Programmable all-optical logic gates based on semiconductor optical amplifiers

In this paper, we discuss the feasibility of optical programmable logic devices based on non-linear processing with semiconductor optical amplifiers. We carried out simulations of the architecture of an all-optical 4-bit Look-up Table, which is the basic logic element of larger-scale programmable devices, and experimental results from a proof-of-concept setup using commercially available devices.Experimental work with photonic integrated circuits to assess the feasibility of integration of such architectures is also presented

Integrated all-optical 2-bit decoder based on semiconductor optical amplifiers

n this paper, the architecture of an SOA-based N-bit decoder, with minimum number of SOAs using Cross-Gain Modulation (XGM), is described. A 2-bit decoder is integrated under Multi-Project Wafer (MPW) photonic foundries in indium phosphide (InP) technology. Its output signals are analysed off chip and its performance is evaluated at 10 Gbps with RZ amplitude-modulated signals

Neumomediastino espontáneo en un paciente con COVID-19. Reporte de caso.: Spontaneous pneumomediastinum in patients with COVID-19. Case report.

Introduction: Pneumomediastinum is an infrequent and rare pathology. The typical radiological manifestations in patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia consist of the presence of bilateral pulmonary opacities, of peripheral distribution. In a recent series of patients with COVID-19, it indicates that 1% of patients can develop spontaneous pneumomediastinum as a complication, it is generally benign and it is not yet clear that this may be an indicator of worsening. Clinical Case: This is a 43-year-old male patient who presented a 15-day illness characterized by pharyngeal pain, fever, chest pain and respiratory distress, receiving multiple antiviral and antibiotic treatment schemes without response, for which he attended to Rebagliati Hospital where he was found respiratory failure, hypoxemia and sepsis. His tomography was compatible with ground glass infiltrate, areas of bilateral lung consolidation, and pneumomediastinum. It did not require surgical treatment and it evolved favorably to pneumonia with a decrease in inflammatory markers and remission of pneumomediastinum in tomographic control. Conclusion: This report highlights that in COVID-19 infection the pulmonary complications to take into account are bilateral pneumonia, bacterial coinfection, sepsis and spontaneous pneumomediastinum.Introducción: El neumomediastino es una patología poco frecuente y rara. Las manifestaciones radiológicas típicas en los pacientes en neumonía por SARS-CoV-2 consiste en la presencia de opacidades pulmonares bilaterales, de distribución periférica. En una reciente serie de pacientes con COVID-19 indica que el 1% de los pacientes pueden desarrollar neumomediastino espontáneo como complicación, generalmente es de curso benigno y no se aclara aún que ello puede suponer un indicador de agravamiento. Caso Clínico: Se trata de un paciente varón de 43 años que presentó un tiempo de enfermedad de 15 días caracterizado por dolor faríngeo, fiebre, dolor torácico y dificultad respiratoria, recibiendo múltiples esquemas de tratamiento tanto antiviral y antibióticos sin respuesta, por lo que acudió al Hospital Rebagliati donde se le encontró insuficiencia respiratoria, hipoxemia y sepsis. Su tomografía fue compatible con infiltrado en vidrio deslustrado, áreas de consolidación pulmonar bilateral y neumomediastino. No requirió tratamiento quirúrgico y evolucionó favorablemente a la neumonía con disminución de marcadores inflamatorios y remisión de neumomediastino en control tomográfico. Conclusión: Este reporte resalta que en la infección por COVID-19 las complicaciones pulmonares a tener en cuenta son la neumonía bilateral, coinfección bacteriana, sepsis y neumomediastino espontáneo

