The use of carrageenan for limiting the mandibular movement in rats : a preliminary experimental study
Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate if the carrageenan may be used for limiting the mandibular movement. Material and Methods: Eighteen adult male Wistar rats were used for the research, 20 µl of carrageenan (4%) was infiltrated in the extra articular region, in front of the condyle to induce fibrosis. The rats were divided into groups according to the time of euthanasia (7, 15 and 30 days). Maximal mouth opening (MMO), mandibular deviation, initial and final weights were recorded and evaluated. After the euthanasia, the specimens were submitted to histological study in order to classify the inflammatory process using scores. Results: The mean differences between initial and final MMO were 1.50 mm, being greatest at the 7 days evaluation and lowest at 30 days, and were not statistically significant at any time. No mandibular deviation was observed at any of the times of evaluation. The histological scores tended to increase with time of evaluation from 7 to 30 days, but without progression of the process. Conclusion: The study model permitted the development of fibrosis in the extra-articular region in the majority of the animals
Protocol of assistance to persons with venous ulcer in primary care: integrative literature review
To perform an integrative literature review to give subsidies to elaborate attendance protocol for people with venous ulcers in primary health care. Method: An integrative review, carried out between August and September 2012, in the virtual health library, pages of Coordination of Improvement of Higher Education Personnel, of Municipal Health secretariat and international guidelines of associations. Based upon the studies it was verified that the categories about structuring the protocol are sociodemographics, anamnesis, risk factors, exams, verification, characteristics and injury care, medications, pain, general care and compression therapy, prevention and referral/counter-referral. Conclusion: The results may subsidize the construction of protocols for people with venous ulcers treated in primary health care supported in the aspects of literature
Content validation of an instrument to assess the knowledge about the measurement of blood pressure
Objective: To validate an instrument for assessment of knowledge of nursing students about the blood pressure measurement. Method: methodological study conducted with 27 judges nurses, teachers of the discipline of semiology and / or semiotics, with at least 1 year of experience in the disciplines, in three stages: literature review for the development of the knowledge questionnaire, submission to the judges; and content validation by the Kappa index, accepting the value > 0,61, and content Validity Index (CVI ) > 0,75. Results: The 12 questions obtained Kappa and CVI within the parameters established for content validity, 7 showed perfect concordance index and 5 required modifications. Conclusion: It was not necessary remove questions of the instrument, which expresses that they have representation and extension about the domain of interest, facilitating the assessment of knowledge
Contextual analysis of the measurement of blood pressure in clinical practice
Objective: to analyze the contextual aspects of blood pressure measurement in clinical practice and understand the factors that determine this phenomenon. Method: Were selected 15 articles in the databases LILACS, MEDLINE and IBECS according with the inclusion criteria: published in Portuguese, Spanish or English, full text available between 2000-2011. For data analysis, used the contextual analysis. Results: In routine care, the blood pressure measurement is not being performed correctly by several professionals. Much of this failures stems from gaps in knowledge about the subject, both in technical aspects, as in anatomical and physiological. The client also interferes in the measure, especially with regard to their emotional state. Conclusion: Despite the auscultatory technique of blood pressure be simple, perceives an inadequacy in its implementation, possibly compromising the values and, consequently, the diagnosis, treatment and control of hypertension
Agronomic, Physiological, and Post-Harvest Aspects of Different Blueberry Cultivars Treated with Silicon
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of foliar application of silicon in different blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) cultivars. The treatments were installed in a factorial design with six replications, and consisted of three different cultivars (Brightwell, Beckblue and Climax) with or without regular application of silicon via foliar, using silicon oxide at 1.5 g L-1. It was evaluated the following plant attributes: leaf area, chlorophyll fluorescence, and phenylalanine ammonia lyase activity, meanwhile the following postharvest attributes were evaluated: fruit number, diameter and weight, yield, pH, content of soluble solids, titratable acidity, contents of phenolic compounds and anthocyanins, and activity of peroxidase. Vegetative development of blueberry plants in response to Si presented higher yield, leaf area, phenylalanine ammonia lyase activity, and higher chlorophyll fluorescence relationships such as maximum photochemical efficiency and PSII potential activity, as well as less stressed plants, especially in cultivars Climax and Brightwell. For post-harvest physicochemical characteristics, silicon foliar application improved fruit weight and diameter for cvs. Beckblue and Climax, and fruit number for cv. Brightwell. All cultivars, in response to silicon application increased the titratable acidity, the levels of phenolic compounds, the level of anthocyanins, whereas peroxidase activity decreased. The performance of the evaluated blueberry cultivars was better through silicon application, with greater performance of vegetative growth, fruit yield, and fruit quality, especially in cultivar Climax, which was the most suitable in terms in of fruit yield in this study. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of foliar application of silicon in different blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) cultivars.
