    Auf der Grundlage der Erweiterung der Untersuchungsbefugnisse, die der EU-Kommisssion erteilt wurden, um die Existenz von Kollusionsvereinbarungen im EU-Rahmen zu bekämpfen, stellt der vorliegende Artikel die Bedingungen vor, unter denen die oberste kompetente EU-Instanz ihre Auβenprüfungen, die seitens der Unternehmer kritisch beäugt werden, durchführen muss. Es wird im Einzelnen der natürliche Widerspruch untersucht, der sich zwischen den Prüfungsabsichten der EU-Kommission und den beiden Grundpostulaten des Rechts auf Verteidigung zwangsläufig ergibt: Dem Berufsgeheimnis und dem Recht auf Aussageverweigerung bzw. der Verweigerung der Selbstbeschuldigung.On the basis of the extension of the faculties assigned to the EU Commission to fight the existence of collusive agreements within the eurozone, the current article shows the requirements in which the power to inspect, seen more sensitively within the business world, must be started up by the European Competition Authority while looking into the natural contradiction from the inspection’s own objectives and the two basic postulates related to the right of defense as are the professional secret and the right to remain silent or against self-incrimination.En base a la prolongación de las facultades de investigación que le han sido proporcionadas a la Comisión Europea para combatir la existencia de acuerdos colusorios en el ámbito comunitario, el presente artículo expone las condiciones en las cuales el poder percibido con mayor sensibilidad desde el terreno empresarial, la inspección, debe ser puesto en marcha por la máxima autoridad comunitaria de competencia, analizando en detalle la contradicción natural que se presenta entre los objetivos propios de la inspección y dos postulados básicos relacionados con el derecho de defensa, como lo son el secreto profesional y el derecho a guardar silencio o no autoinculparse

    Identification and characterization of aspartyl-tRNA synthetase inhibitors against Mycobacterium tuberculosis by an integrated whole-cell target-based approach

    Documento escrito por un elevado número de autores/as, solo se referencia el/la que aparece en primer lugar y los/as autores/as pertenecientes a la UC3M.Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of tuberculosis, has surpassed HIV as the leading cause of death due to an infectious disease worldwide, being responsible for more than 1.5 million deaths in low-income countries. In response to a pandemic threat by drug resistant strains, the tuberculosis research community is searching for new chemical entities with novel mechanisms of action to avoid drug resistance and shorten treatment regimens using combinatorial chemotherapy. Herein, we have identified several novel chemical scaffolds, GSK97C (spiro-oxazolidin-2-one), GSK93A (2-amino-1,3-thiazole, GSK85A and GSK92A (enamides), which target M. tuberculosis aspartyl-tRNA synthetase (Mt-AspRS), an essential component of the protein synthesis machinery of tuberculosis, using a whole-cell target-based screening strategy against a genetically modified Mycobacterium bovis BCG strain. We also provide further evidence of protein inhibition and inhibitor profiling through a classical aminoacylation reaction and a tRNA-independent assay, respectively. Altogether, our results have identified a number of hit new molecules with novel mechanism of action for further development through medicinal chemistry as hits and leads

    A tolerable candle: the low-ν\nu method with LHC neutrinos

    The Forward Physics Facility (FPF) plans to use neutrinos produced at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) to make a variety of measurements at previously unexplored TeV energies. Its primary goals include precision measurements of the neutrino cross section and using the measured neutrino flux both to uncover information about far-forward hadron production and to search for various beyond standard model scenarios. However, these goals have the potential to conflict: extracting information about the flux or cross section relies upon an assumption about the other. In this manuscript, we demonstrate that the FPF can use the low-ν\nu method -- a technique for constraining the flux shape by isolating neutrino interactions with low energy transfer to the nucleus -- to break this degeneracy. We show that the low-ν\nu method is effective for extracting the νμ\nu_{\mu} flux shape, in a model-independent way. We discuss its application for extracting the νˉμ\bar{\nu}_{\mu} flux shape, but find that this is significantly more model dependent. Finally, we explore the precision to which the νμ\nu_{\mu} flux shape could be constrained at the FPF, for a variety of proposed detector options. We find that the precision would be sufficient to discriminate between various realistic flux models

    Contabilidad Ambiental: enfoque de publicaciones en Colombia (2009-2012)

    La contabilidad tradicional enfocada a los asuntos económicos determinados por el mercado, es insuficiente para rendir cuentas de los impactos de la gestión de la organización sobre la riqueza ambiental y social. El estudio de las publicaciones científicas colombianas (2009-2012) refleja la tendencia de las investigaciones alternativas en contabilidad, por desarrollar modelos contables complementarios del financiero, que amplíe y mejore la información que las entidades presentan como evaluación de la gestión integral de las mismas. Los documentos analizados tienen grandes coincidencias al diagnosticar la crisis que ha generado en los sistemas socio-ambientales el modelo económico de mercado, al igual que señalan la necesidad de reorientar la contabilidad en su componente teórico y aplicarlo hacia nuevas formas de capturar, procesar y presentar información contable en la cual se incluya la variable naturaleza y sociedad. Los documentos analizados anticipan modelos y sistemas contables acordes al propósito planetario de un desarrollo sostenible generalizado, los cuales superarán la valoración monetaria, la partida doble, el reconocimiento únicamente de hechos económicos y la presentación exclusiva de estados financieros, todo ello para dar paso a una contabilidad para la sostenibilidad con amplio espectro de actuación en el cual se incluyen además de la económica, las dimensiones ambiental y social

    Determining the Predictors for Cardiac Etiology on Syncope Patients in the ED

    Introduction: Syncope remains one of the most challenging presentations to the ED physician as well as the Internist. The goal of this study is to determine which combination of variables during the clinical encounter at bed side can better predict among all patients presenting to the ED with syncope who is likely to have a cardiac diagnosis and who is not. Methods: A retrospective chart review was done on a random sample of cases presenting to the emergency department of a Miami hospital between 2014 and 2016. Results: The final regression model showed male patients being 3 times more likely to have a cardiac final diagnosis for syncope than women. There is a 5% increased chance of having a cardiac etiology per year increment between these groups. Palpitations occurring with the event and a personal history of coronary artery disease multiplied the odds of a cardiac diagnosis 24.43 times and 3.63 times respectively. Bradycardia or a prolonged QRS segment (\u3e120ms) multiplied the odds of a cardiac diagnosis by 4.24 times and 5.06 times respectively. Valvular stenosis on cardiac echography multiplied the odds of having a cardiac diagnosis by a factor of 7.35. ROC curve was calculated to be 0.901. Creating a model excluding the result of the cardiac echography yielded a ROC curve with an area under the curve of 0.895. Conclusion: Syncope has a variety of etiologies some of which are benign in nature like Orthostasis, others carry a high risk of severe detrimental consequences like cardiac arrhythmias. Thus, it is imperative to differentiate those patients with a potential of having a life-threatening diagnosis from those that do not. The cardiac model developed during this study showed great potential for development of a stratification risk tool for cardiac diagnosis for patients presenting with a syncopal episode to the ED
