The World Exhibitions and the display of science, technology and culture: moving boundaries
From the moment the first World Exhibition was held in London, in 1851, these events have served as “windows” to scientific, technological and industrial progress, allowing the circulation and the disclosure of this change, either directly to visitors or through media publications worldwide. Under the realisation of these world events, which attracted many travellers, exhibitions enabled the parallel organisation of international conferences and congresses of professionals both in science and in industry, engineering and architecture

Storytelling in corporate branding : application to a McDonald's Portugal Digital Platform
This dissertation is a theoretical and practical reflection on the presence of Storytelling in Corporate Branding, from a perspective that includes semiotics and narratology in the context of marketing communication strategy. We analyze the merging among the concepts of organizational storytelling, branding storytelling, consumer storytelling and digital media storytelling as they all mingle into a branded dialogue between the company and the consumer. The exploratory research on McDonald's new platform "Histórias com M" was conducted in order to assess the presence of a story form structured communication and to enhance the touching points in the brand's communication, by means of archetypal representation. We found that McDonald's corporate storytelling on branding an employer image essentially communicates inspiration and determination as the key collective and shared elements between (former) workers

Synthesis of the Arts: The Project of Architecture in its Relation with the Process of Design. Carlos Tojal, Manuel Moreira and Carlos Roxo (1960- 1974): Multiplano, a case study.
Within the Theory and History of Material Culture, as well as the Theory of Design, this project relies not on essayistic, but on historiographical based investigation, strongly founded in documental sources. Aiming to reveal inedited documentation, actions and agents witch may contribute to the comprehension of the place of design, has of the culture of project oriented thought within the Portuguese context, it assumes as its object of study the architecture studio Multiplano – therefore, framing the problem of Design in Portugal from its process point of view, rather than from its object.
Established in Lisbon around 1972 by the architects Carlos Tojal (1929-2015), Manuel Moreira (b.1933) and Carlos Roxo (b.1935), three architects known by the “Three Wonders” epithet, Multiplano and its interveners guard witness to several moments of national projectual culture. Between 1961 and 1974, Tojal, Moreira and Roxo have jointly developed a vast and coherent project-oriented and ideological body of products: demarcating up from Beaux-Arts contemplation, ideal Deco, or Modernist interactions to embrace projectual materialist dialectics, extending yet the concept of useful by structurally integrating artistic thinking along the social utopia of design; to be later overtaken by market.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Parents’ perception of health education practices in Neonatal Unit
Objective: to analyze parents’ perception of health education practices developed by nurses in a Neonatal Unit that facilitated the
acquisition of parenting skills for an informed decision-making. Method: this is an exploratory, descriptive and qualitative study.
We included 13 parents with children hospitalized for the first time in a Portuguese Neonatal Unit. Data were collected between
February and August 2020, through focus groups, processed in the software Interface de R pour Multidimensionnelles de Textes
et de Questionneires, through Descending Hierarchical Classification and Similitude Analysis. Results: four classes emerged
from the Descending Hierarchical Classification: “Information needs”; “Information gaps”; “Availability to inform”; “Facilitating
health education practices”. Conclusion and implications for practice: parents considered digital technology combined with
nurses’ availability to inform and explain, as well as provide an empathetic and informal environment as facilitating practices
for health education. These results can support health education nursing interventions for parents at the Neonatal Units using

Sub-shot-noise photon-number correlation in mesoscopic twin-beam of light
We demonstrate sub-shot-noise photon-number correlations in a (temporal)
multimode mesoscopic ( detected photons) twin-beam produced by
ps-pulsed spontaneous non-degenerate parametric downconversion. We have
separately detected the signal and idler distributions of photons collected in
twin coherence areas and found that the variance of the photon-count difference
goes below the shot-noise limit by 3.25 dB. The number of temporal modes
contained in the twin-beam, as well as the size of the twin coherence areas,
depends on the pump intensity. Our scheme is based on spontaneous
downconversion and thus does not suffer from limitations due to the finite gain
of the parametric process. Twin-beams are also used to demonstrate the
conditional preparation of a nonclassical (sub-Poissonian) state.Comment: 5 pages, 5 (low-res) figures, to appear on PR
Degradation characteristics of hydroxyapatite coatings on orthopedic TiAlV in simulated physiological media investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy
This paper concentrates on the degradation characteristics of hydroxyapatite (HA) coatings on orthopaedic Ti-6Al-4V alloy while immersed in Ringer's salt solution, which were investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements were used to in situ characterize the electrochemical behavior of the passivated alloy covered with HA during aging in Ringer's solution. Comparison of the electrochemical data for the coated material with that for the uncoated metal substrate was also performed. The characteristic feature that describes the electrochemical behavior of the coated material is the coexistence of large areas of the coating itself with pores where the substrate is exposed to the aggressive media. The interpretation of results was thus performed in terms of a two-layer model of the film, in which the precipitation of hydrated oxide or phosphate compounds seals the pores left by the ceramic coating. The blocking effect due to salt precipitation inside the pores produces an enhancement of the resistance values, thus effectively diminishing the metal ion release in the system.Collaborative Research Programme (Acción Integrada No. HP1995-0092 and HP1996-0109) between Spain and Portugal
