Hyperon-nucleon interaction and baryonic contact terms in SU(3) chiral effective field theory

In this proceeding we summarize results for baryonic contact terms derived within SU(3) chiral effective field theory. The four-baryon contact terms, necessary for the description of the hyperon-nucleon interaction, include SU(3) symmetric and explicit chiral symmetry breaking terms. They also include four-baryon contact terms involving pseudoscalar mesons, which become important for three-body forces. Furthermore we derive the leading order six-baryon contact terms in the non-relativistic limit and study their contribution to the ΛNN\Lambda NN three-body contact interaction. These results could play an important role in studies of hypernuclei or hyperons in nuclear matter.Comment: contribution to the proceedings of the Seventh International Symposium on Chiral Symmetry in Hadrons and Nuclei, Beijing, October 2013, 4 pages, 2 figures, 1 tabl

Genetic Algorithm for SU(2) Gauge Theory on a 2-dimensional Lattice

An algorithm is proposed for the simulation of pure SU(N) lattice gauge theories based on Genetic Algorithms(GAs). We apply GAs to SU(2) pure gauge theory on a 2 dimensional lattice and show the results, the action per plaquette and Wilson loops, are consistent with those by Metropolis method(MP)s and Heatbath method(HB)s. Thermalization speed of GAs is especially faster than the simple MPs.Comment: 3 pages,9 figures,LATTICE98(Algorithm), "Genetic Algorithm for SU(N) Gauge Theory on a Lattice

Matrimony: A key element in the demographic system of Modern Europe

In this paper, I summarize Moreno’s work cited above. This summary discusses the factors affecting human natural fertility and also considers European experience during the Modern period. This has been made possible thanks to the advancement of the science of human fertility over the last 60 years. Some theories on “demographic Change” in the 1950’s and 60’s, proposed that human fertility, before ‘the modern transition’, had reached its “biological limit” and the only fundamental variable regulating its changes in the short, medium and long term was ‘mortality’.1 No one doubts that past mortality levels were higher than our contemporary experience. Besides, variations in mortality, be they ordinary or extraordinary (as a result of wars, hunger and infection), played a greater role than presently in regulating population increase. However, it is one hypothesis to admit that mortality played a crucial role in population demographics and another to propose that ultimately variations in population demographics depended exclusively on changes in mortality. Was that really the case? Were there other factors that significantly affected population growth? More, how did western civilization regulate fertility before the demographic transition?

SU(2) reduction in N=4 supersymmetric mechanics

We perform an su(2) Hamiltonian reduction of the general su(2)-invariant action for a self-coupled (4,4,0) supermultiplet. As a result, we elegantly recover the N=4 supersymmetric mechanics with spin degrees of freedom which was recently constructed in arXiv:0812.4276. This observation underscores the exceptional role played by the ``root'' supermultiplet in N=4 supersymmetric mechanics.Comment: 1+3 page
