

    We present the results of a search for the rare decays BhννB\to h\nu\overline{\nu}, where hh stands for K+,KS0,K+,K0,π+,π0,ρ+K^+,\:K^0_{\mathrm{S}},\:K^{\ast +},\:K^{\ast 0},\:\pi^+,\:\pi^0,\:\rho^+ and ρ0\rho^{0}. The results are obtained with 772×106772\times10^{6} BBB\overline{B} pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e+ee^+ e^- collider. We reconstruct one BB meson in a semileptonic decay and require a single hh meson but nothing else on the signal side. We observe no significant signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions. The limits set on the BKS0ννB\to K^0_{\mathrm{S}}\nu\overline{\nu}, B0K0ννB^0\to K^{*0}\nu\overline{\nu}, Bπ+ννB\to \pi^+\nu\overline{\nu}, B0π0ννB^0\to\pi^0\nu\overline{\nu}, B+ρ+ννB^+\to\rho^+\nu\overline{\nu}, and B0ρ0ννB^0\to\rho^0\nu\overline{\nu} channels are the world's most stringent.Comment: Submitted to PR

    Evidence for Isospin Violation and Measurement of CPCP Asymmetries in BK(892)γB \to K^{\ast}(892) \gamma

    We report the first evidence for isospin violation in BKγB \to K^* \gamma and the first measurement of difference of CPCP asymmetries between B+K+γB^+ \to K^{*+} \gamma and B0K0γB^0 \to K^{*0} \gamma. This analysis is based on the data sample containing 772×106BBˉ772 \times 10^6 B\bar{B} pairs that was collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+ee^+ e^- collider. We find evidence for the isospin violation with a significance of 3.1σ\sigma, Δ0+=(+6.2±1.5(stat.)±0.6(syst.)±1.2(f+/f00))\Delta_{0+} = (+6.2 \pm 1.5 ({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.6 ({\rm syst.}) \pm 1.2 (f_{+-}/f_{00}))\%, where the third uncertainty is due to the uncertainty on the fraction of B+BB^+B^- to B0Bˉ0B^0\bar{B}^0 production in Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) decays. The measured value is consistent with predictions of the SM. The result for the difference of CPCP asymmetries is ΔACP=(+2.4±2.8(stat.)±0.5(syst.))\Delta A_{CP} = (+2.4 \pm 2.8({\rm stat.}) \pm 0.5({\rm syst.}))\%, consistent with zero. The measured branching fractions and CPCP asymmetries for charged and neutral BB meson decays are the most precise to date. We also calculate the ratio of branching fractions of B0K0γB^0 \to K^{*0} \gamma to Bs0ϕγB_s^0 \to \phi \gamma.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures. shown at FPCP2017. accepted by PR

    Measurement of the Branching Fraction of the Decay B+π+π+ν\boldsymbol{B^{+}\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\ell^{+}\nu_\ell} in Fully Reconstructed Events at Belle

    We present an analysis of the exclusive B+π+π+νB^{+}\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\ell^{+}\nu_{\ell} decay, where \ell represents an electron or a muon, with the assumption of charge-conjugation symmetry and lepton universality. The analysis uses the full Υ(4S)\Upsilon(4S) data sample collected by the Belle detector, corresponding to 711 fb1^{-1} of integrated luminosity. We select the events by fully reconstructing one BB meson in hadronic decay modes, subsequently determining the properties of the other BB meson. We extract the signal yields using a binned maximum-likelihood fit to the missing-mass squared distribution in bins of the invariant mass of the two pions or the momentum transfer squared. We measure a total branching fraction of B(B+π+π+ν)=[22.71.6+1.9(stat)±3.5(syst)]×105{{\cal B}(B^{+}\to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}\ell^{+}\nu_{\ell})= [22.7 ^{+1.9}_{-1.6} (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 3.5(\mathrm{syst}) ]\times 10^{-5}}, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.
