Effective field theory analysis of 3D random field Ising model on isometric lattices
Ising model with quenched random magnetic fields is examined for single
Gaussian, bimodal and double Gaussian random field distributions by introducing
an effective field approximation that takes into account the correlations
between different spins that emerge when expanding the identities. Random field
distribution shape dependencies of the phase diagrams and magnetization curves
are investigated for simple cubic, body centered and face centered cubic
lattices. The conditions for the occurrence of reentrant behavior and
tricritical points on the system are also discussed in detail.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figure
Nonequilibrium phase transitions and stationary state solutions of a three-dimensional random-field Ising model under a time dependent periodic external field
Nonequilibrium behavior and dynamic phase transition properties of a kinetic
Ising model under the influence of periodically oscillating random-fields have
been analyzed within the framework of effective field theory (EFT) based on a
decoupling approximation (DA). Dynamic equation of motion has been solved for a
simple cubic lattice () by utilizing a Glauber type stochastic process.
Amplitude of the sinusoidally oscillating magnetic field is randomly
distributed on the lattice sites according to bimodal and trimodal distribution
functions. For a bimodal type of amplitude distribution, it is found in the
high frequency regime that the dynamic phase diagrams of the system in
temperature versus field amplitude plane resemble the corresponding phase
diagrams of pure kinetic Ising model. Our numerical results indicate that for a
bimodal distribution, both in the low and high frequency regimes, the dynamic
phase diagrams always exhibit a coexistence region in which the stationary
state (ferro or para) of the system is completely dependent on the initial
conditions whereas for a trimodal distribution, coexistence region disappears
depending on the values of system parameters.Comment: 11 pages, 11 figure
A hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis case with newly defined UNC13D (C.175G>C; p.Ala59Pro) mutation and a rare complication
Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) represents a severe hyperinflammatory condition with cardinal symptoms of prolonged fever, cytopenias, hepatosplenomegaly, and hemophagocytosis by activated, morphologically benign macrophages with impaired function of natural killer cells and cytotoxic T lymphocytes. A 2-month-old girl, who was admitted with fever, was diagnosed with HLH and her genetic examination revealed a newly defined mutation in the UNC13D (c.175G>C; p.Ala59Pro) gene. She was treated with dexamethasone, etoposide, and intrathecal methotrexate. During the second week of treatment, after three doses of etoposide, it was noticed that there was a necrotic plaque lesion on the soft palate. Pathologic examination of debrided material in PAS and Grocott staining revealed lots of septated hyphae, which was consistent with aspergillosis infection. Etoposide was stopped and amphotericin B treatment was given for six weeks. HLH 2004 protocol was completed to eight weeks with cyclosporine A orally. There was no patient with invasive aspergillosis infection as severe as causing palate and nasal septum perforation during HLH therapy. In immuncompromised patients, fungal infections may cause nasal septum perforation and treatment could be achieved by antifungal therapy and debridement of necrotic tissue. © 2015 Turkish Society of Hematology. Bucolic Complexes
We introduce and investigate bucolic complexes, a common generalization of
systolic complexes and of CAT(0) cubical complexes. They are defined as simply
connected prism complexes satisfying some local combinatorial conditions. We
study various approaches to bucolic complexes: from graph-theoretic and
topological perspective, as well as from the point of view of geometric group
theory. In particular, we characterize bucolic complexes by some properties of
their 2-skeleta and 1-skeleta (that we call bucolic graphs), by which several
known results are generalized. We also show that locally-finite bucolic
complexes are contractible, and satisfy some nonpositive-curvature-like
properties.Comment: 45 pages, 4 figure

FIELD DEVELOPMENT AND POWER GENERATION IN KIZILDERE, TURKEY
Turkey is classified among countries which have high geothermal energy potential. Geological and geophysical explorations are continuing in promising areas. However primary emphasis was given to Western Anatolia during the last decade. As a result of these efforts Kizildere field was developed and power plant was put into operation in February 14, 1984. This paper summarizes the power plant, production problems encountered in wells during the last nine months and future field development plans