An Update in the Use of Antibodies to Treat Glioblastoma Multiforme

Glioblastoma is a deadly brain disease and modest improvement in survival has been made. At initial diagnosis, treatment consists of maximum safe surgical resection, followed by temozolomide and chemoirradiation or adjuvant temozolomide alone. However, these treatments do not improve the prognosis and survival of patients. New treatment strategies are being sought according to the biology of tumors. The epidermal growth factor receptor has been considered as the hallmark in glioma tumors; thereby, some antibodies have been designed to bind to this receptor and block the downstream signaling pathways. Also, it is known that vascularization plays an important role in supplying new vessels to the tumor; therefore, new therapy has been guided to inhibit angiogenic growth factors in order to limit tumor growth. An innovative strategy in the treatment of glial tumors is the use of toxins produced by bacteria, which may be coupled to specific carrier-ligands and used for tumoral targeting. These carrier-ligands provide tumor-selective properties by the recognition of a cell-surface receptor on the tumor cells and promote their binding of the toxin-carrier complex prior to entry into the cell. El Trabajo Fin de Máster del Máster Universitario en Profesorado de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria, Bachillerato, Formación Profesional y Enseñanzas de Idiomas, Artísticas y Deportivas especialidad Física y Química, este pretende ser una recopilación de los aspectos más importantes que a mi juicio han sido de mayor importancia. Así pues el texto quiere ser una reflexión de todo lo experimentado en este curso académico. El Mapa Mental Armónico en la comprensión de textos narrativos en estudiantes universitarios

This article deals with the effect of the Harmonic Mind Maps (HMM) in the comprehension of narrative texts of university students. To achieve this purpose, a quasi-experimental research was carried out within the quantitative approach. From a population of 1500 students belonging to the I Semester of university, a sample of 83 students was taken, and they were divided into two groups: one of control (43) and the other one experimental (40). For the collection of data, adaptations of the PISA Test, 2015 were used. After the application of the HMM, it is concluded that its use positively influences the comprehension of narrative texts.El presente artículo trata sobre el efecto de los Mapas Mentales Armónicos (MMA) en la comprensión de textos narrativos de estudiantes universitarios. Para lograr este propósito se realizó una investigación cuasi-experimental dentro del enfoque cuantitativo. De una población de 1500 alumnos pertenecientes al I Ciclo de una universidad, se tomó una muestra de 83 estudiantes distribuidos en dos grupos: uno de control (43) y otro experimental (40). Para la recolección de datos se utilizó adaptaciones de la Prueba PISA, 2015. Luego de la aplicación de los MMA, se concluye que su uso influencia de manera positiva la comprensión de textos narrativos.

1Gbps full-duplex links for ultra-dense-WDM 6.25GHz frequency slots in optical metro-access networks

1Gbps full-duplex optical links for 6.25GHz ultra dense WDM frequency slots are demonstrated and optimized for cost-effective metro- access networks. The OLT-ONU downlinks are based on 1Gbps Nyquist- DPSK using MZM and single-detector heterodyne reception obtaining a sensitivity of -52dBm. The ONU-OLT uplinks are based on 1Gbps NRZ- DPSK by directly phase modulated DFB and also single-detector heterodyne reception obtaining same sensitivity of -52dBm. The power budget of full-duplex link is 43dB. These proposed links can provide service to 16 (32) users at each 100 (200) GHz WDM channel

Cultura de legalidad pluricultural desde la mirada de los pueblos originarios de México

The aim of this research is to visualize the invisibility problem of the indigenous peoples in Mexico. Within the analysis carried out on indigenous peoples, we identified discrimination issues , inequality issues, governmental ineffectiveness, deterioration of culture and mother tongue, non-observance of the principle of self-determination and the right to be different, social and political exclusion, and thus generating migration, violation of human dignity and the loss of cultural identity. We used the qualitative methodological approach, through interviews, life stories and case studies, having as an alternative solution to the social problem the Culture of Multicultural Legality to achieve social justice. The main outcomes include the Culture of Multicultural Legality within the educational field, the media and government offices.Key word: Native inhabitants, Multiculturalism, Social Justice.La presente investigación tiene por objetivo visualizar la problemática de invisibilidad de los pueblos originarios en México. En el análisis sobre pueblos originarios, se detectó la problemática social de discriminación, desigualdad, ineficacia en las instituciones, desvalorización de la cultura y lengua materna, la inobservancia al principio de autodeterminación, el derecho a la diferencia, exclusión social y política, que genera migración, vulnera la dignidad humana y provoca la pérdida de identidad cultural. El enfoque metodológico empleado fue cualitativo, a través de entrevista, historia de vida y estudio de caso, teniendo como alternativa de solución al problema social la Cultura de Legalidad Pluricultural para logar justicia social.   Los principales resultados, incluir la Cultura de Legalidad Pluricultural en el ámbito educativo, medios de comunicación y en las instituciones.
