    Coupling of Josephson flux-flow oscillators to an external RC load

    We investigate by numerical simulations the behavior of the power dissipated in a resistive load capacitively coupled to a Josephson flux flow oscillator and compare the results to those obtained for a d.c. coupled purely resistive load.     The re-use of propagation trays in nursery greenhouses is one of the main ways in which fusarium wilt is spread in melon crops (Cucumis melo). The causal agent of the disease is the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. melonis. This paper reports that exposing these seed trays to the energy produced by a prototype microwave oven during the commercial production of melon plantlets can prevent the spread of this pathogen with only a very small increase in production costs

    Fluorescent carbon dot–molecular salt hydrogels

    The incorporation of functionalised carbon nanodots within a novel low molecular weight salt hydrogel derived from 5-aminosalicylic acid is reported. The carbon dots result in markedly enhanced gelation properties, while inclusion within the hydrophobic gel results in a dramatic fluorescence enhancement for the carbon nanomaterials. The resulting hybrid CD gels exhibit a useful sensor response for heavy metal ions, particularly Pb2+

    The magnetization reversal of CoCrPt thin films has been examined as a function of thickness using magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) microscopy and first-order reversal curves (FORC) techniques. MOKE images show differentiated magnetization reversal regimes for different film thicknesses: while the magnetic domains in 10-nm-thick CoCrPt film resemble a fractal structure, a labyrinth stripe domain configuration is observed for 20-nm-thick films. Although FORC distributions for both cases show two main features related to irreversible processes (propagation and annihilation fields) separated by a mostly flat region, this method can nonetheless distinguish which magnetization reversal process is active according to the horizontal profile of the first FORC peak, or propagation field. A single-peak FORC profile corresponds to the fractal magnetization reversal, whereas a flat-peak FORC profile corresponds to the labyrinth magnetization reversal

    Technological research methodology to manage organizational change

    Change is a process that is part of the nature of people; however, within organizations, it should be seen as an invention that will generate benefits in the markets. The main objective of this work is to design a technological methodology to manage change from seven administrative models. For this, a bibliographic review was carried out; the method applied was analysis-synthesis; the example technique was used to comment; the support instruments were a standard data collection form and a comparative table to analyze this data vertically and horizontally. The methodology was validated in the research units of a local university. The main results were 1) The change of management within organizations is an invention; 2) administrative models of change are used to manage it; 3) but, to be successful in managing change, the methodology of technological research is required in addition to the administrative process

    Treatment recommendations for psoriatic arthritis

    Objective: To develop comprehensive recommendations for the treatment of the various clinical manifestations of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) based on evidence obtained from a systematic review of the literature and from consensus opinion. Methods: Formal literature reviews of treatment for the most significant discrete clinical manifestations of PsA (skin and nails, peripheral arthritis, axial disease, dactylitis and enthesitis) were performed and published by members of the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA). Treatment recommendations were drafted for each of the clinical manifestations by rheumatologists, dermatologists and PsA patients based on the literature reviews and consensus opinion. The level of agreement for the individual treatment recommendations among GRAPPA members was assessed with an online questionnaire. Results: Treatment recommendations were developed for peripheral arthritis, axial disease, psoriasis, nail disease, dactylitis and enthesitis in the setting of PsA. In rotal, 19 recommendations were drafted, and over 80% agreement was obtained on 16 of them. In addition, a grid that factors disease severity into each of the different disease manifestations was developed to help the clinician with treatment decisions for the individual patient from an evidenced-based perspective. Conclusions: Treatment recommendations for the cardinal physical manifestations of PsA were developed based on a literature review and consensus between rheumatologists and dermatologists. In addition, a grid was established to assist in therapeutic reasoning and decision making for individual patients. It is anticipated that periodic updates will take place using this framework as new data become available