Switchable LED-based laparoscopic multispectral system for rapid high-resolution perfusion imaging
SIGNIFICANCE: Multispectral imaging (MSI) is an approach for real-time, quantitative, and non-invasive tissue perfusion measurements. Current laparoscopic systems based on mosaic sensors or filter wheels lack high spatial resolution or acceptable frame rates.AIM: To develop a laparoscopic system for MSI-based color video and tissue perfusion imaging during gastrointestinal surgery without compromising spatial or temporal resolution.APPROACH: The system was built with 14 switchable light-emitting diodes in the visible and near-infrared spectral range, a 4K image sensor, and a 10 mm laparoscope. Illumination patterns were created for tissue oxygenation and hemoglobin content monitoring. The system was calibrated to a clinically approved laparoscopic hyperspectral system using linear regression models and evaluated in an occlusion study with 36 volunteers.RESULTS: The root mean squared errors between the MSI and reference system were 0.073 for hemoglobin content, 0.039 for oxygenation in deeper tissue layers, and 0.093 for superficial oxygenation. The spatial resolution at a working distance of 45 mm was 156 μm. The effective frame rate was 20 fps.CONCLUSIONS: High-resolution perfusion monitoring was successfully achieved. Hardware optimizations will increase the frame rate. Parameter optimizations through alternative illumination patterns, regression, or assumed tissue models are planned. Intraoperative measurements must confirm the suitability during surgery.</p
The effects of some avermectins on bovine carbonic anhydrase enzyme
Avermectins are effective agricultural pesticides and antiparasitic agents that are widely employed in the agricultural, veterinary and medical fields. The aim of this study was to investigate the inhibitory effects of selected avermectins including abamectin, doramectin, emamectin, eprinomectin, ivermectin and moxidectin that are used as drugs against a wide variety of internal and external mammalian parasites, on the carbonic anhydrase enzyme (CA, EC 4.2.1.1.) purified from fresh bovine erythrocyte. CA catalyses the rapid interconversion of carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) to bicarbonate ([Formula: see text]) and protons (H(+)) and regulate the acidity of the local tissues. Bovine erythrocyte CA (bCA) enzyme was purified by Sepharose-4B affinity chromatography with a yield of 21.96% and 262.7-fold purification. The inhibition results obtained from this study showed Ki values of 9.73, 17.39, 20.43, 13.39, 16.44 and 17.73 nM for abamectin, doramectin, emamectin, eprinomectin, ivermectin and moxidectin, respectively. However, acetazolamide, well-known clinically established CA inhibitor, possessed a Ki value of 27.68 nM
Matrix design of a novel ductile cast iron modified by W and Al: A comparison between thermodynamic modeling and experimental data
In high-temperature applications of ferrous materials, as in the case of exhaust manifolds, high thermal and mechanical stability are required. Stainless steels and Ni-resist alloys having austenitic matrices are good candidates to meet these requirements at elevated temperatures; however, they are expensive materials and present difficulties in casting. Ferritic ductile cast irons, like the commercial SiMo alloy, are comparatively cheaper materials with better castability but they cannot be used above approximately 800 °C. Thus, to meet the requirements with low-cost materials having improved high-temperature properties, new alloys must be developed by ferrite forming elements having the potential to increase equilibrium temperature. In this study, initially, a novel ductile cast iron matrix was designed using 1 W and 0-4 Al wt.-% and their phases stable at room temperature, transformation temperatures, solidification sequences and thermal expansivity values were determined using thermodynamic calculations with Thermo-Calc software. Computational studies revealed that (i) designed alloy matrices had graphite and M6C type carbides embedded in a ferritic matrix at room temperature as expected, (ii) A1 temperature increased as aluminum content increased. The obtained values were all above that of commercial SiMo alloy, (iii) the detrimental effect of increased aluminum addition on graphite content, and thermal expansivity was observed. Secondly, microstructural and thermal characterizations of cast alloys were performed for validation - the obtained data were in good agreement with the thermodynamic calculations
